AIBU?

To send my sandwich back to be cut up?

Just phoned my husband from the bedroom (struggling with 4 month sleep regression baby) and asked him to make me a sandwich. Tomato puree with ham. Yum yum. Brings it up. . . Whole!!

I made him go back and cut it in half. AIBU or should I have been grateful to get it in the first place?

When my dh was in hospital, through necessity I invented the pizza toastie...

Tom puree spread on bottom slice, ham, mushrooms, onion and cheese on top, more bread all toasted to glorious golden crispness in the Breville.

It meant that when my very sick dh asked if I was eating properly in the short times I was at home I could honestly say my meals contained all the food groups Grin

When I was pregnant I craved cheese and piccalilli toasties. Amazing.

Your dp is very unreasonable. If you make a sandwich for someone then you cut it up.

I put a squirt of tomato purée on my finger every time I use it, Mmmmm. Then again I use horseradish or mustard to spread on my toast in the mornings.

Thank you glitterfeet. I knew someone would. I just skip the unnecessary dirtying of a finger in the middle bit.
still wondering if any of you are brave enough to now try my sandwich and admit it's delicious

I have informed said husband about sandwich cutting consensus although I now fear my taste for Tomato puree has somewhat overshadowed this debate.

Mother in law forgets the noodles and I come out looking like a weirdo. That was not a connection I saw coming!

For anyone who is now planning to try this- you use tomato puree as you would butter and spread it on both slices of bread. Add ham (2 slices preferable) and if you want the full experience a few walkers cheese and onion crisps. White or brown bread perfectly acceptable :)

I will have you all converted by the end of the day.

I can see the theory behind it, but which part of a pizza do the crisps constitute??

Bettercallsaul1 · 25/05/2014 10:15

Is it all right to declare yourself converted without actually trying it? If so, I'm in.

There are people on this thread who are quite slow on the uptake, OP.

There was a pizza in Morrisons yesterday with Doritos style tortilla chips on it.

No butter on the hamwidge?

Now that is wrong.

"The cheese thought that was fairly obvious"

Why would it be obvious?

Wasn't sure if the cheese flavour of the crisps was relevant or if it was a substitute for a crunchy topping.

No wafflyversatile butter in sandwiches is wrong. It should be banned and made illegal.

This.

The only place butter has on a piece of bread is if it's melted on toast.

So much controversy here! Good to see sandwich sectioning - and all related issues - examined with the rigour it merits. Well done, OP!

wafflyversatile - should the butter be spreaded thickly or thinly ,in your opinion?

Report
wafflyversatile · 26/05/2014 01:20

For a samwidge I normally go for medium and thorough coverage right up to the crusts - not always achievable with hard butter and soft bread.

However since a visit to the north of England I have been converted to thinly spread on both slices of bread for hamwidges. Although I mix it up a bit sometimes I usually prefer plain hamwidges. Very little improves a simple

bread
butter
ham
butter
bread

hamwidge.
