Anybody have them? I really really want one... Just don't imagine how much a proper one costs. There such a variety of prices

I have one. I use it for the school run and the getting from the station to the office bit of my commute. They've become much more popular in the last few months and I'm no longer the only person on the train with one.

It came from toys r us and cost about £60.

I have a Micro Flex and love it madly. It's a comfy, quiet ride, fairly forgiving on bumpy bits of pavement, brilliant for cruising down a gentle incline. I think they are about £100.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 08/05/2014 21:49

this is reassuring, I used 9yo dd's scooter for the school run today and was worried I might look a twat.

kaffkooks · 08/05/2014 21:53

My MIL (aged 65) bought an adult scooter so as she could keep up with her grandchildren when they were using theirs. She loves it. She has had a few comments, particularly when she uses it to get to church on a Sunday when she doesn't even have and grandchildren with her. She bought it online but don't know website. I am seriously considering buying one as my husband and I both love using hers!

DMCWelshCakes · 08/05/2014 21:56

Vampyre - I may well look like a twat (particularly when doing the business suit and airwalks/scooter combo) but I'm having far too much fun to care! Grin

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 08/05/2014 21:57

I know what you mean DMC, it's a better way of getting around than walking!

feathermucker · 09/05/2014 03:51

I so want one of these! My DS has a proper stunt one and I'd love to be able to keep up Grin

paxtecum · 09/05/2014 06:00

There are some available with big wheels, which probably means that I would less likely to fly through the air and land on my head.
I'm 60+ and want one when I retire.

chickenwire · 09/05/2014 06:05

I was thinking about getting one for my commute but very worried about how easy it'd be to land hard on your face if the front wheel hit a bump. DH is medical and sees a not insignificant number of children who are seriously injured from it.

TiggyD · 09/05/2014 09:20

It's like crime in a multi-story car park. Wrong on so many levels. [Tim Vine]

No, no, no.

Next people will start wearing nappies because they envy children's ability to go to loo whenever they want.

Just say NO to adult scooters.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 09/05/2014 09:31

I'm disabled and walking is getting increasingly difficult, was thinking of getting one but may very well end up arse over tit and in a worse position than I began in!

Latara · 09/05/2014 09:46

One of the Physios at work has a Scooter; but he's the kind of lad I could imagine on a skateboard.

WhateverHappenedToJasonStyles · 09/05/2014 10:03

You need some quad skates Grin

Swifty scooters look like bikes with no pedals or seat.

Damnautocorrect · 09/05/2014 10:14

Micro do adult ones. They also do ones with suitcases on the front (genius!) for your stuff

DrainPhobic · 09/05/2014 10:24

If you do get one, please be considerate to people who are walking on the pavement. Don't fly past them with millimetres of clearance like the twats who ride bicycles on pavements do. Sorry to be such a killjoy, but pavements are meant for walking really.

DrainPhobic · 09/05/2014 10:46

Or get a bell or horn of some kind Grin

gotthemoononastick · 09/05/2014 10:51

I am in my 60's and have a silver one!So fab for getting around on.Don't give a fig what other people think about it.

Do get top of the range...because you are worth it!!

A few parents at school have them. A good way of keeping up with the Dcs when they go flying off on their scooters at high speed.

I quite fancy one!

Theodorous · 09/05/2014 11:12

Yuck yuck yuck, almost as gut wrenchingly clingy as those bikes with kids being towed on them, grow up, it is pathetic not cutesy

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 09/05/2014 11:16

I don't think anyone is trying to be cute, just get around faster.

My dh has a hudora big wheel, it's great.

Stripytop · 09/05/2014 11:20

I saw a women on a scooter the other day. I was kind of envious but embarrassed for her at the same time.

I would probably fall off. Grin

HighwayDragon · 09/05/2014 11:22

I love mine, its quick, easy to use, you can collapse it when you get in on the train, theres no faff getting bike locks, easier on the legs. Oh and I feel like a small child on it, and that feeling alone is awesome

CaurnieBred · 09/05/2014 11:25

I have one - it is great for coming back from the pub after a night out - especially as it is all downhill to where I live. It is hard work though - the kids make it seem so easy, but I have to keep changing legs. I tend to use mine on the road rather than the pavement as there are less bumps there. I got mine from Lidl about 2 years ago.

DD(9) used to be cool with it but now I'm not allowed to use mine when she is on hers as it is too embarrassing.

DMCWelshCakes · 09/05/2014 17:52

It's halved the amount of time it takes me to get from station to office. It's the main reason I got it. I'm too scared to cycle in central London as so many cyclists end up dead.
