AIBU to want to revive Jilly Cooper thread?

Valdeeves · 18/05/2014 11:45

Remember that thread about wanting to be a Jilly Cooper character?
I think that's me right now - I want to be going to a terribly glamorous office party (after a week of only eating steak and oranges) or holidaying in San Tropez with some very unsuitable tennis players.
Anybody with me?

Dartmoor My #1 choice for PFB due Dec is a JC name.... Grin

Amethyst24 · 18/05/2014 19:27

Jilly Cooper once wrote me a letter too. She let me down horribly in a work context and I vowed never to read a book of hers again. I think I lasted about six months.

Remember the scene with Ranaldini lunging Hermione? "Wrong leg," pmsl.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 18/05/2014 19:30

I'm going to cook an amazing aga supper while Declan runs round furiously looking for his cat sick yellow socks.

LizzieVereker · 18/05/2014 19:43

Oh dear, I got so carried away with writing reading The Tatler that I didn't notice the springer spaniel had eaten what I'd prepared for kitchen sups. (Well, the shepherd's pie that Taggie knocked up for my freezer).
( I am speaking to you from the Rivals phase, when Taggie is still doing lunches and filling people's freezers. But not shooting lunches.)
Luckily my lovely, understanding he has to be, he's common and stinking rich husband Fred has offered to take me out for a meal to The White Elephant in Painswick. I shall have the delicious beef daube and three bottles of Sancerre.

AuntieBrenda · 18/05/2014 19:49

I'm due in nov
If it's a girl, I really want to give her a name where I can call her taggie but I don't like agatha Hmm
I've always loved horses but never, ever got into jc until the thread on here that appeared during the Olympics. I bloody loved all 3 horsey books. Well done that thread starter, summer 2012 Wine

ItsAliveItsElectric · 18/05/2014 19:53

Hmm....I would have loved a Pimms but as I am so poor and my name is Daisy (and may or may not have a wayward daughter called Perdita) all I can have is a glass of vodka topped with a mere splash of tonic. But thats ok as Ricky will drop by soon to whisk me out for a meal and several bottles of champers!

MrsDeanAmbrose · 18/05/2014 20:00

I think she's currently writing one about flat racing - Rupert's back to the fore again apparently. I'm sure he'll still be desperately in love with Taggie and her cloudy hair. Little Cosmo Rannaldini is no longer so little apparently.

I've just read all 8 of the Rutshire chronicles again. Wicked is dreadful, but I quite enjoyed Jump.

PrimalLass · 18/05/2014 20:01

Yes I thought there was another one due soon too.

I recently finished reading them all in order again

The last thread was brilliant.

thenightsky · 18/05/2014 20:05

I've put Riders onto my phone so I can dip in and out, reading snatches of it here and there, just to keep the Jilly vibe alive in my head.

Love, love, love the whole feel of Riders, Rivals, Polo books. The summers and always hot and the winters have proper snow.

ecofreckle · 18/05/2014 20:16

What about the man who made husbands jealous??? Can't that be added to the holy trinity if that's not oxymoronic Isn't Lysander the best? I may have foolishly stated to dh earlier on that Lysander is the sexiest book character. And then he reminded me of Mr Rochester Blush But, Bronte aside, it is a great book, no?

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 18/05/2014 20:20

I walked through a lane with wild garlic today and thought of Jilly. I do love her.

And obviously I would do Rupert repeatedly. Who wouldn't?

PunkrockerGirl · 18/05/2014 21:56

I would do Rupert. And Billy Lloyd Foxe Grin

Thurlow · 18/05/2014 21:58

What does wild garlic smell like?!

I'd chuck Rupert out of bed. Apparently he was crap.

Luke Alderton, though... And Ricky France-Lynch - oh, Ricky, poor wounded Ricky...

Bowlersarm · 18/05/2014 22:02

An Thurlow, it has taken me years to track down wild garlic. All because of Jilly and her 'pungent smell of wild garlic'. I think I've found it. It's about bluebell height with a head of white flowers, and I think it's the leaves you use in cooking. If you pick a leaf and crumple it, it smells like chives/onion/garlic.

Thurlow · 18/05/2014 22:03

I'm going to be hunting that next weekend!

LabradorMama · 18/05/2014 22:04

500 I couldn't agree more - I know those three like the back of my hand and love them immeasurably. I also have spent many years puzzling over things such as shirtwaisters and wishing I could go to one of Chessie's parties

LabradorMama · 18/05/2014 22:05

Oh and how could I forget Taggie and her voice like a soft teddy bear growl? grrrr

I trimmed my Bush today then I rubbed fracas all over, especially round the backs of my knees, before going braless in a 1970s cheesecloth dress,in which frankly my blobs strain against the fabric. Lord knows what will happen if it rains!

heraldgerald · 18/05/2014 22:20

Boobs.
Boobs. Not blobs!!!

Valdeeves · 18/05/2014 22:24

Sorry its taken me so long to reply, I have been hastily cutting my fridge with the bacon scissors and putting a dress on that's too tight across the bust.

OP posts:
Valdeeves · 18/05/2014 22:25

Fringe!!! Ha ha

skinmysunshine · 18/05/2014 22:32

My book group picked Rivals for this month's read. Have read before but really looking forward to it

OverAndAbove · 18/05/2014 22:34

Ah yes, the old bacony fridge fringe; it's a classic!

Never mind, by the time your new flame has poured a glass of champagne down your too-tight dress it will be the least of your worries!
