It was an essential part of the cake-making experience when I was young, but times, and farming methods, have changed and now I'm not so sure I should encourage it (though I might have a sneaky lick of the spoon myself for old times' sake when they're not looking).

A good mum lets her kids lick the beaters, a great mum turns them off first

I am 27, I have ALWAYS licked the spoon/bowl etc, and NEVER ever been ill from it. I honestly don't know anyone that has been.

When I make cakes, I have to leave a bowl of raw cake mix to one side for a friend of mine who loves it more than the finished result. He has never been sick either.
