Can I just say I have nothing against them as a whole
But one has started coming around our estate every night between 9pm and 9.30pm and every night it's wakes up 10 month old DS
The chime is so loud and goes on for ages. My husband timed that the van was chiming for half an hour on our estate tonight (not all together 30 second bursts.
I really don't want to be petty but DS is then unsettled all night. Also I miss sleep I have seizures due to epilepsy an I had to have the day off work today. I only went back to work three weeks ago.
Also realise parents of babies have a lack of sleep but knowing what triggers my epilepsy we worked so hard to get DS into a routine while I was on Maternity leave and it seemed to have worked. Until now.
I have looked and after 7pm they are not allowed to sound the chimes by law
Who wants sodding ice cream at that time anyway

ha! I bet it's a Booze Brothers type outfit....

3littlefrogs · 11/06/2014 21:48

You know they aren't selling ice cream don't you?

frames · 11/06/2014 21:52

Think they need some sort of trading licence...but not sure...9pm., is far too late for ice cream!

17leftfeet · 11/06/2014 21:53

Wonder how much he is selling individual fags for?

WorraLiberty · 11/06/2014 21:54

7pm?

I thought they weren't allowed to chime after 9pm?

TitsCrossed · 11/06/2014 21:54

Not selling ice cream I bet you any money you like!

Call non emergency police number, they might be interested.

3littlefrogs · 11/06/2014 21:56

The police probably know.
The vans only give out tickets.
The merchandise is elsewhere.

TitsCrossed · 11/06/2014 21:56

Wonder how much they are selling an eighth for Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/06/2014 21:57

Round our streets they let off a solitary firework and you have to go to them they don't bring it round in a musical van.

Not that I would buy it Hmm

WorraLiberty · 11/06/2014 21:58

Oh you're right, I've just checked and it's 7pm.

Lancashiregal10 · 11/06/2014 21:59

No it's def 7pm the cut off. It had crossed my mind that they might not be selling ice cream
It seems to be kids that are going to him though.
To tell you the truth if it was not for DS waking I would think it was a bit weird but it would not bother me

'Round our streets they let off a solitary firework and you have to go to them they don't bring it round in a musical van.'

What do they do on November 5th?

MilkandCereal · 11/06/2014 22:00

And OP. YANBU.

APlaceInTheWinter · 11/06/2014 22:01

It's not a police matter because it's not a law that governs ice cream chimes - it's a code of practice. If you're sure it's after 7pm then take a note of the registration number and call the local council both the licensing department (who will have provided its license) and the noise abatement officer. tbh I'm not sure if they'll act but at least you'll have tried.

Welshmayhem · 11/06/2014 22:01

Why is everyone so convinced it's not ice cream?

What am I missing out on?

EduCated · 11/06/2014 22:02

When I was a student we had an ice cream van that came round at odd times. We went and bought an ice cream from him once. He looked genuinely confused.

MrsWinnibago · 11/06/2014 22:02

70 they let of a firework !!! Really?

ExitPursuedByABear · 11/06/2014 22:03

If you know the cut off is 7pm then you know you would be justified in reporting them.

What are they selling?

kinkyfuckery · 11/06/2014 22:03

Is it still so loud with the window closed?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/06/2014 22:03

They only do the fireworks on a Saturday Milk .

Maybe before Nov 5th they make people do a two week order Wink

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 11/06/2014 22:04

I remember talking about the ice cream wars with a friend. She was astounded that ice cream could be so profitable that it would lead to fire bombing rival vans!

Was a bit of a lightbulb moment when I suggested they may not have been selling only ice cream

3littlefrogs · 11/06/2014 22:04

It is a well established system for selling certain substances.
Has been for years.
They don't keep anything actually in the van.
Customers pay their money and get a ticket, which they then exchange elsewhere for the goods.

3littlefrogs · 11/06/2014 22:05

Anything except ice cream I meant.

MrsWinnibago · 11/06/2014 22:05

70 where on earth do you live? 19th century China?

APlaceInTheWinter · 11/06/2014 22:07

Welshmayhem I know someone with an ice cream van. It sells . . .wait for it . . . ice cream. Grin

On the later evening run, he sells more milk because people buy it for the morning.

He doesn't sell anything dodgy to small children or adults. Obviously all other MNetters live in hotbeds of illegal activity Hmm
