sending cards after 20 week scan

My friend has just had her 20 week scan and I'm the only one who hasn't sent a 'baby girl' card. Is this normal? I'm really superstitious as a close family member had a still birth (I don't want to tell my friend as I don't want to upset her)
Should I just send a card?

That's wierd. I've seen congratulations-you're-expecting cards in a couple of card shops and wondered who on earth buys them - I just say "congratulations" when told of the pregnancy. I don't even give a card at a baby shower - just a nicely wrapped gift with a label saying "Happy Baby Shower". I give a card (and gift) that says congratulations after the baby is actually born. I don't plan on making a big deal of my 20 week scan, I'll tell people if they ask but it's a personal thing.

I work in a maternity hospital and know of at least 2 babies who were expected to be girls but when born were boys. Mad idea!

PassTheCakeitsbeenatough1 · 31/05/2014 22:14

Very over the top, wait until the baby is here safely and then buy card and maybe a present. How ridiculous.

Oh I dread the day I end up with an invitation to a gender reveal party, urgh.

Very very odd. Never heard of this. Don't send a card!

Pipbin · 31/05/2014 22:24

That's great, I hope they show it to his sister when she's older.

Shock I think I've heard it all now. I've also been thinking too, random3, isn't your friend being a bit 'entitled' in telling you EVERYONE has sent her a card except you. I find that really weird, scary almost.

What next - 'congratulations on conceiving' cards!?

Thenapoleonofcrime · 31/05/2014 22:32

I don't buy a present or send a card until the baby has arrived. I just feel its tempting fate (even though I don't really believe in that). No need though is there, and I have had friends whose births/babies have gone terribly wrong.

IneedAwittierNickname · 31/05/2014 22:32

I'm surprised an acquaintance of.mine hasn't had a hissy fit that people havenr sent her 20week scan congratulation cards, its just the sort of bollocks she goes in for, as.long as she's centre of attention mind!

If I'm ever fortunate enough to have another baby I'm gonna have a gender reveal party, and the cake will.be pink and blue layers. Ha Grin

Weegiemum · 31/05/2014 22:32

Oh I enjoyed revealing pregnancy! Only time that nice little old ladies say, in effect "Well Done for Shagging"!!

IneedAwittierNickname · 31/05/2014 22:33

No coco it will be 'congrats for dtd' cards!

weegiemum - that story about revealing the gender by cutting the cake is so cheesy!! They did that on TOWIE a few months ago. So incredibly stupid Grin

MrsBungle · 31/05/2014 22:35

I've never heard of such a thing! Cards are surely for when baby is born?!

BeeMom · 31/05/2014 22:39

Great... next year, you'll be expected to attend their POAS party Hmm

Birdsgottafly · 01/06/2014 00:47

It might be my 1st time "Nan" hormones talking (DD due in December), but I might try to talk her into a Gender reveal cake/s (with pictures on FB), just infront of those of us who really care, of course.

We're not into Gender colours, so we could use symbols from various cultures.

I might do this in public and see if it pops up on a thread.

amy83firsttimer · 01/06/2014 08:38

I have 2 cards from friends congratulating me on being pregnant. I'm only 17 weeks! I think it's no coincidence that neither of the women who sent the cards have kids and too much time on their hands

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/06/2014 09:11

I have two friends who had girls when they were told they were expecting boys! That's the reason we didn't wasn't to know with ds.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/06/2014 09:13

Sorry DM link, put very funny

Check out DM sadface.

Pipbin · 01/06/2014 09:19

Oh ffs. Really. Go to the DM because you were told it was a girl and the got it wrong?

As someone who is about to start my final round of IVF I have zero sympathy.

Only1scoop · 01/06/2014 09:22

Ugh how vile....

What a pair of idiots.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/06/2014 09:24

I know Pip, I found out I was having a girl a 20 weeks, we had about 5 things that were pink, everything else was gender neutral til she was born.
