to continue to report non-AIBUs in AIBU to MNHQ?

MardyBra · 14/05/2014 17:41

Ok, so it's not a big thing, but it gets my goat when people put non AIBUs in AIBU either because they are lazy to find the topic (is Chat really that hard) or to get extra traffic. To me, it's a bit like queue-jumping, which is just not British.

It's also annoying for those of us who have hidden certain topics from active convos, so you'll suddenly find something like "AIBU to ask you for camping tips?" or "AIBU to think baby-led weaning is the business?" when you've hidden those topics.

Every so often, I'll report to MNHQ. Sometimes, they'll move the thread and sometimes they'll reply that, yes, I'm right, but they don't want to be too heavy-handed and they'll leave it.

So what IS an appropriate AIBU then? I was unaware there were rules Hmm

Peekingduck · 16/05/2014 18:22

I really couldn't give a stuff to be honest. I think MN has far too many boards anyway, it means that people don't notice them, posts get ignored... I'd merge AIBU and Chat into one for a start. Grin

FragglerockAmpersand · 16/05/2014 18:24

YANBU & they deserve naught but derision - but where on earth do you find the time?!

oohdaddypig · 16/05/2014 18:26

Seriously? Who gives a flying fuck!

Just don't answer. I'm always amazed by the things that irritate people Hmm

MammaTJ · 16/05/2014 18:26

It might just be that they are on the app, where it is hard to find different topics!

If not, YANBU!

MardyBra · 16/05/2014 18:27

"Seriously? Who gives a flying fuck!

And I'm always amazed by how aggressive some people can be on MN.

Ubik1 · 16/05/2014 18:27

Whatever gets you through the night op

Mintyy · 16/05/2014 18:27

Yanbu. Please carry on. I generally cba any more.

When I can be bothered, I like to post YABU on threads with titles like Aibu to find dog poo disgusting?, aibu to think people shouldn't smoke in their cars with babies?

Yesterday there were three threads in aibu where the op had also posted in the correct topic!! So now people are not only cluttering up aibu, they are filling it with duplicate threads too.

Fuckers.

MardyBra · 16/05/2014 18:28

I hadn't considered the app MammaTJ as I always use the desktop or mobile version. Is it really that hard though?

takeiteasybuttakeit · 16/05/2014 18:29

YABU for this

it's a bit like queue-jumping, which is just not British.

and YABU for being so bossy and for giving a toss

ComposHat · 16/05/2014 18:30

If it makes you happy being the AIBU vigilante feel free, but I imagine most of us couldn't give a fat rat's arse whether the post fits the strict AIBU criteria you've dreamed up.

If you don't want to read or post on a topic, or you feel it offends your delicate sensibilities, you are free to do what everyone else does and ignore it.

MardyBra · 16/05/2014 18:30

Ah takeit My poor DC had to witness me taking on a queue-jumper in a shop recently. It was a great example of how to make teenagers squirm.

OP posts:
candycoatedwaterdrops · 16/05/2014 18:31

Meh I wouldn't report but I do think that the poster must think themselves very important to require so much traffic for a trivial topic. Them again, surely that is the whole point if MN?!

MardyBra · 16/05/2014 18:34

OK, let's imagine what happens if everyone posts in aibu for extra traffic. It just becomes a list of inane trivia. In fact, it becomes something resembling netmums.

I don't want to hear about cake tins or moving to Surrey. And god forbid I should have to think about parenting. I mostly want daft threads in Chat or a bunfight in Aibu. Grrr.

OP posts:
grocklebox · 16/05/2014 18:34

Who gives a flying fuck? Well, we do, obviously do keep up dear

And since we are in the right (there are lots of topics, there to be used), and they are in the wrong the lazy fuckers we can say so whenever we like.
Whether you like it or not.

meditrina · 16/05/2014 18:36

I've been shouted at when I've pointed out threads which are woefully misplaced and/or duplicates of active existing threads.

I'm not hugely thread police though. And sometimes have been backed up by other posters (eg recently on Yet Another thread on a recent high profile death) {thanks y'all}

Ok, nothing can stop people posting what they like where they like and in any terms they like. But just as newbies bring in all sorts of twee language, they also show their ignorance by not understanding when it matters where you post.

KellyHopter · 16/05/2014 18:37

It's the effect of social media I think. Or if not an effect, another strand of the same mindset.
If something isn't being broadcast to as many viewers as possible then it's not worth it.
It's the inability to be measured, everything must be tabloid esque.

KellyHopter · 16/05/2014 18:40

Annoying too are the ones who don't even understand How to form a sentence which starts Am I being unreasonable...

Am I being unreasonable that bil called me pigdog?
Am I being unreasonable to not of being invited to of gone out with them?

That sort of thing.

MardyBra · 16/05/2014 18:44

At least they're having a go Kelly, bless 'em [patronising emoticon]. At least there might be a decent point there.

I get more annoyed by "aibu to ask you to recommend me a highchair". Yes, you are!

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 16/05/2014 18:47

I blame MNHQ for the 30 day rule, which means that you can't put anything in Chat that might be useful in the future. I don't report misplaced AIBUs but I do get unreasonably irritated by semantically confused thread titles.

"AIBU to ask you whether this green scarf suits me?" is very annoying and contrived but at least it makes sense
"AIBU that this woman asked to share my table in Costa?" is just gibberish

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 16/05/2014 18:48

Ah, X-post with kelly. Mardy and I appear to have opposing views on which sort of error is the wrong-er.

Mintyy · 16/05/2014 18:50

I had a thread the other week where lots of people posted saying that aibu threads should go after 90 days, chat ones could stay. If people want something to disappear, then post it in 30 days only.

HQ said they were listening.

Perhaps I should revive it?

MardyBra · 16/05/2014 18:51

Btw, I have reported my own OP to see if MNHQ would care to comment. Grin
