To think everyone should be tired, sunburnt having been to the open farm Sunday today?

Because we are! We had a great day holding baby animals and ferrets, donkey rides and archery and lots and lots of exciting things for the children to do.

Open Farm Sunday happens every year in June and is a great time for families to visit the farm!

Well, I went to one at a new dairy. It was really interesting when a cow went into a difficult labour. Luckily there was a local vet visiting who managed to save the cow, but sadly not the calf. His son was there too - very fit looking.

LittleMisslikestobebythesea · 08/06/2014 20:42

I'm tired after being awake since 5am with backache, and a very long and stressful day in work, no sunburn though.

Wadingthroughsoup · 08/06/2014 20:42

We haven't been to a farm today, but we have been to farms twice in the last month so feel a bit farmed-out. Been to a party and then out for dinner with the ILs instead.

Mrs Cripps- my dad died of melanoma last year. My sympathies to you on your loss.

MrsCripps · 08/06/2014 20:43

HaroldLloyd · 08/06/2014 20:43

JuniperTisane · 08/06/2014 20:43

MrsCripps · 08/06/2014 20:46

Im sorry - not meaning to have a go .
Please cover your Dc up - don't risk it.

teaandthorazine · 08/06/2014 20:47

Ummm, ok. For one thing, my post clearly crossed with yours so, you know, no need for the fuck off.

I'm sorry you lost someone you loved.

bucketofbathtoys · 08/06/2014 20:48

We found out last minute and went to a local one - brill time had by all - in the sun too Grin

TeenAndTween · 08/06/2014 20:51

We had to leave ours early to go to watch the local cricket competition. The fit looking vet's son was there too - and won!
Mind you, not sure I was too keen on the dairy - the cows were mainly indoors.

chocolatemademefat · 08/06/2014 20:51

WhispersOfWickedness · 08/06/2014 20:52

I was covered in Factor 50, the same as my toddler. He is unscathed, I have a red nose (summer colds are unpleasant enough without having to remember to reapply sunscreen every time you blow your nose...)

On the up side, I had an excellent slice of WI lemon cake and made a silage bale, and my toddler almost knocked out a rather bossy member of the local Young Farmers Association when she was frolicking around in Hunters and hot pants too close to the welly wanging...

FinDeSemaine · 08/06/2014 21:11

We are not sunburnt. I offered to take DD to a farm and she chose going to the pottery café instead so we went there and painted pottery sedately while I looked longingly at the sunshine.

TeenAndTween · 08/06/2014 21:16

There was another open farm event going on just down the road which we almost went to. It's sad really, I heard someone saying they are going to build a road right through it ......

lastnightIwenttoManderley · 08/06/2014 21:20

Teen Surely there must be an alternative route...maybe you should have a public meeting to explore the options. Wink

TeenAndTween · 08/06/2014 21:24

lastnight I think there was one, but I missed it. Sad A neighbour went and brought home a map but I couldn't make head nor tail of it, it was so badly printed.

was beginning to think AIBU was full of Philistines

lastnightIwenttoManderley · 08/06/2014 21:34

teen don't worry too much, if things go to pot over here we can all just bugger off to canada.

TeenAndTween · 08/06/2014 21:37

last Grin

HippyPottyMouth · 08/06/2014 21:55

We went to a farm. A cow licked my elbow and another cow shat, splatterily, on the way out of the milking parlour, splattering me, DH and DD. I'll listen to it on the Archers next year. At least I've got a better mental image of Brookfield now.

windchime · 08/06/2014 22:14

YABU sunburn is very bad.

Idontseeanyicegiants · 08/06/2014 22:15

Went to see my IL's so technically yes I did do open farm Sunday Grin
Spent most of the day gardening though so caught the sun a bit.

ICanHearYou · 08/06/2014 23:27

Well the children are fast asleep in bed, they are fine, not burnt to a crisp or anything like that though I probably should have been more careful with my shoulders

A hog roast would have been brilliant, they were serving sausages that they had made from the pigs they rear so no reason not to have a hog roast. Part of the point of OFS is to get people to understand where their food comes from, so having a nice tasty cooking pig in the same place as delicious little weenie piglets is kind of the point

they are yummy when they are little and then they get too big so you whack em in the oven and they are yummy again!

No, Princess, we have suncream, we just don't see it because it's hidden behind the toothpaste we Brits never use.

Shock

I knew it! Grin Wink
