To wonder why people leave the house in pj's?

Now I'm not being judgemental, I think people can wear whatever the hell they want, but there is something that's been niggling me.

DD attends a nursery located round the back of the local primary school. On our way there I see all the kids being dropped off and by the time I've got her to the nursery, said goodbye and walked back round to the front of the school I see the stragglers coming in late. It's always the same 5 women and they're always in pj's. However, I have noticed something about the pj's, they always look clean and not slept in, I.e no creases. All 5 of them! Since then I have noticed it in other places too, the women that go to the corner shop and Asda etc in their pj's are the same.

So my question is this, do these women actually go to the effort of changing out of their dirty pj's and put fresh pj's on to leave the house? And if so, WHY?!

I've only done it after abdominal surgery (which I think is an exemption). Even when utterly miserable I find throwing day clothes on makes me feel a bit better about myself and if there's a group of them I doubt they all have disabilities that make dressing impossible.

losingmybelt · 15/06/2014 21:39

Just stating facts. I see what I see.
Will repeat .. it is mainly Asda where pj wearing adults are seen.

lanbro · 15/06/2014 21:41

I saw a woman get out of her car at the corner shop the other day, shortie dressing gown, bare legs and bare feet! Unfortunately, pyjamas in the daytime are a common sight round here but that took the biscuit!

scarlettsmummy2 · 15/06/2014 21:42

Totally agree that you see it in asda but not in Waitrose. WHY do you think that is?

In fairness it's mainly our local Tesco with pyjama wearers

Why now, forgot about Tescos.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 15/06/2014 21:59

It's a very common occurrence here. A local primary school had to ask that all children were sent in school clothes as it was becoming commonplace to send them in pjs with uniform in a bag for teacher to sort out Sad

scarlettsmummy2 · 15/06/2014 22:00

It's not just about being snobby- it's being demeaning to people who may well have a lot going on in their lives that lead them to having such low levels of self esteem or self awareness that they choose to go out in their pyjamas. If you drive through a very deprived area you see lots of people in pyjamas/ looking very unkempt. It's not because they are lazy, it's because they have nothing to live for in many cases.

HoneyDragon · 15/06/2014 22:04

I don't have low self esteem. I'm fucking awesome. I'm even awesome in my pjs.
And I've shopped in Waitrose dressed as a nun, when eight months pregnant. Where does that fit on the scale of despair at our social lessers?

losingmybelt · 15/06/2014 22:11

Honeydragon you go girl :)

LiberalLibertine · 15/06/2014 22:12

Grin @ wearing pyjamas= nothing to live for!

MrsWinnibago · 15/06/2014 22:13

God. The women who drop their dc off at my DC school look like they're all off to conquer the world in business suits. There are just a few of us in jeans and trainers...we all feel fat and frumpy beside the business types. Perhaps I'd have better self esteem if there were a few PJ wearers!

kennyp · 15/06/2014 22:14

i;ve been to drop of my daughter at things early with my nightie on and a coat over the top. ditto tesco in the same attire. but it was a fleeting popping out, not an actual outing.

it doesn't bother me to be honest if people do wear pyjamas out.

scarlettsmummy2 · 15/06/2014 22:14

It's not about 'despair', it's about yet more demonising of a vulnerable group for a good old laugh. Oh look at the chavs doing the school run in their pyjamas on the way to asda for some crappy food..... Hilarious.

HoneyDragon · 15/06/2014 22:19

I shop in Asda, I wear pjs in public. Actually I wear what the fuck I want when I want. It's liberating. I don't need sympathy or defending.

You can conquer the world and wear pyjamas.

HoneyDragon · 15/06/2014 22:19

I thought the op asked a fair question too.

scarlettsmummy2 · 15/06/2014 22:20

Some can, many can't.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 15/06/2014 22:23

Yes because Heinz Beans from Waitrose taste much superior to Heinz Beans from ASDA, ASDA ones taste of poor.
