Ok, apologies in advance if this becomes a big bun fight but I'm genuinely interested. I have lost faith in all major political parties, read their manifestos and decided they're all as mad as a box of frogs. Don't want to not vote because I believe everyone who can should as recognition for living in a democracy. But who the hell should I vote for?

Green. I feel like they're the only ones really standing for something rather than grandstanding and being a career politician and their social policies are the most in line with my personal values

Damnautocorrect · 12/05/2014 08:32

those voting ukip to make a point, please do have a look at the NHA (national health action)
I don't think they've been mentioned and they seem to make alot of sense, they are also barely getting any press coverage it's all ukip ukip ukip.
I spoilt my last vote in protest, this time it will be NHA

Panwearsrosa · 12/05/2014 09:16

@NHAParty is active on twitter and is standing in London for the Euro elections, I think.

Fleta · 12/05/2014 09:25

Conservative here because I have a huge amount of time for the candidate.

Those voting UKIP to "piss off the big three" - a far, far more valid protest is to spoil your ballot, rather than potentially voting in a set of racist berks

Retropear · 12/05/2014 09:30

And the lovely caring Conservatives would love that wouldn't they.Grin

Retropear · 12/05/2014 09:31

Damn is that NHS party standing nationwide?

typedup · 12/05/2014 09:38

I tried the 'who should I vote for' site (bit basic) and it came back equal shares for Con/Lab/Lib/Green - which probably reflects my thinking (that none of them appeal that much). However my actual vote was made in the context of the seat and the fact that one party gets such a large amount of the vote and I wanted to vote 'against' them.

And lovely caring UKIP is the way to go?

Splendid

And yes,

m.voterpower.org.uk/

is highly depressing reading for those of us in 'ultra safe' seats.

I sound like Edward and Tubbs.........

You've got to think UKIP would do well in Royston Vasey....a local party for local people

Damnautocorrect · 12/05/2014 10:44

Retro, they are standing in some local and the European nhap.org/local-council-candidates/
They are do appear to be talking a lot of sense and uncovering a lot of 'interesting' facts. They are getting bugger all coverage though.

Retropear · 12/05/2014 10:48

Don't seem to have one in our area Sad which leaves Green(a throw away vote in our area) or Ukip. The big 3 will not get getting my vote.

The only challenge to Conservative(who are v strong in our area)is Ukip.

Damnautocorrect · 12/05/2014 10:57

Another option is to spoil your paper. But I can see why this doesn't feel like a strong enough action.
I am a big green fan as well, but it does feel like there isn't actually a party who offers 'it all' and is a truly viable option

MrsBlackthorn · 12/05/2014 11:09

A spoiled ballot really is a wasted vote. There isn't even a legal obligation to report numbers of spoiled ballots (most returning officers do, but they're not obliged to).

Damnautocorrect · 12/05/2014 11:29

I do agree that its a waste, but if you feel there's no alternative to the big three liars . Imagine if ukip get in power because everyone wanted to make an (understandable) point.

GoblinLittleOwl · 12/05/2014 12:01

For the local elections, if you genuinely don't know, choose the candidate who has done the most for your area, irrespective of party, and choose somebody local, not someone who simply wants to improve his CV. And if you could choose a woman, so much the better; they are poorly represented on local councils.
