POST FROM DD: AIBU?

mumtoateen · 21/05/2014 17:07

Today in PSME, a girl had her hoodie on, and our cover teacher was shouting at her the whole lesson and being horrible and took her to the head at the end of the lesson. Another group of girls were filming themselves, singing loudly, playing on their phones, texting and filmed the 'argument' between the girl and the teacher. What did she do? Nothing.
Now forgive me, but I believe the second one is wrong, not the first. Am I unreasonable to report it to the school?

YANBU - if your dd feels that one of the girls was treated unfairly it can't hurt to speak up x

pissedglitter · 21/05/2014 17:15

Your post makes no sense sorry

mumtoateen · 21/05/2014 17:15

tripe
PSME, one lesson every fortnight where they 'learn about social issues'
Or a skive off lesson, that's held to the same standards as normal lessons, rightly, but very over taught.

Shakirasma · 21/05/2014 17:16

Sorry I don't understand. What was the first girl being shouted at for?

Pooka · 21/05/2014 17:17

Second one should not have been filming the argument and none of the children should have been mucking about.

First child should, I assume, not have been wearing a hoodie in class? Is it against uniform policy? So a swift telling off, her removing her hoodie and a mental note to stick to uniform policy.

mumtoateen · 21/05/2014 17:17

Wearing a non school uniform hoody, Shock worst crime nowadays

It's coming to something when parents are encouraging their children to bring their school yard scraps to MN.

Perhaps you would do better to encourage your child to speak directly to the teaching staff?

Or discuss things with their peers on a more a child friendly forum.

pissedglitter · 21/05/2014 17:18

Is your daughter the hooded girl?

Shakirasma · 21/05/2014 17:18

And did the girl take it off when told to?

JonesRipley · 21/05/2014 17:18

The post made sense to me.

The girls at the back were the ones disrupting the lesson and being disrespectful; however the teacher possibly was not confident in her ability to tackle these two and went for the easier target

YANBU

MrsMikeDelfino · 21/05/2014 17:19

Why does it not make sense? It does if you read it properly. What was the teacher shouting at her for? There must have been a reason to take her to the head, surely?
You're right, filming shouting and texting in class IS wrong and shouldn't be allowed and should be reported.

We used to have PSE lessons at high school (personal and social education) so I'm guessing PSME must be something like personal, social and mental education or something like that for those asking.

UriGeller · 21/05/2014 17:20

Perhaps a bit of a quiet word from the teacher to find out why the first girl had her hood up. She might have been self-conscious bout something, especially in the light of the girls filming.

Shouting at a student is never the right thing to do.

Girls filming were a consequence of the teachers lack of "control".

PookBob · 21/05/2014 17:20

Everyone is being a bit harsh with their replies, I certainly didn't struggle to understand the OP!

YANBU, but really there's not a lot you can do, esp if a cover teacher

WorraLiberty · 21/05/2014 17:20

Just because the second one is wrong, that doesn't make the first one right.

If she's not allowed to wear a hoodie to school, she shouldn't have worn one.

This isn't an MN issue, you really need to speak to the school.

JonesRipley · 21/05/2014 17:22

Uri

true

Wow, threads move quick here, loads of posts since my slow typing out! Grin

Wearing a non school uniform hoody, shock worst crime nowadays
Well, she shouldn't have been wearing it, should she? So should have taken it off when told to.
Should have punished the others mucking about as well though!

Unexpected · 21/05/2014 17:24

Sounds like a horrible class to me! Why would the girl not remove the hoodie when asked, why would people think it acceptable to be filming, texting and singing in class? I expect the cover teacher was expecting to teach and not have to try and exercise crowd control. After asking the girl to remove her hoodie the whole class decided to play up and the unfortunate teacher, who probably didn't even know the names of the students involved, just struggled on to the end of lesson. Who are you planning on complaining about - the teacher or the students?

StarGazeyPond · 21/05/2014 17:24

MrsMike

It does if you read it properly

Not to ME it doesn't.

Pooka · 21/05/2014 17:25

If the first girl refused to take her hoodie off or didn't do it sharpish, then appropriate for her to be taken to head later.

Sounds to me like the hoodie incident led to other disruption in the classroom while the teacher tried to deal with the first girl.

Phones should not be out in lessons.

pissedglitter · 21/05/2014 17:26

Two issues written in one long sentence = hard to understand

mumtoateen · 21/05/2014 17:26

DD doesn't wear a hoodie, it's 'too warm' (lies!)
School rules say nothing about wearing them to school, and only say jumpers should be worn in corridors, not saying that hooded jackets aren't allowed.

Topseyt · 21/05/2014 17:34

Were you there to witness this? If not, and you are just hearing it reported second hand then you cannot judge it.

It hardly sounds like any of the class were being angels. Horrible behaviour from the lot of them.
