To go for dinner on my own at 40+5 pregnant?

I'm fed up, grumpy and just want to get out of the house. Not feeling like baby is imminent in the slightest. Just want to go alone and leave DP and DS1 here at home. Thinking of going Westfield Stratford - about 20 mins by car.

Am I mad and irresponsible? Should I shore myself up at home on the off chance that I might go into Labour? Or take my notes and hospital bag and enjoy myself?

So as to not drip feed Westfield is closer to homerton hospital than my house but obviously I wouldn't be able to drive but could find a cab I guess if I had to.

Unless you have a history of incredibly fast labours why the hell not!?

WanderingAway · 11/06/2014 18:09

I would take your bag and notes and go enjoy some you time before the baby comes.

helensburgh · 11/06/2014 18:10

Yes go or it.

ch1a · 11/06/2014 18:13

I think I love you ladies for those answers. DS1 was 38 hours but an induction at term due to pre eclampsia so I don't have that much to go on but I think its safe to say I won't be crazy fast.

The irresponsible side of me really wants to tempt fate anyway and hope doing inconvenient things brings labour on.

Definitely do it if you feel up to it.

If, however, you want to go out because you're feeling wierd, angsty, like you need to pace about... The maybe rethink! Grin

evertonmint · 11/06/2014 18:14

I'm 39+6 with DC3. I've found with all 3 pregnancies that taking my notes is a cast iron guarantee that I won't go into labour! Enjoy your dinner :)

ch1a · 11/06/2014 18:15

Right I'm going! Before anyone tells me iabu. I think 3 out of 3 yanbus is a decent sample size!

OP posts:
ch1a · 11/06/2014 18:16

Okay 4.5/5 yanbu is still good enough for me. Car keys in hand now.

I would have done. Definitely.

Have fun!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/06/2014 18:19

Go! You'll be fine and it sounds like you need some time away from the house.

Order whatever you fancy off the menu and take as long as you want to.

123rd · 11/06/2014 18:22

Go and enjoy the peace and quiet. Have a starter, main and a dessert WinkWink make sure you really string it out too.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/06/2014 18:23

Go. Enjoy yourself!!

BlackeyedSusan · 11/06/2014 18:25

yabu.

posting on here that is. you should be off and running waddling now.

enjoy your meal and bit of freedom.

BrokenToeOuch · 11/06/2014 18:27

Definitely go, hopefully you'll have a little browse round the shops too, picking up something for yourself of course. Yes to 3 courses, hope you've taken you're kindle/book!
So jealous, its like feeding time at the zoo in my house! Older dc have both got friends round, small ds is riled because his sisters are ignoring him for a change and dp won't be back from work until about 9 :(

CormoranStrike · 11/06/2014 18:28

I did, it was fine. Went to a colleagues leaving dinner and turned up first at the restaurant, so the subject of much small talk from the staff.

Their faces when the answer to when are you due was "six days ago" was a picture Grin

MintyChops · 11/06/2014 18:29

Definitely go, take your notes and enjoy yourself! Let us know if it's a good way to bring on labour..

ElizabethLemon · 11/06/2014 18:31

Yabu!

But only because I've just got home from Westfield and it was hell!

No you aren't bu. Enjoy your dinner and keep your mobile handy.

LynetteScavo · 11/06/2014 18:31

Just go! If you can still walk you are doing well!

You probably have another 5 days left before you go into labour anyway

JulietBravoJuliet · 11/06/2014 18:44

Go for it! I was walking around a photography exhibition at the NEC at 40+7 as I was fed up of being pregnant and was trying to tempt fate by being as far as possible away from home it didn't bloody work and I was induced at 40+12

The look on the woman's face when we were buying tickets, and she asked when I was due, was priceless though Grin

lifehasafunnywayofhelpinguout · 11/06/2014 19:28

Well done to you for having the energy. I couldn't put one foot infront or the other by the time I was 7 months (never mind 9+ months) Mind you I was the size of a house at 3 months.

It would be interesting if on the news tommorow it says women gives birth in restaurant.

Good luck with your impending arrival. xx

ch1a · 11/06/2014 19:43

Just had the most delicious Thai calamari, lamb salad and guava Collins. Now slowly wandering round the shops. Thanks everyone for telling me I'm not irresponsible by coming out...it was definitely the best call.

Also for a first aibu I'm delighted to have been found to be very reasonable. Phew.

:o

fuzzpig · 11/06/2014 19:50

Oh no way is that BU :o

I didn't go overdue with DD (was induced) but I REALLY enjoyed a day in London by myself close to my due date, which included lunch in an old haunt, just me and my book.

I may have also stopped at Ben and Jerry's at Leicester square Wink

ch1a · 11/06/2014 20:01

There is a frozen yoghurt place downstairs! Here I come Grin

Go for a foot and hand massage. Apparently they can induce labour, if they hit the right pressure points. Good luck!
