I can't seem to stop - before a week after a week basically every time I go into the bathroom I HAVE to have a look!

Is it just me?

Once a week on a Friday before the gin filled weekend, obv
If I weighed myself as often as you I'd be concerned tbh as not sure it's all together normal...sorry.

I weigh most days, at the start of the day - although I have been known to weigh myself, then go to the loo and weigh again...

I was weighed about 4 times when I was pregnant but apart from that I seriously haven't weighed myself for many, many years. We don't even own scales.

I used to do (about 30 years ago when I was a teenager, and paranoid about my weight). I don't any more - in fact I have no idea where my scales are - the last time I was weighed was at my annual health check at work. I weighed the same as I did 30 years ago

I did this for a while as a teenager, and it's definitely not healthy.

Get rid of your scales?

Used to years ago r at least everyday. Don't have a set in the house now. Can tell where I am by how my jeans feel.

My friend had anorexia it started with constant weighing herself. She had to go in a clinic for a year to recover where scales were banned.

Yes I have scales in the house.

ah me too

but am stopping it, mine is just an anxiety thing but to an interested observer it could look like some sort of mental disorder and it is pissing everyone off because they have to cope with my howls of despair etc

No, the batteries went in our scales about 4 years ago. But even when they worked I hardly ever went on them.

I only weighed myself regularly at uni when I was in the throes of an eating disorder and stupidly thin.

Now I am slim size 12 and haven't weighed myself for about three years, prob not since I was about to have my last baby.

I would get rid of the scales if I were you. Best way of weight management I've found is stop thinking about it and eat what you feel like.

HahaI weigh myself on different scales too, I go into Boots at least once a week! So getting rid of home scales wouldn't work and besides it would make me anxious. I'm more likely to cut right back on food if there aren't any scales as I always massively exaggerate in my own mind how much I might put on after eating something I shouldn't like now Blush

I used to when I had an eating disorder....

I never weigh myself now & I never will because for me it's a total trigger to go back to past behaviours, I go by how my clothes fit instead

No, but I did when I had an Eating Disorder.

I used to but I was unwell at the time.

I don't own scales now for that reason.

Yup op, I used weigh myself at different places too. My own scales, at friends houses, the gym, Boots. I had an eating disorder.

Yes, it is unhealthy.
Everybody's weight fluctuates a little and that's normal and not of any consequence at all.

The kind of weight differences you might see between before/after seeing or early in the morning/evening are not visible. If that is something you worry about you are at risk of an unhealthy relationship with your body/shape.

We own scales, mainly to make sure we don't breech the luggage allowance on Ryanair Grin.

When you're trying to shed the pounds it's itchingly tempting to hop on the scales everyday. But in my experience it's the road to ruin as if the scales don't tell you what you want or expect to see it can send you marching straight to the biscuit tin in annoyance. 'I'll just scoff these choc chip cookies, that'll show that pesky scales'.

I also think it's not the best idea to never weigh yourself. There can be a 'head in the sand' element at play there.

I don't have scales in the house and only know my weight when weighed for medical purposes, eg pregnancy. I have worn the same size 10 clothes all my adult life. I eat fairly healthily and exercise regularly. Weight in itself is not an issue for me, being healthy is

I weigh myself, just don't have scales in my house.

I agree squoosh, best to find a happy medium if at all possible.

As you know from having a wee, weight isn't really indicative of much.

You would be better of measuring yourself. That's far more reliable.

Also, if you're bloated you may look "fat" but not weight a lot more.

It doesn't sound like a healthy mindset at all.

No - once a week or fortnight, as I like to keep an eye on things.

Why would you weigh yourself several times a day; the reading is bound to disappoint? When I do weigh myself, it's on the way into the shower, first thing in the morning, naked, pre-eating.

Any weighing I would do after that, would inevitably be heavier than that naked, pre-eating weight. So, no, I have no incentive to do it.

Yep, DH threw the scale in storage because I kept weighing and stressing about it. Been much happier after the initial outrage ever since.

Report
BertieBotts · 07/06/2014 05:41

I don't own any scales.

I don't think it's a problem if you're just curious but you say it makes you feel "safe" to be under a certain weight which would worry me.
