To start a new term at the Chalet School?

Happy for this to be moved to Chat if posters agree but thought I'd start it here as this is where we've all been loitering without permission when we should be doing our housework homework.

So welcome to a new term everyone. Cases upstairs to the dormitories, form lists on the notice board. And you'll all be pleased to hear that even though we've moved to a different location, Joey has tracked us - -down moved in next door, so we'll still be seeing too much-- plenty of her Smile

Robin - Maybe Grace Kelly for Wanda (the loveliest girl ever to grace the CS, as we are reminded ad nauseam).

Scarlett Johanssen for Marie?

I always picture the Solid Lump of Comfort looking rather like Steve McQueen. Which is weird, because SM is yum, and the Solid Lump is distinctly unsexy.

How about Jane horricks as Rosalie Dene

I still see Helena as too short and beautiful for Joey! Joey is tall, skinny, pale and plain.

Oh what about, although she's not plain, that one out of noting hill in the wheelchair, also in the our friends in the north and Payton place. ( can't spell). She's tall, dark and skinny.

I see amy Adams as Margot as she can do a spiteful face when asked.

Ooohhhh what about then grace out of will and grace for Joey.

I will bend on all except Anna as dawn French.

You are right of course Happy Helena is too short for Joey but she gives good maniacal madness.

Do you mean Gina McKee? I luffs her.

Talking of Notting Hill, can we find a part for Tim McInnerny? I luffs him too.

I always picture Louise Brooks as Joey.

Not Bonnie Wright as Len, she's far too sandy-haired and plain.

Judi Dench as Matey?

I think my Chaletians are all much much too young. My age-guesstimates are as good as EBD's

I sold all my CS hardbacks during a time of poverty a few years ago but in one there was a German girl called Getrud. I think it might have been Exile- they were on one of the Channel Islands.

What happened to Getrud? She was a school girl spy. Was she ever heard of again after that book?

My favourite was a very early one with a lovely Christmas setting.

Gertrud is in Goes To It, I think. She ends up shipwrecked or something but is saved by the English ship (?), sees the errors of her ways and tries to stop being a Nazi. However I don't remember her managing to track down her mother? Maybe that happens in a subsequent book or maybe I missed it - it feels a bit tricky to conclude her story without that part resolved, though I'm sure it's also the kind of thing which often did go unresolved during the war.

Gertrud is in Exile. She is reunited with her mother eventually but doesn't return to the School.

Hello! If you are still the CS library pree, I would be hugely grateful for the key to the library. I’m currently reading through the old threads and finding them as much of a tonic as a visit from Joey would be. My email address is [email protected]

Thank you!

Dh read some of them just after we'd got married. I've never seen him laugh so much at a book.

DH grew up reading them (older sisters). He says he always expected the Robin’s head to start spinning around like the demonic child in The Exorcist. Probably while singing Joey back from the gates of death with her uncanny rendition of ‘The Red Sarafan’.
