SIL looked shocked when I told her. How often do your kids get a hairwash?

Long haired teen girls, they do theirs when it's dirty. 3 times a week I guess. I don't keep track of when people shower. I just moan about heaps of wet towels in the wrong places.

skuntoo · 01/06/2014 22:04

My Children are mixed race both have afro hair. Dd once a fortnight its very very curly and half way down her back takes about 2.5 hrs to wash and style it. Ds its short so easier to wash maybe once a week

AntinousWild · 01/06/2014 22:04

Sunday nights only.

HouseofEliot · 01/06/2014 22:06

Every night here in the bath.

GoingGoingGoth · 01/06/2014 22:08

Twice a week, otherwise it's too fluffy!

nyzz · 01/06/2014 22:09

Twice a week here, Saturday always and then some random day when it looks scuzzy in the week for DD (8) as she has long hair and I can't face the trauma. DS (6) maybe 3 times max.

Joysmum · 01/06/2014 22:10

Every 3 or 4 days, same as mine.

careeristbitchnigel · 01/06/2014 22:14

DDs hair is done Once a week. Like mine. I have had several hairdressers comment on its good condition which is down to my "no products, infrequent washing" policy

I cannot fathom why on earth it is necessary to wash a 5 year old's hair every day - it's really bad for the hair

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/06/2014 22:16

Probably once a week for DD (8), twice for DS (10) - I just tell them to do it when it looks a bit rat-taily (DD) or gets greasy hair smell (DS).

missingwordsround · 01/06/2014 22:16

DFS (foster son) 2yo screamed and screamed about baths (3 months ago, when he first came to us) I am proud to say he now thinks they are fun and loves his baths.

He turned a corner when he let me wash his hair without screaming this week (woohooo!) I am washing his hair every other day at the moment ( as repetition seems to help)

DD (age 3 ) gets bathed daily - though we might miss the odd day- say once every 10 days- and hair wash 2-3 times a week.

Xihha · 01/06/2014 22:16

DD(5) once a week, if I can hold her still long enough - she screams her head off and tries to launch herself backwards every time i do it, she does have a bath and wash the rest of her without any fuss though and lets me comb through to check it everyday, she just hates water on her head.

DS(9) most days, hes a grubby child and washes it himself every time i tell him to have a shower

SirChenjin · 01/06/2014 22:18

A couple of times a week - if we can persuade him.

The screams and howls that you'll all hear across the UK is DC3 having his bath and hairwash, in case you wondered....

MrsC1966 · 01/06/2014 22:20

My dd has her hair washed once a week (and always has, she's now 12) - I'm not keen on over washing children as it's not particularly healthy.

Xihha · 01/06/2014 22:21

other people with hair wash refusing children make me feel so much better, my neighbours once knocked to check everything was ok coz DD was making so much fuss.

Lepreporn · 01/06/2014 22:24

Once a week. Sunday nights !
6 and 2 year old dds
More often if they get dirty obviously. 2 year old has been known to throw a bowl of porridge on her head.

Dragonlette · 01/06/2014 22:26

Dd1 washes hers about every other day, same as me, since she hit puberty.

Dd2 is 4, we do her hair when we go swimming or a Sunday night if we haven't been swimming that weekend, so once a week, no more than that.

pointythings · 01/06/2014 22:26

Twice or three times weekly - they're 11 and 13, and it really depends on how sweaty they've got. They generally judge it themselves.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 01/06/2014 22:29

My DS can do it every time he baths. Every day or every other day. My DD once a week with much persuasion

MrsBungle · 01/06/2014 22:31

Every second or third night for my 2yo and 5yo.

Notso · 01/06/2014 22:33

Why is really bad for the hair to be washed everyday careeristbitchnigel?

DustyCropHopper · 01/06/2014 22:33

Ds1 and 2 usually have their hair washed with shampoo on a Sunday and a Tuesday (swimming night is Tues), then they dunk their head in the bath on other nights. Dd has hers washed with shampoo most bath nights as she has a habit of getting sticky food etc in it.

BeeInYourBonnet · 01/06/2014 22:36

Once a week at least, sometimes twice if necessary. DCs are 5&7, and both have curly thick hair.

OutsSelf · 01/06/2014 22:38

Ha ha, I think my 3.5 yr old has had his hair shampooed probably fewer than twenty, certainly fewer than thirty times. It doesn't need it. My 1yr old, who was born with a full head of hair and who regularly draws compliments for.her hair, has never had her head shampooed. Mine.is long and I do it twice.a week, but I am an adult and I have different body chemistry than them. We live in London and the water leaves a residue,.not like the lovely Yorkshire and Northumbrian water I used in the past.

They're bathed everyday and DS goes swimming with his dad once a week. I hated having my hair washed as a kid. I'd rather not impose it on them when it's so clearly unnecessary. Shampoo is so full of yuck, too, and your head has got so many follicles, I don't think it can be good. We use health food.shop stuff without sodium laurel.sulphate etc, it is spenny and another reason to avoid unnecessary washing.

Obvs I've just outted myself as some lentil livered fuckwit. I'd donn a flameproof helmet except my hair' s now like a vast, naturally occurring bush-type helmet so fuck it Grin

SpeedwellBlue · 01/06/2014 22:45

Once a week tops.

appealtakingovermylife · 02/06/2014 01:28

Every night for my 2, ds 11 and dd 3, always have done.
My ds loves his baths/showers and sometimes has 2 a day but he's at that age now.
My dd has ringlet curls, it's not long, and if it isn't washed daily it looks horrendous, literally wash it with Aussie shampoo, condition twice weekly and leave it, no brushing ever, quick and easy:)
