Use the classes for support and pretend I am following the Slimming World diet?

Cheaper than an extra fifteen pounds per week for counselling at LighterLife, on top of the product price.

Yes three different diets mentioned Hmm

The SW classes will clap and cheer each week at my amazing losses Grin

Which would be pretty disingenuous for you to accept if you're actually on a VLCD! Presumably if you lose it so quickly your consultant will know? I just don't see why you'd join without actually doing it.

SoleSource · 18/05/2014 20:20

Not having a gastric band, too many complications can arise from having it done. Not risking it.

dexter you're so supportive, thanks.

damn can I PM you my PayPal account details and you pay the money for me? You must be wealthy Grin

Go for it, I like going for a weekly chat and gossip! Grin

DamnBamboo · 18/05/2014 20:26

It does seem like a lot, I agree.
But more and more organisations including the NHS, NICE, the BDA, the recent HOOP report are all moving to focus on the behaviour change aspect of things rather than the calories in/calories out bit.

I don't think £15 per week, if it's evidence-based (which I'm not sure of) is a lot at all.

SoleSource · 18/05/2014 20:27

It is for me damn :(

I'm gong for NHS CBT soon.

OP posts:
DamnBamboo · 18/05/2014 20:27

I also don't need the need for sarcasm to dexter either OP.
She makes some valid points!

DamnBamboo · 18/05/2014 20:29

I'm gong for NHS CBT soon

That's great. It's a step in the right direction.
Maybe also ask for a referral to a specialist tier 3 obesity management clinic from your GP. See what they say to that? There might be one in your area.

SoleSource · 18/05/2014 20:30

Not really fair judging me I wasn't well,. Who said I had tried dieting many times?

Looking for a row Damn? Well go somewhere else....

OP posts:
DamnBamboo · 18/05/2014 20:32

I'm not judging you OP!
I don't think she was either, seems like she was askign a questions.
I'm not looking for a row either - I've given you some fairly specific advice, should you choose to consider it.

I'll go where I like thanks.

QOD · 18/05/2014 20:34

I wouldn't recommend a gastric band ever, they don't really do them on the nhs much now, but gastric bypass, duodenal switch etc would sort you out.
13 stone is such a lot, I had a bypass and lost 8 stone

littlemefi · 18/05/2014 20:34

If talking about being 'fair', I would be upset if I knew one of the members of my SW group were instead following a vlcd and having good losses, accepting praise, certificates, slimmer of the week prizes etc dishonestly.

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 18/05/2014 20:37

Why don't you just use the CD sachets as a kick start and then join a sli
mming club?

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 18/05/2014 20:39

Ah sorry, I see you want the class support- in which case I would sell the CD sachets?

TippiShagpile · 18/05/2014 20:40

Surely it depends how much you have to lose? If you have, say, 5 stone to lose then 5lbs a week is roughly what you'd expect. If you have a stone to lose then a pound might be about right.

DamnBamboo · 18/05/2014 20:40

Who said I had tried dieting many times?

You did!

I have done the SW diet many times

SoleSource · 18/05/2014 20:42

I wouldn't accept the food prizes.

Is the duodenal switch available on the NHS?

OP posts:
SoleSource · 18/05/2014 20:43

Guess so Tippi

I will give it a go Grin

Oh Damn...

OP posts:
MammaTJ · 18/05/2014 20:44

I wouldn't. SW is based on the premise that you can eat loads. You would only get envious of people losing weight and actually eating loads. I can losed 5lbs a week by actually sticking to SW. I don't even have the willpower to do that, let alone stupid shakes. Why would you think this is going to be different for you?

SoleSource · 18/05/2014 20:44

The SW world diet not Cambridge...

OP posts:
CortanaFights · 18/05/2014 20:44

'Who said I had tried dieting many times?

Grin
SoleSource · 18/05/2014 20:45

Because I am very overweight and I need to cut food out. They're not stupid, why you say that Mamma?

OP posts:
SoleSource · 18/05/2014 20:46

Yes but not Cambridge.....

OP posts:
SoleSource · 18/05/2014 20:46

Hence me not doing SW... gawd

OP posts:
MammaTJ · 18/05/2014 21:00

They are. The whole shake instead of a proper meal messes you up, so you can never return to proper food and not gain weight.

SW and WW (from what I understand about WW) both train you to adjust your eating habits for life! They teach you how to eat normally and sensibly and still lose weight, then maintain it when you have lost it. If you stick to them, they work.

If you cannot stick to a diet that allows you a lot of free food, then why do you think you are going to stick to one that severely restricts your food.

The money back guarantee on SW is based on you sticking to the plan. If you fail to stick to the shakes, would you still claim back on that? Would you be happy with the consultant spending time with you, trying to help you, when she could be trying to help someone who is really wanting to stick to the plan?

MammaTJ · 18/05/2014 21:03

A [http://www.letgoandlivewell.com/why-diet-shakes-dont-work/ link] to show you what I mean.
