to think I'm not the only person who's happy to bathe rather than shower?

I'm considering renting out the spare room to help with the bills.

My friend reckons that it will be totally impossible to rent the room because we only have a (newly fitted, nice) bath with a rubbish shower attachment, not a proper shower. I recognise that many people prefer showers, and that if we had one, it would mean more people would be interested in the room, but I can't be the only one who prefers baths surely? Not to the point of making the room unrentable anyway? I don't need loads of people to rent it, only one!

He also reckons no one wants to live with a family. But we've rented rooms to students many, many times in the past (in old house with shower) He's talking mince, isn't he?

AIBU to expect a spare room in a family house with no shower to be perfectly rentable to a lodger (probably a student)?

But you do have a shower - it's just in the bath. (And you can easily refit the attachment). Anyone who won't take a shower because it's in a bath rather than a separate cubicle is barking.

I prefer baths for relaxation, showers for hair washing.

Can't you just put in a shower over the bath if it means renting the room out more easily? They're not expensive.

I dislike baths, apart from when I'm poorly or aching for some reason.

I mean a proper wall mounted shower rather than an attachment.

I much prefer baths, and I've seen many homes with shower attachments instead of separate showers. Some home improvement stores sell fittings to hang the shower attachment on the wall higher up so it can be used just like a regular shower; then you just get a shower curtain with an adjustable bar to hold it up and you are ready to go. They can be quite nice....

Oh I see... if you only have an attachment and not a wall mounted shower then I would suggest fitting one. It wouldn't bother me, but I suspect it is likely to make it much harder to let the room. We seem to be a shower society these days.

I'm looking to rent (unsuccessfully atm but that's a whole other thread) and lack of a shower would put me off.

I work so I need s shower in the morning - there's no time for a bath.

Baths are for relaxing, showers are getting clean IMO.

For clarity - it doesn't have to be a proper stand-alone unit - a shower mounted over the bath would do (but not just one of those hoses that attaches to the taps - that doesn't count)

i wouldn't consider it for myself, or my children when they were students and living with home stay families as foreign students. I would have expected an en-suite bathroom for their personal use and a separate stand alone shower would have been a must.

Plenty of people would be fine with that, OP.
I imagine you'd get to charge more with en suite etc., is only difference.
You can't rent to students in our area without loads of safety certificates.

You adapt. We only had a bath for a couple of years. I still bathed in the morning; it was fine. I do prefer having a shower though.

I agree with PP I'm afraid. I'm sure there are people who would prefer to bathe than shower, but I suspect they are in the minority. I personally wouldn't rent a room with no shower. Sorry. X x x

We only have a bath in our en suite - installed by us. TBH, years ago, I would normally have showered, but when I moved in with DH (Then DP) he didn't have a shower, and I've rarely used one since.

There may be some weirdos people who wouldn't accept a bathroom without a shower cubicle, but given there's a shower over the bath, I think it will be fine for most.

I would, I never shower I hate it, I have a bath every evening and then wash my hair with the shower head over the bath in the morning

I would just need the shower attachment for hair washing reasons

I'm with Lauren, I never have showers, I hate, loathe and detest them, I use my shower head over the bath for washing my hair, but that's it.

I love my baths, and in the four years I've had a wall mounted shower over the bath, I've never had one, only used it to wash my hair.

So I'd rent your room OP

I prefer a bath. I don't think not having a shower will put someone off renting a room from you.

Do you mean it's just a bath with one of those long rubber attachments you fix to the bath taps? Or is it an actual shower that is fixed to the wall over the bath?

No need at all for a separate shower cubicle, showers where you stand over the bath are fine and won't be a problem for renting (we rent out properties and it's never been an issue!), but a rubber attachment isn't really good enough these days.

I much prefer baths - puts me right off a house if they don't have a bath.
Anyway, you do have a shower.
I think knowing if people want to rent from a family is a completely different question - I guess there are some people who might.

We had a shower fitted last year, before that we only had a bath and I managed to bath every morning for 10 years. Plenty of time to run a bath and bathe.

I hate showers, it does something weird to my hair, it goes really knotty.
