To be shocked at Sky News' coverage of the excavations in Praia Da Luiz?

I didn't see a lot of the initial coverage, as I was working abroad in 2007. But the Police are potentially excavating a little girl's body, regardless of the circumstances, and they've got live cameras at the scene, waiting. It's macabre, and it seems like regardless of the fact MM was a tiny little defenceless girl, she's fair game for the media.

I just think it's shitty. Do a quick piece on it, but is there any need for the close ups of the excavation site and a blow by blow account of what's happening?

Who says the public are expecting live updates outself? Live updates don't exist in this case, afaik. That seems to be a Charlie Brooker fantasy because I have yet to find a MaddyChannel. Sky rehashes the same old stuff every 30 minutes but that's a news update.

But if you've found the constant live update you refer to, maybe you can link to it.

I am a member of the public and journalist who doesn't happen to be covering this story. My TV was been switched off today because I had something else do do.

Was yours? Were you distressed about people who you worried didn't have your self restraint?

Stringles · 04/06/2014 19:51

I agree with you on most of that outsself (although at one point in this thread Kim did say that the media should sit and wait for police briefings. I can't remember her exact words). However, if news programmes entertaining, unfortunately no-one would watch it, news producers wouldn't make any money, and there wouldn't be any media to report the news. But yes, there is a balance that I don't think is quite being achieved anywhere in the mainstream media at present.

Kim - just because no body has been found, doesn't mean that 'nothing' is happening. Backgrounder, interviews with locals, even the putting up of tents, are all a part of this sad story. The updates are only brief, and only hourly-ish so I do t think they've been particularly invasive. If a body is found, they won't show it, obviously. Looking at mounds of earth is not particularly intrusive, nor upsetting for anyone, is it?

Stringles · 04/06/2014 19:52

If news programmes weren't entertaining, no-one would watch them

Yeah u clearly haven't read the reports then!

MadameDefarge · 11/06/2014 20:38

I have reported my own post, but my sentiments remain the same.

OutsSelf · 11/06/2014 20:38

I think we can all agree on that, Mdme

gordyslovesheep · 11/06/2014 20:39

you clear haven't got the brain power to work out that if they were so obviously guilty they would have been charged and stood trial and found so

they weren't and they haven't been

so jog on now dear

Foxy9mm · 11/06/2014 20:40

Read the OFFICIAL reports, not hear say or rumour, go on I dare u, then come back and tell me to fuck off

Hulababy · 11/06/2014 20:41

Foxy - you do not, as far as I know, have access to all the information the police and investigators at the time have/had. Therefore, you have no way of actually knowing what happened. If you did then the little girl's whereabouts would be known. They are not.

Of course MN cannot allow negative comments on the parents to stand. They have not been found guilty by a lawful court in any way at all. As far as the law is concerned they had nothing to do with the disappearance of their little girl. As far as the law is concerned they made a dreadful error in leaving their children home alone and paid the ultimate price.

MN is a website for parents, by parents - that means all parents wherever possible. These people are parents, innocent in the eyes of every law in the land, therefore they should not have anonymous people on a website calling them names and blaming them for their child's disappearance.

Obviously if you do actually have information that shows they are guilty then feel free to go to the police and tell them what it is, so they can take action.

Foxy are you head of the police then - is that how you know everything about everything

can you explain why they where not charged then? if it's so overwhelmingly obvious to the police that they where guilty and the evidence backs that up?

gordyslovesheep · 11/06/2014 20:45

sorry HQ I got cross !

RebeccaMumsnet · 11/06/2014 20:46

Evening all,

Can we please remind all that the McCanns are a family who lost a child.

We would very much appreciate it if people would stop speculating about what may or may not have happened and the possible culpability of the parents - we would hope we can all agree that we wouldn't wish this circumstance on anyone.

Many thanks

Peace and love all round Grin Gin

sorry rebecca. No more engaging with the crazies. Promise.

Hulababy · 11/06/2014 20:48

Yes Foxy - read all about them years ago now. I was assuming you actually had proper, new information that was different to previously published information. I mean - you say they are guilty after all. The police involved and the other investigations have not found them guilty at all. So, surely you must know something different an dnew that says they are actually guilty?

RebeccaMumsnet · 11/06/2014 20:48

@MadameDefarge

sorry rebecca. No more engaging with the crazies. Promise.

Fanks, appreciated Grin
