I think breast milk jewellery is quite sweet actually, I have some EBM in the freezer that is coming up on a year and can't be used for my DD since it's from before we were dairy free, I had toyed with the idea getting something made. The website I was looking at was a different one, didn't have any umbilical stump products.

I don't think the milk jewellery is disgusting, it's made into resin so it's not like you have actual milk sloshing around gping rank!

The umbilical stump thing isn't really my bag, but I agree that it's not so different from curls of hair or ashes. I'm a nurse and we are often asked by patients if they can keep removed staples, teeth, metal work or appendices (teeth, yes; appendix no!).

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 06/06/2014 09:22

Meh - as others have said, it's just body stuff, like hair in a locket. The only difference is the unfamiliarity.

Bit like people happy to eat cows and sheep but horses OMG NO THAT'S TOTALLY UNNATURAL...

dancinggerald · 06/06/2014 09:27

I know a few people who have breast milk jewellery. I think it's a lovely reminder of a beautiful time, personally. But the cost would stand in my way! I wouldn't go as far as umbilical stump jewellery though!!

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2014 09:30

I eat chicken but I wouldn't want to hang a bit round my neck. Grin

Talisawasnotsupposedtobethere · 06/06/2014 09:34

Yes, food of any description and jewellery should be kept separate!

Do you think she would know if I sent some formula in a bag?

Catsize · 06/06/2014 09:49

dancing, this is true. Most of us wear cow skin on our feet.

Deverethemuzzler · 06/06/2014 09:49

No they are not disgusting, its not unnatural but why the need to wear some of your milk in a bit of jewelry?

BFing was great for me. I loved it, found it easy. Did if for a large part of my adult life.

But the very fact it is a normal, natural bodily function is the reason I think these things are weird.

Its just breastmilk. Why make a fetish out of it.

I wouldn't wear hair in a necklace either. Something about that makes me a bit bleugh but I accept that is my issue.

Catsize · 06/06/2014 09:50

Sorry, meant bruno Blush

TulipOHare · 06/06/2014 10:00

There was a thread about this recently, think it was in Chat.

I think it's fine. I breastfed, it did mean a lot to me, I have very happy memories of it and feel quite sad to think I'll never do it again. I don't have one of these but can see why people might buy them.

The umbilical cord stump though...no. Just no. I was grossed out by them when they were on the DC and couldn't wait for them to drop off.

mrsbucketxx · 06/06/2014 11:54

i wasn't googling to find them Sparkling they are all over a Worcester mums Facebook group im on. lots seem really interested and i thought i might be a bit strange feeling that it a bit gross about it.

that's why i love mn you guys speak sense

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2014 12:09

It would be all over the local paper mrsb. Grin

hedgemoo · 06/06/2014 12:23

I think they are nice and would consider getting one now I've seen it!

Smug? Maybe, but I've had my share of fail in life - don't see why I shouldn't celebrate the fact that something was nice and went well!

StillFrigginRexManningDay · 06/06/2014 12:27

I think its a bit silly but sure a fool and their money are easily parted.

Deverethemuzzler · 06/06/2014 12:38

I think its sad if people think people who manage to bf are smug.

I don't know though. Is making such a big deal out of BF and BM not perpetuating the myth that its hard and 'special' and for a certain type of person?

Thing is, I don't like them, I wouldn't wear it, but I wouldn't laugh and point at someone who did.

I have lots of friends who have their children's ashes made into necklaces and I get very cross at people who judge. Ditto memorial tattoos and various other things that see weird, unhealthy and (that old favourite)morbid to others.

So I guess my own conclusion is 'each to their own'.

Bland enough for you? Grin

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2014 12:50

If someone was wearing one and I asked 'What's that' (because TBF they do look a bit unusual). How would the wearer reply?

'It's a necklace with my breastmilk in'. I think my next question would be 'Why?'. Especially if their DC were teens or something.

But in RL I would say nothing and just think 'Oh there's one of those weird necklaces I saw on MN'. Grin

Pregnantberry · 06/06/2014 13:08

Trying to imagine my OH's reaction if I presented him with breast milk cufflinks. Grin

Maybe I should, just to watch him squirm.

dexter73 · 06/06/2014 13:19

Well it is Father's Day soon Pregnantberry!

Igggi · 06/06/2014 13:19

Not queasy, not buying one though.
You get necklaces with fingerprints on them, all sorts of named jewellery (and tattoos), and obviously the old locket-with-lock-of-hair. Suspect it being breastmilk makes it seem "yukier".

Igggi · 06/06/2014 13:21

It might be a big deal to the wearer, like the people who wear marathon-type tshirts years after the event - it's a reminder of something significant to them.
How would you know they used your bm, is what my suspicious mind is wondering?

mrsbucketxx · 06/06/2014 13:23

good point iggy someone else's bm would be worse surely
