I have voted every time since I got the vote. One year I only just made it as Ds was born the next day and I went to hospital at 3 30 am. I will not be voting UKIP.

hazeyjane · 12/05/2014 19:01

Like others here, always vote and always take the dcs.

Will definitely not be voting Ukip, as Stewart Lee said,

That's like shitting in your hotel bed as a protest against bad service, then realising you've got to sleep in a shitted on bed.

HauntedNoddyCar · 12/05/2014 19:05

Have voted at every local, national and Euro election

Ploppy16 · 12/05/2014 19:06

I should add, I'm not voting for UKIP or the BNP, it's the other parties I'm going to be researching.

LtEveDallas · 12/05/2014 19:07

This is actually the first year that I will be voting myself, as my dad has always done a proxy vote for me (much easier if you are in the forces). He has thoroughly enjoyed having '2 votes' especially as we vote for the same party and my mum opposes!

He forgot that he wasn't doing it this time and said "you don't want to vote for those UKIP buggers do you?" So it's nice to know some of the elder generation (he's 84) haven't fallen for them.

katese11 · 12/05/2014 19:09

hope so...But we've just moved and our polling cards don't seem to have found us yet.

Last time I voted I was in labour. I'm pretty determined to vote.

EverythingsDozy · 12/05/2014 19:10

I always vote. Mainly because women fought for our vote and it seems a shame to waste it and take it for granted knowing that not that long ago, women didn't have that right. I know it's a bit of a stupid reason but at least I'm doing it!

Sirzy · 12/05/2014 19:11

Kate - you don't need to take your voting card, just go along in the day and they will find you on the list (assuming your registered to vote in the new area of course)

Leeds2 · 12/05/2014 19:14

We got our postal votes a couple of days ago.

Does anyone know if postal voting happens automatically, ie once you have opted to postal vote, you will always be sent the forms? I ask because DD will be eligible to vote soon, and I want her to go to a polling station at least once.

callamia · 12/05/2014 19:14

Absolutely. You're right to make the point though.
Don't vote, don't moan.

Leeds2 · 12/05/2014 19:14

Oops, I presume she won't have elected to postal vote anyway, even if OH and I have.

Linskibinski · 12/05/2014 19:16

I always vote. I figure if women chained themselves to railings, and threw themselves under horses for my right to vote the least I can do is get off my ass and vote! It offends me to the core when people say they never vote. It's a privilege and so very important. Smile Wine

SanityClause · 12/05/2014 19:17

I always vote.

nomorequotes · 12/05/2014 19:18

I will spoil my ballot, I always spoil my ballot.

cardibach · 12/05/2014 19:19

I always vote - and never for twats like UKIP.
It's DDs first vote this time and she is underwhelmed. I find this disappointing as I have always talked to her about going and the importance of using your vote, but I can sort of see where she is coming from. SHe'll be dragged up there anyway, though!

Yama · 12/05/2014 19:19

We always vote. We take the kids with us. A nice outing after dinner.

I don't feel that MN users are the type who couldn't be 'arsed' to put Jeremy Kyle on 'pause' and go and vote, and fortunately the JK viewers will be the UKIP 'voters'.

AnneElliott · 12/05/2014 19:20

I always vote. Can't understand women who don't, when you think of what our ancestors went through to get it for us.

Linskibinski · 12/05/2014 19:20

Love this pic, thanks ladies Smile

13Stitches · 12/05/2014 19:25

I've just done my postal vote - Green all the way.

I don't think they'll get far, but I don't agree with any of the others and anyone who thinks voting UKIP is a useful way of making a protest is deluded and shouldn't be allowed to participate.

I scrutinised the Green manifesto - agreed with every point.

evertonmint · 12/05/2014 19:27

I couldn't ever not turn up at the polling station. This is the closest I will have come to spoiling my vote I think, but I will probably end up voting for somebody specific. I live in a very traditional Tory area so my vote always feels like a futile protest, but there's a danger UKIP will get a lot of votes from some of the Tories switching so I will vote to be a counter to that, rather than out of strong conviction for one party over another IYSWIM.

I just don't get people who have strong views on politics but don't vote. Even if you don't want to vote for anyone, turn up, show you did, then spoil your ballot to show you hate them all. Much better than not turning up in the first place I think.

I understand people who don't vote and are completely apathetic more, although I bet they still have views on education, the NHS, potholes in roads etc...

GrassIsSinging · 12/05/2014 19:29

Always vote, and will do this time, if only as a protest vote against UKIP.

magimedi · 12/05/2014 19:35

Always vote - have never failed to vote in the (nearly) 42 years I've been able to vote.

If you don't vote, you can't moan.

People who don't vote should be................... punished in some way, is all I can say politely.

Quoteunquote · 12/05/2014 19:36

Having lived under military rule, I cannot believe anyone is stupid enough not to vote, even if you don't like any of the candidates at least go and spoil you paper draw a rude picture or anything, but not voting, is not joined up thinking.
