DDs are in bed, I'm 36wk pg and exhausted.

DD1 awake still DD2 a light sleeper. There is a MASSIVE spider on their floor which keeps going under the bed then ip onto the duvet and under again.

WTF do I do, I hate them I can't catch it. I could try and hoover it but then DD1 will know and her mattress is onffloor (trying out room sharing and I can't lift her frame) and she also hates them so won't sleep. Also DD2 will wake and she's a nightmare to get to sleep.

But can I ignore it, it's going to do a spidery bastard climb on my babies

Arrgghhh

Of course they might bite because they are being chased by a much larger animal than them!

I don't think British spider bites can be felt by humans (possibly some of the bigger ones can though) I never let one get near enough me to find out. I don't kill them though, I think they are useful, I just prefer something to be between me and them (like a window or a wall, windows are good as I can watch them while knowing they can't come near me). Smile

My dog and cats are no help either, they chase and stalk them but if they try to eat them they spit them out as I assume they don't taste very nice!

Don't think spiders sting though, are you thinking of scorpions? I think they are related. Grin

I found throwing heavy books the most successful method, but I got arm-ache after book number 11 and it was a fairly noisy approach. I try to love spiders, I really do, but I just can't. Sad

I'm sorry, OP, but your going to have to burn the house down. It's the only way.

[shudder] anyone else feel imaginary spiders climbing all over them?

hiddenhome · 16/05/2014 21:48

I'm The Spider Protection League Smile

I aim to promote tolerance and appreciation of our eight legged friends.

I have eight tarantula spiders and one pet house spider.

Spiders are nothing to be frightened of and won't harm you if you just leave them alone

If you want to scare them off, bang the floor hard with something and they'll run off. Spiders don't mean you any harm.

Topseyt · 16/05/2014 21:48

I dyson them up. Failing that I might move house or start sleeping in the car.

I can't stand the critters.

I see the spider protection league already rocking up.

Tell me, there must surely be a better way of controlling the fly and insect population than horrendous spiders.

Op and her dc are probably been held hostage by a FUCK OFF eight legged beast!Shock

BlackeyedSusan · 16/05/2014 21:50

oh fucking bloody hell... never google...

FourAndDone · 16/05/2014 21:51

Crystal- I prefer to kill them, no chance of that particular beast returning then.Smile

hiddenhome · 16/05/2014 21:51

I really need to know what you all think they'll do to you?

Sure, they look ugly and a bit creepy, but try to be rational. They don't actually do anything.

We don't have any dangerous spiders in this country - apart from the rare banana hitching ones you find in Sainsburys.

Ploppy16 · 16/05/2014 21:52

You know weirdly I like tarantulas. Probably because they don't lurk like other spiders do.

Objection · 16/05/2014 21:52

I just Google to find out the difference between a tarantula and a spider.
And i really wish I hadn't

A tarantula is not truly a spider. Although they are in the same family of Arachnids, they are different due to the fact that a true spider's fangs move on an axis, while a tarantula must attack in a specific manner. Tarantulas mainly rise onto their hind legs and lunge because their fangs are fixed in one position

Sad
MyCatLovesMeSometimes · 16/05/2014 21:52

Dcat eats spiders. Though she has been known to leave the odd leg twitching on the floor or worse wander up to you with the spider still in her mouth.

So getting rid of spiders a cat is needed.....(however you then have the problem of the mice, birds and once notably a toad that the cat then brings you).

FourAndDone · 16/05/2014 21:53

Hidden- they bite, they scare me and they live rent free in my home!
Nuff said.

Objection · 16/05/2014 21:53

Are you still alive OP?

Objection · 16/05/2014 21:54

half expecting this to come through from OP:

"softlysoftly is dead.
You're next.
Love spider"

StealthPotato · 16/05/2014 21:54

Yes, veryimportantpissartist I am confident that my flamethrower (now patent pending ) would be effective on a huntsman. It would at least buy the hostage a few precious seconds to escape with their life.

Can we all stop talking about postcards and glasses...that involves getting FAR TOO FUCKING CLOSE to the spider. Flaming can be carried out from at least a few feet away with a large can of hairspray.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/05/2014 21:54

what do they do? they lurk, then they run fast and scare the heck out of me. the neighbours are not keen on the blood curdling screams.

I know tarantulas are a different type of thing, but they resemble spiders enough to be considered a spider ifyswim.

They can bite if disturbed or poked, but will run away as a first resort.

I took a load of macro photos today of a white crab spider which had caught a fly and was sucking it dry. This probably isn't the right thread on which to post one of the photos.
