to continue to report non-AIBUs in AIBU to MNHQ?

MardyBra · 14/05/2014 17:41

Ok, so it's not a big thing, but it gets my goat when people put non AIBUs in AIBU either because they are lazy to find the topic (is Chat really that hard) or to get extra traffic. To me, it's a bit like queue-jumping, which is just not British.

It's also annoying for those of us who have hidden certain topics from active convos, so you'll suddenly find something like "AIBU to ask you for camping tips?" or "AIBU to think baby-led weaning is the business?" when you've hidden those topics.

Every so often, I'll report to MNHQ. Sometimes, they'll move the thread and sometimes they'll reply that, yes, I'm right, but they don't want to be too heavy-handed and they'll leave it.

Anyone going to report me and see if I get moved?

I object to those kind of fake AIBUs far less than the jokey "AIBU to eat this cake?" type. At least the former are attempting to have serious conversation on something. Tedious banter like the latter should be in chat IMO.

LineRunner · 14/05/2014 17:47

I don't know, really

500smiles · 14/05/2014 17:48

Of course YANBU - people posting shite in AIBU just to get lots of replies and look popular gets on my tits.

I don't understand what is wrong with posting on chat if they cba to look for the right topic, at least then it will vanish after 90 days

DevonCiderPunk · 14/05/2014 17:51

YANBU

PrincessBabyCat · 14/05/2014 17:53

One day I'm going to be a smart ass and reply to the type of threads saying.

"Yes, you are being very unreasonable to ask for camping tips. How dare you."

But it really doesn't bug me. There's bigger things to worry about than misplaced internet threads.

FunnyFoot · 14/05/2014 17:56

The only AIBU posts that piss me off are the ones who ask AIBU so you answer yes and give reasons...then they accuse you of bullying/being mean/not RTFT or get the thread deleted because everyone is mean/bullying/not giving the answer they wanted.

CommunistLegoBloc · 14/05/2014 17:58

Agreed, funnyfoot.

'AIBU to let me 7 year old son smoke Benson and Hedges whilst rutting the family dog?'

Collective voice of MN: YABU

'Fuck you all, you just don't understand, it's normal for kids round here, you're all so PO..'

grocklebox · 14/05/2014 18:00

do it. its really fucking annoying. lazy bastards.

FunnyFoot · 14/05/2014 18:01

Ooh yes missed out the constant cries of PO and lets not forget MN royalty Hmm

Theodorous · 14/05/2014 18:02

If it makes you feel better. Or pop out and get some sunshine and air in the actual world.

MardyBra · 14/05/2014 18:02

Some current offenders imho:

to ask about Sindy dolls?

To think we are all ready to remove to Inter V at the Chalet School.
to tell you to warn your teenagers about Twitter?
to love regional accents
To find these episodes of Location Location Location very funny

^"One day I'm going to be a smart ass and reply to the type of threads saying.

I do that sometimes and get accused of being overly mardy. Grin

CoffeeTea103 · 14/05/2014 18:03

Yanbu, the 'oops I thought this was chat' really is annoying. How stupid can you be to not know the difference. Just lazy.

grocklebox · 14/05/2014 18:05

I do tell them sometimes and always get called thread police or told to fuck off.
Do I get a shiny badge?

BornFreeButinChains · 14/05/2014 18:06

I am amazed some people have so much time on their hands, they do volunteer work for MNHQ and even then, when pointing stuff out, they don't want to change something.

I save reporting for something offensive.

I think its more annoying to have a thread that is yeidling very helpful advice, which after all is what MN is for .....and some pedant comes on, sticking their oar in saying....OH this isnt the right place, bla bla.

get a life

FunnyFoot · 14/05/2014 18:07

grocklebox · 14/05/2014 18:07

you're here. obviously you have too much time as well

get one yourself.

MardyBra · 14/05/2014 18:11

Theo and BornFree. My very first point is that it's not a big thing. But if I see someone queue jumping in a shop I point it out. And I'm just taking a couple of minutes to say the same thing here.

As for reporting, I report far more offensive/trolly threads. But just once in a while, I'll press a button and leave a message saying "I don't think this is aibu." I don't think that could be interpreted as not having a life. Hmm

OP posts:
500smiles · 14/05/2014 18:53

Too much time on your hands?

Isn't that exactly what MN is for?

MardyBra · 16/05/2014 18:02

"Too much time on your hands?"

Yes so much, I haven't been back to update the thread for two days.

And when I do, I want to use my time efficiently thank you - I want to get straight to the bunfights or the threads I like, rather than the queue-jumping dross, thank you very much. Wink

grocklebox · 16/05/2014 18:06

Ive been pointing out to people the error of their ways today, in your honour. not a kindly response.
Aibu is littered the last few days, absolutely strewn. ASking where to get a cake in London (fucking anywhere, presumably), whats this new emoticon, who won masterchef.....are people just posting every stray thought in aibu now?

MardyBra · 16/05/2014 18:08

Thank you grockle. Keep up the good work.

OP posts:
MardyBra · 16/05/2014 18:14

Ha ha! I've just seen your response on the cake tin thread. Grin

grocklebox · 16/05/2014 18:17

its rather fun when you get on a roll.
