To think some dog owners think they own the bloody park?

Was just on way to the park with kids, saw a group of ladies standing having a chit chat quite loudly with about four dogs in tow, two huge ones and a couple of smaller ones. They were blocking the corner path but there was plenty of room in the middle of them. A young woman with a double buggy and toddler holding her hand walked through the middle, cue a load of horrible tutting and loud remarks about how rude it was/how children won't learn manners from parents etc. The woman looked a bit miffed but carried on walking. It just seemed so unnecessary, the woman's toddler looked like she was playing up and wanted to go near the dogs...which wouldn't always be safe, so she walked quickly through. No need for the loud rude comments from them IMO.

seems to happen lots in my local area, dog walkers blocking paths or letting the dogs all over forbidden parkland. Dogs all over seats at local outside cafés. Anyone have this problem where they live at all?

Yes. They are all friendly doggies MissThang ... it's the stupid twats of people who leave their children unattended to pull their tails, poke their eyes and stick fingers up their arses who are idiots.

Was it rude of them to be blocking the pathway? Of course!
Was it rude of them to slag this woman off? Yes!
Was it rude of her not to say excuse me? Yes!

Does that having ANYTHING at all to do with their being dogs? Nope. Not one tiny bit.

Canidae · 09/06/2014 13:24

How does inconsiderate people who happen to own dogs become all dogs eat children within a few posts?

I live near a school and if I am walking my dogs at certain times have to dodge numerous buggys and scooters. I will always move my dogs on the grass verge for the kids coming past but get parents with buggys blocking the pavement while chatting. Most will move the buggy to one side but some don't. I either have to ask them to move or walk in the road.

Anyone can be a dick, dog or no dog.

MissThang · 09/06/2014 13:26

MrsMop...with all due respect, not all doggies are friendly. And not all doggies can be trained after things like a traumatic past. And not all breeds are child friendly. Then you can add negligence of owners...which all contributes equally to a fatal attack on a child or baby.

And actually it's better to stick to the actual thread title tbh. Some dog owners do feel they and their animals come before other humans and infants. There's another thread about this crap today, and it's a real issue.

Can you please acknowledge negligence of oarebts onto here please! Parents who don't teach their children any respect for any body or any thing and have never been taught how to pet a dog or stay away from them. Hysteria from parents on sight of a dog the other side of the field , on a leash, and not remotely interested in you, does not help your children either.

Respect both ways!!

Summerbreezing · 09/06/2014 13:31

I know there's inconsiderate people everywhere, but as this thread is about dog owners I agree with the OP that some of them show no consideration whatsoever for other people, and the park is one of the worst places for seeing this.
There's a park near me with a large area especially sectioned off so dogs can be let off the lead and run around. But you will still see dog owners allowing their pets to run around on the areas where children are playing, games of football are going on or people are just trying to have a stroll without strange dogs running up to them.

OwlCapone · 09/06/2014 13:37

I was simply making a point that the other view of the scenario is that the woman was rude.

The fact that the people chatting were dog owners is totally irrelevant by the way.

And actually it's better to stick to the actual thread title tbh. Some dog owners do feel they and their animals come before other humans and infants.

And some blond people think they come before other humans and infants.

And some parents think their precious child comes before all other humans.

And some dogs think they come before all humans.

OwlCapone · 09/06/2014 13:37

And all cats think they come before humans.

OwlCapone · 09/06/2014 13:38

Anyway, this was clearly a thread meant for Dog Haters to vent their spleen, however irrational.

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/06/2014 13:39

And all cats think they come before humans

Ah but they do :o

Cats are royalty

OwlCapone · 09/06/2014 13:39

Fuck that. The dog owners should be apologising for not having any consideration. If people are blocking a path they should get the fuck out of the way, not have to be beseeched to do so.

Would you have said that had the people been elderly ladies with wicker shopping trolleys? Or middle class mothers with takeaway lattes? Or parents with small children?

LtEveDallas · 09/06/2014 13:39

And not all breeds are child friendly

DEED not BREED. There is no such thing as an unfriendly breed.

And actually it's better to stick to the actual thread title tbh

OK, if you prefer. No I've never met a single person, dog owner or not, that thinks they own the park they are walking in. That would be really very stupid wouldn't it?

MeerkatTargaryen · 09/06/2014 13:39

Wow. It was all going so well until dogs attacking children came into it.

You do need to teach your children how to behave around pets, especially if you don't have any. If your child goes running up to a dog, pulling on its ears and tail what will happen? Well the dog won't like it. And you, not knowing the dog from adam won't know how that dog will react to a) having a child suddenly running up to it and b) being pulled about.

Yes there are shit owners (I have a staffy so am all too aware of the effects shit owners have on the reputation of my gorgeous dog) but most of us are nice and considerate. Grin

MeerkatTargaryen · 09/06/2014 13:42

If you met the queen walking through a Royal park would you say the same thing Wink

christinarossetti · 09/06/2014 13:43

Ah, a dogs in park thread. Haven't had one for a while.

OwlCapone - I don't agree that it's 'irrational' to vent spleen about being bitten by a dog in the park. It hurt and frightened me, and made me furious with the 'oh, he's ever so friendly' owner.

