to ask how you dress your babies in this lovely weather?

Lighthearted but I do really want to know!

It's flip flop weather (I think) so today my 11 week old dd was in a lightweight romper suit, sleeveless vest, spf 50 sun hat and socks. She seemed fine and neither too hot nor too cold, her usual jolly, bouncy little self.

When I went to a baby group I was amazed at how many babies were layered up in knitted dresses, furry cardis, tights, etc.

Am I just one of those brits who gets carried away and under-dresses at the first hint of sunshine? Should my dd have been in head to toe knit wear today??

Mine aren't babies any more. But when they were it was short rompers, hats and sunscreen. I always had a cardi and long socks to hand in case it turned chilly.

missknows · 15/05/2014 18:55

Today my 16 week old wore a short sleeve vest as always with shorts and tights and a thin sweater. No t shirt.

freezation · 15/05/2014 18:57

My 2.5 year old was in a short-sleeved knee-length cotton dress with vest and knickers underneath (no tights). It was hot today and she is a little sweat monster. It sounds like what your little one was dressed in was fine. You can always put a muslin/thin blanket over her if it gets cool. Layering is key!

We're indoors and it's cold in our house - he's wearing what he's worn all week, jeans sgort vest snd long sleeve top. If I went out I'd keep him in it then regret it by the sounds of it.

He really hates being too hot and generally looked underdressed all winter.

Rollermum · 15/05/2014 19:02

I'm mum to an 8 month old baby who runs very hot, and I've learned there isn't a rule - it depends on the baby. For months I've been taking her to groups where she is in one layer and others are in 3-4. It really just depends. Today she was in v thin summer top and trousers.

poocatcherchampion · 15/05/2014 19:03

just a vest.
people always overdress babies IMO.

GwenStacy · 15/05/2014 19:05

My six month old was in leggings, short sleeved vest and long sleeved best over the top and she was fine - took her out in the sling and she wore just the two vests, bare legged :)

jessiemummy28 · 15/05/2014 19:07

My 6 month old was in a dress, short sleeve vest, socks and sun hat today. I carried a cardigan with me in case she was cold but we didn't need to use it. She hates being too hot though so I always tend to under dress her rather than over dress her.

ILoveCwtches · 15/05/2014 19:15

My 1yr old was in short sleeved vest, short sleeved top & thin trousers. She had socks on purely to keep the sun off her feet. Oh and her sun hat with sun cream.

I saw several babies in jeans/tights, thick jumpers, blankets and a few times they were under their plastic raincovers.

Am I missing some sunshiney advantage of them or would a raincover not act like a greenhouse in direct sunlight?

CbeebiesIsAboutToPop · 15/05/2014 19:19

My 13 day old wore a short sleeved vest, babygro and in the shade had a thin blanket on (there was a breeze and his chest felt cold)

I think it depends on age and the child. Fwiw my 2 and 3 year olds were in a sleeveless vest, thin long tshirt, leggins and sandles.

angryangryyoungwoman · 15/05/2014 19:20

My 6 month old has been naked in the garden all day except for when napping, when I covered her with a blanket

ikeaismylocal · 15/05/2014 19:23

I just had ds in a vest when it was warm.

I don't think your supposed to use suncream until they are over 6 months. You are just supposed to keep them out of the sun which isn't very hard as they can't move independantly

baby suncream info.

Dukketeater · 15/05/2014 19:45

Mine is always the one with the least layers on too!

maggiethemagpie · 15/05/2014 19:59

I've taken great pleasure in finally giving my 8 month old dd's summer wardrobe an airing. Today she wore a denim romper from next with bodysuit underneath. Tomorrow she will be wearing another romper, potentially with a cardigan but not if it's too warm. Plus sun hat.

weeblueberry · 15/05/2014 20:05

DD is 12 months and was wearing a vest, light tshirt and leggings when I dropped her at my mums at lunchtime. When I went to pick her up she was running around in just her vest and I drove home with her just wearing that. But then, as another poster mentioned, she runs very hot and has never been keen on being overdressed. We joke she'd live in the nude if it were up to her...

jeanmiguelfangio · 15/05/2014 20:31

My 14 month old was in a short sleeved tshirt and leggings. No socks but shoes outside, there is surely a risk of overheating as well as under heating

Szeli · 15/05/2014 20:36

We've just bought a cosy toes as it's too cold and he's kicking off the blankets; guess no one is local to me!

We had a nice ish day this week and attempted the beach (too cold when we got in the wind) but he wore long shorts, vest, tshirt and body warmer - he's 1.

Last summer when it got warmer (in the 20s) I took him out in vest and hat with joggers for when it got cool

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 15/05/2014 20:38

What was the temperaure where you all live? My six month old ds wore a long sleeved bodysuit and dungarees with socks and a jersey hat, in his sling. It wasn't flip flop weather here. Our house runs 20-22 degrees most days so it would need to be significantly hotter than that for me to dress the baby in less than normal.

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 15/05/2014 20:39

MrsSpencerReid · 15/05/2014 20:40

YANBU I was hot in jeans and a light top Tuesday, I couldn't believe the number of children with thick coats on, blankets and footmuffs, they it's have been boiling poor things Hmm

elvislives2012 · 15/05/2014 20:41

My 19 month old wore a t shirt, hat and nothing else. She loved running around the garden with her bottom out Grin

jessiemummy28 · 15/05/2014 20:42

Socially it was about 22 degrees, maybe hotter in the sun. Our house is usually around 18 and even then DD rarely has a jumper on, so 22 was practically tropical Wink

GeordieMama · 15/05/2014 20:46

7 month old DS was in a long sleeved vest, jogging trousers and socks.
