To start a new term at the Chalet School?

1000 replies

Vintagejazz · 06/06/2014 14:23

Happy for this to be moved to Chat if posters agree but thought I'd start it here as this is where we've all been loitering without permission when we should be doing our housework homework.

So welcome to a new term everyone. Cases upstairs to the dormitories, form lists on the notice board. And you'll all be pleased to hear that even though we've moved to a different location, Joey has tracked us - -down moved in next door, so we'll still be seeing too much-- plenty of her Smile

could some one point me at the drop box/drive please?

Stokey · 16/06/2014 16:21

Thanks Robin and Toni

Will try and work it out tonight while DH is watching yet more football attending to a patient at Sonapple.

JoeyMaynardsghost · 16/06/2014 17:07

Stupid me forgot there would be football tonight which means I can read more CS without being mithered to find something on tv to watch. Except I will be nudged to "watch this" every time they replay a goal/missed goal/penalty/choreographed fall but hey I can live with that.

Anna must always work - didn't she get up at dawn to cut lettuce once?

TheObligatoryNewGirl · 16/06/2014 17:23

Fellow Chaletians, there's someone toying with calling her DD Josephine: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/2107927-Which-is-your-favourite-out-of-these-names?pg=2 Let's envade en masse and encourage her, so that her DD can become a true Chalet Girl.

SilverShadows · 16/06/2014 17:55

I've uploaded my PDFs, and will upload the mobi's tomorrow if I can. Nothing new to what's already there sadly, but might help others open files on different devices.

Now, I've just finished Goes To It, and then started Highland Twins. In the first chapter EBD references Margot almost dying of bronchitis, and Joey interfering helping when Elazabeth and Betty fall out. Plus everyone seems to have taken exams and Robin is a part timer at the school.
Have I missed another book?

RobinHumphries · 16/06/2014 18:18

I resent being called a part timer. I have to help Joey you know?

(No you haven't missed a book)

DeWee · 16/06/2014 19:13

Don't worry about being a part timer, Robin, we know the times in school were the restful ones.

ToniWol · 16/06/2014 19:18

EBD kept skipping terms - that's why there's all the fill-ins that GGBP keep publishing.

TheObligatoryNewGirl · 16/06/2014 19:37

Just reading Kenya - at what point did Tom stop being "Lucinda Muriel" and become "Muriel Lucinda"? Or was she always the latter, and I've just got mixed up... but I could've sworn she was originally "Lucinda Muriel" when she was first introduced in Tom...

RueDeWakening · 16/06/2014 20:09

It's just another EBD-ism I think. I even noticed that one as a kid :o

EElizavetaofBelsornia · 16/06/2014 21:21

Wow how are you all doing that flag? Can I have a Belsornian one?

RueDeWakening · 16/06/2014 21:48

I'm not sure Belsornia qualified for the world cup, sadly, so I don't think it'll be an option: www.mumsnet.com/member/public-profile :o

DeWee · 16/06/2014 21:57

I think you should ask HQ for one Elizavita

I thought Tom was LM, because it always made me think of the Anne of Green Gables books.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 16/06/2014 22:47

I always hoped Anna and Rosli would join a union. Grin Yes! The Chalet School and the Industrial Tribunal.

lark, of course the school all gets bussed to Simone's wedding, Joey's gone all bridemaidzilla over it. Can you imagine the wedding-related AIBUs that whole business could spawn?

I've just read Oberland - oh, it has such a joyous absence of Joey! And it has boys, and makeup, and stuff. Well, OK, it has boy, singular. And one occasion of makeup. But they're both very overstated, so it feels like much more.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 16/06/2014 22:50

Or maybe Anna and Rosli Work To Rule : no more 5am lettuces, preparation of dangerous green dyes, bottling of extra fruit, or suddenly whipping up a meal for Joey's 20 unexpected guests of reluctant new girls and their Chosen Ones...

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 16/06/2014 22:51

Ps. Please can someone explain bottled fruit to me?

Hakluyt · 16/06/2014 22:53

Bottled fruit= preserved in light syrup in jars. Plums are particularly delicious.

SweetestThing · 16/06/2014 23:02

We were on holiday near Interlaken years ago and I was in seventh heaven, remembering trips to the dentist Herr Frankius (I think) and when we went to Lauterbrunnen and tried to figure out which one would have been the Gornetz Platz, DH almost had to restrain me :)

I had a great plan for running Chalet School Tours. I'd buy a big old chalet, give the rooms names like Leafy, Jonquil and Gentian, have checked tablecloths and different coloured glasses on the tables, fluffy potatoes and delicious concoctions for dinner and run guided rambles during the day before charades or progressive games at night.

Reader, I was in my 40s....but I bet you would have all come, wouldn't you?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/06/2014 23:50

Book me in, SweetestThing - it sounds amazing! Will we have different languages on different days?

Marcipex · 17/06/2014 07:01

I'll join you in Leafy, or maybe Alpenrose....
Although I am currently reading in bed lying down without a bed jacket , so I'll need a bit of sheep dogging :)

JoeyMaynardsghost · 17/06/2014 07:33

sweetestThing book me in!

Marcipex sheep dogging just sounds a bit not quite right. I must have been associating with someone common very possibly Joan Baker. She has a perm you know.

hels71 · 17/06/2014 07:36

Chalet holidays sound like a brilliant idea!!!!!

Marcipex · 17/06/2014 07:38

She's not the cheaply pretty one is she?
I'm just running my icy bath and sorting out the appropriate underneaths.

JoeyMaynardsghost · 17/06/2014 07:42

I can't remember, haven't re-read that book yet. I know she had a book which was unsuitable for schoolgirls. Didn't her parents win the pools.

Very un-CS. Shock

ToniWol · 17/06/2014 07:45

I do have a picture of me from 2010 (we'd gone to see the Passion Play) on a day trip to Pertisau under the plaque in the local library which says about the books being set there.