"Oh, I don't know why he bit you - he's been so much better lately", the latest friend of mine to be bitten was told by the owner immediately afterwards.

Also spleen worthy imvho.

fledermaus · 09/06/2014 13:44

The dog owners that piss me off are the ones you seem to think people sitting down in a park, especially if they have food, want their dogs running/jumping/slobbering all over them.

Summerbreezing · 09/06/2014 13:45

"And some blond people think they come before other humans and infants.

And some parents think their precious child comes before all other humans."

No one's arguing with that. Some of us are just saying that some dog owners are inconsiderate when using the park and having a rant about it.

Impatientismymiddlename · 09/06/2014 13:52

I am in the minority because I think that some dogs are a bloody nuisance in parks.
I would like to be able to go for a run in my local park without dogs chasing me and barking directly at me. I understand that they probably just want to play, but I just want them to fuck off and leave me to run in peace.
I also hate the people who think it's okay for their dog to jump up on me and get irate when I tell them to remove their dog from my leg.
I also hate the fact that I am unable to go and play rounders in the park with my kids because we can't play for more than 30 seconds at a time without some dog running off with the ball.

cindydog · 09/06/2014 14:01

What about the drivers who park their friggin cars on the footpath, so buggies ,wheelchair users ,kids, dogwalkers have to walk out into the road. THICK EEJITS.

""And actually it's better to stick to the actual thread title tbh. Some dog owners do feel they and their animals come before other humans and infants. There's another thread about this crap today, and it's a real issue.""

Fair point. I actually DO think that my dog comes before some other humans. If they are a crap enough parent to NOT HAVE CONTROL OF THEIR CHILD and let it go barrelling over to strangers, animals etc ... then why should I not?

My dog once saved a child in the park. We heard a blood curdling scream and followed the noise ... it led us to a young boy who was being dragged through the bushes by a man with a knife ... my dog (Rottweiler bitch - very well behaved - used to go into schools and hospitals to work with children prior to this incident) started barking and lunged for the mans leg .. he let go of the boy and she jumped in between them protecting the little boy and snapping at the mans hand whenever he moved. One of her front legs even got cut in the commotion. The man ran away when he saw me emerge from the bushes following her. We called the police immediately, and then went straight to the busiest place we could find to wait for assistance. When the police arrived we set about finding the little boys mother. She was still in the park café ... she hadn't even noticed he was missing - she freely admitted than she let him run around and wasn't paying proper attention. From us hearing him scream to finding her was nearly 20 minutes. 20 minutes and you don't notice your child is missing?

So yeah I DO think my dog comes before some people because some people are pathetic, USELESS beings who shouldn't be allowed to have children. And following on from that - why should my dog suffer or die because you haven't taught your dog not to shout in a dogs face etc.

Fair enough - this is one in a million ... but that's the whole point isn't it. You can't judge all dog owners and whinge about how unfair it is that dogs roam around the park just because one or two are useless pricks. It's the people at fault - not the dogs. NO DOG is born a menace.

Personally - when we're at the park unless we are inside the children's play area my toddler is on reigns and a buggy board and my older children know from having a dog that you don't run up to other peoples animals and that if they approach you - don't panic or make quick moves - you tell the dog to sit! and shout the owner.

D0oinMeCleanin · 09/06/2014 14:28

As a dog owner I find non dog owning parents to be far more unpleasent and entitled than any dog owner I've met, particularly when I am with my dogs.

Please do not allow your children to follow me and my dogs, I won't slow down or stop so you can catch up. I will keep walking, if I am in a really nice mood I might suggest to your child that they wait for you at the crossing instead of continuing to follow me across the road. I do not want to talk to your children. My dogs do not want your children to talk to them.

Also, no, I will not put my dogs back on the lead in the off lead section of the park so that your PFB can practise his football skills. There is an entire park for children, us dog walkers get only a small section, I really don't care if the trees make excellent goal posts and yes, my terrier is likely to chase the ball, he's a terrier, that's why I only let him off in lead in certain areas, such as the dog section of the rather large park.

Ditto BBQs on the dog friendly part of the beach. I'm afraid my dogs probably will chase each other past your BBQ and kick sand in your hotdogs, but you have an entire, dog free beach just 10 minutes that way.

On the whole 99% of people, both dog owning and none are tolerant and peaceable, but when I do have an issue, 9 times out of 10 it is with a parent not a fellow dog walker and it happens in an area that my dog has every right to be in, during summer. Bring on the winter I say, then I can begin to enjoy my peaceful walks again, without the hassle of having to make sure I don't upset PFB parents.

sigh
It is generally accepted that a proportion of the population will be twats.

In addition to being a twat, they may also be the owner of a dog/bike/car/child/loud stereo/drill
Upon getting those things, they didn't miraculously stop being twats, so will carry on acting like a twat, now with the addition of something else which when used selfishly, is annoying to other people.

It has probably been this way since early man invented the wheel and then left it parked outside his neighbours cave.

The only thing surprising is the amount of people on here who are surprised about it.

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/06/2014 14:49

Extra treats that day!!! mrsmop

Thank god you had your lovely dog with you!
