To ask about Sindy dolls?

Dd is asking working on me to get her a barbie doll. I'm afraid I really can't stand barbie and the way barbie dolls look.

Has anyone got an Sindy dolls? Are they nice and would you recommend them? Where could I buy some and which ones should I get?

Thanks!

OMFG!!

TheTerribleBaroness · 13/05/2014 16:17

But it's never been played with. That's so sad. :(

TillyTellTale · 13/05/2014 16:19

It was said there was going to be a relaunch of Sindy.

Did nothing come of it?

Charlieandlotta · 13/05/2014 19:42

Grin and Smile at all your responses! Thank you. Yes, yes I am aware that not getting barbie might backfire because dd already loves playing with the blasted thing when visiting friends. Actually, my dm never got me a barbie but an electric Playmobil train set, which I loved and I admit playing with Barbies at my best friend's house was a bit of a 'guilty pleasure' thing. I just think Barbie looks so cheap and nasty.

Anyone's dc ended up really liking the Lottie dolls?

To all the Sindy connoisseurs and lovers: if I got a couple of Sind(y)ies (??) from ebay, which ones should I get? Used, unused, which decade? Blush

Charlie I think I always quite liked the cheap and nasty look of Barbie Blush I am now a huge fan of kitsch which probably explains a lot...

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 13/05/2014 23:08

Loved that museum link, thanks roxy Grin

starlight1234 · 13/05/2014 23:19

Ohh I had ballerina Sindy for having an operation on my eye...

I agree with others depending on how much she wants Barbie...If you ask people most people always had that one gift they always wanted and never got. Mine was a baby alive..Next doors little girl had one a few years ago and despite having my own child still felt a pang of oooh I really wanted one of those.

My Ds wanted a DS for a birthday and 2 Christmas's before he got one..In the end nothing else was going to do

Dancergirl · 13/05/2014 23:24

roxyrobin thanks for the Sindy Museum link - I've been reminiscing! OMG, looking at the pictures I can almost see the wall of pink Sindy boxes in Fenwicks Brent Cross in the 80s!

Is it an actual museum you can visit or just a virtual thing?

OP, just buy her a Barbie! Adults way over-think the appropriate-ness of toys. Children don't think about body shapes, they just want a doll to dress and play with. Other factors are way more important in determining if your dd will have a good body image, YOUR own attitude for example.

Love the look of Lottie dolls though. Can I justify buying dd yet another doll? She has a load of my old Sindys (although with some Ebay finds), some Barbies and some bigger dolls - Gotz Hannah and older dds hand me down Les Cheries dolls. I love dolls!

Darkesteyes · 13/05/2014 23:31

I got ballerina Sindy in 1981. During the next couple of years I had the Sindy four poster bed, the writing bureau (which came with lots of fiddly bits like little notebooks and pens as Christmas or birthday presents. I remember buying her the wedding dress and a black ballgown evening type dress which came with a wrap. Does anyone remember this dress....black full skirt with gold small leafy bits in it.

The only thing I have left is the Sindy horse and cart still in its box...never played with. Does anyone remember what year they changed the colour and design of the boxes from pink to green. Green box with a white card in the corner with a picture of a cartoon Sindy walking.
I know I got the horse and cart one Christmas. Either in 1983 or 1984.

5madthings · 13/05/2014 23:35

I had Cindy dolls, my dd has two lottie dolls and she likes them, I know a few girls
Who have them and like them. We have the hottie horse/pony as well wwhich dd loves.

They were on offer on zuilily before Xmas.

Dancergirl · 13/05/2014 23:40

darkesteyes I think I remember the dress! And I had the writing bureau. It was cream with a fold down bit and a green and cream stool.

I had the big house which my mum and sister spent ages putting together and I gradually collected lots of furniture. The bedroom furniture - white wardrobe and dressing table with perfume bottle on it, kitchen stuff - wall oven, sink unit. And....the yellow/brown shower which actually WORKED! (After a fashion, more of a dribble really).

Happy, happy days.

RoxyRobin · 13/05/2014 23:41

Dancergirl - think it's just a virtual thing. Came across it when I was looking for a Sindy outfit for DSis' birthday (she'll be 57!). The dog-walking set was the first set she got so I hoped to buy that, but it went for £65 Shock on eBay - and fond as I am of her I couldn't justify that.

Darkesteyes · 13/05/2014 23:48

Dancer there is a picture of the writing bureau on this page. And the packaging was changed in 1983.

Darkesteyes · 13/05/2014 23:51

Yep Whats in that link sounds right The horse and cart is in a green and white striped box.

Dancergirl · 13/05/2014 23:54

Wow, I vaguely remember the packaging changing from pink to striped. All that time I used to spend admiring all the Sindy things while mum did the food shopping in Waitrose.....Smile

Dancergirl · 13/05/2014 23:57

The china cabinet!!!

And the cream dining table with all the tiny cutlery!!

The 'home' was the poor relation of the 'house', the former being 2 cardboard rectangles slotted together.

Dancergirl · 14/05/2014 00:10

I really want to buy a Lottie doll now for myself for dd. I love the Autumn leaves one.

happybubblebrain · 14/05/2014 00:29

We have a combination of Sindy dolls, Barbie, Blythe, Tankou, Monster High, Ever after High, Equestria girls, Barbie fairies, La De Da and quite a few others I don't even know the names of. Plus home-made houses, tons of Sindy furniture, home-made furniture, clothes, horses, motorbikes etc etc etc. Lots were bought from Ebay and carboot sales, some are my old toys, some are imports.

Dd likes her Ever after High doll the most.

When dd was really young I said I wasn't going to get any Barbie dolls - ha ha. I think I'm more into collecting and making things for them than she is.

When I was little Sindy was the Goody Twoshoes that got buried (repeatedly) in the garden. It wasn't me you understand, it was punk Barbie with her shorn hair and felt tip tattoos and her crazy eyed action man boyfriend.

Barbie always looked much better in action man clothes too.

ShelaghTurner · 14/05/2014 15:15

I was taken on a holiday to Cornwall by two aunts and an uncle and all I remember was pestering them mercilessly for a drum majorette Sindy. I haven't seen one for years, don't know what happened to mine (they gave in!). Finding this picture has made me just a little bit happy today :)

To ask about Sindy dolls?
Revengeofthechocolatebunny · 14/05/2014 16:46

I had Pippa dolls. For which my aunt and uncle bought me Sindy furniture.

It was like she was in the land of the Giants! Grin
