Hi I am pissed off as we can't afford a day out with the kids. We both work hard but cannot even afford the bus fare to town then entry to the castle or lunch or anything. We can't stay in garden as it floods when rains so it's all marshy. I feel like such a ba mother Hmm

National Trust membership is expensive. And yes, you generally can't get to them by public transport. There is a good reason National Trust memnership is very middle class.

Doesn't have to be NT membership though does it - you could ask for an annual pass for whatever it is you can get to easily, for a family Christmas present, instead of individual "things" if that's what you would appreciate.

Also sort your dcs out with Blue Peter Badge Cards

If you could afford £7 per month you could join national trust of Scotland as a family membership. You can use your passes in all national trust places in England, Wales and Scotland. The benefit of this is that you can pay monthly (unlike the national trust which you have to pay an annual lump sum) and if you find you're not really using your membership much you can cancel it anytime.
