Can an Ikea sofa really be worth that money, given that most of their sofas are an awful lot cheaper?

No it can't! YABU! Buy a £150 sofa and send me the rest of the money immediately Grin
OR if you have £1000 to spend, and love the sofa, and it is well made and will last, it doesn't matter where it's from, buy it and enjoy it!

Geraldthegiraffe · 07/05/2014 23:01

We have an amaizng ikea corner sofa. However we got the sofa much cheaper on ebay and just replaced the covers...

SweetPenelope · 07/05/2014 23:15

You can get really good second hand sofas on eBay. I don't think anything from IKEA could be worth £1,000.

CointreauVersial · 07/05/2014 23:20

IKEA do a "posh" range, where the items are better-crafted, with higher quality materials (is it called Stockholm, or am I imagining it?).

We were very tempted by a leather sofa from this range - it was absolutely gorgeous, and well worth the money.

KenAdams · 07/05/2014 23:22

Ikeas more expensive range is very good, go for it.

Waltonswatcher1 · 07/05/2014 23:22

Ikea ...love it . Does this swanky sofa come with a free Allen key?

Fishstix · 07/05/2014 23:25

We've had their cheapy Kipplan sofa for 12 years, it's seen us through two kids and a myriad of house moves and is still solid as a rock and lovey and cosy.... If those standards are anything to go by I'd say its a worthwhile investment!

Mintyy · 07/05/2014 23:27

Yes, its this one in bright green velvet. The picture doesn't do it justice, it really is bright green, like a frozen pea.

expensive sofa

Looks quite similar to the shit stuff they sell TBH.

SweetPeaPods · 08/05/2014 00:04

I'm not sure why there is a difference in price depending on the colour?
If you like it and can afford it then buy it. Who cares where it's from. They might judge the colour choice though!

BOFster · 08/05/2014 00:40

It looks very nice, I like it. I think I'd prefer a vintage chesterfield or something though. That said, you've got to assume that anything secondhand is too knackered for the original owners to enjoy sitting on.

I'm assuming you will be banning felt-tips, drinks and food? Grin

Dumpylump · 08/05/2014 00:57

I've seen it in real life, and thought it was lovely! The colour is great - where would you put it op, and how is that room decorated?

DogCalledRudis · 08/05/2014 01:37

Yabu. It is not worth it.

Monty27 · 08/05/2014 01:42

It's very attractive and I love the colour, however, I'd rather spend that on somewhere more reputable tbh... in a sale Grin as I always do, like John Lewis or M&S even, proper stuff :)

MsAspreyDiamonds · 08/05/2014 02:02

I would spend that amount on a sofa from Heals or Habitat in the sales tbh. Wait another month & all the mid season sales should be starting.

WaitMonkey · 08/05/2014 06:29

Link doesn't work on my phone. What's it called ?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 08/05/2014 06:44

Chesterfields, vintage or not aren't comfy!

I can't see the link but ikea is good quality.

SizzlesSit · 08/05/2014 07:12

We bought a sofa from ikea which struck us as very expensive (cant remember but over 500€). DH wasnt keen as its ikea but I insisted and its bloody fantastic! Sooooo comfortable. Everyone chooses that one first over a posh (also v comfortable) one which we bought pre-DC and cost 3 times as much as the ikea one

BOFster · 08/05/2014 08:22

Fair enough, Dame, I can't say I've ever sat on one Smile

If it's comfy, go for it - Ikea's quality is good at that price point. Although I would take a look at John Lewis too - their Home range is very reasonable and comfy too.

Mintyy · 08/05/2014 08:39

I did go to John Lewis too yesterday Wilson, and couldn't find one I liked.

I feel completely in love with a vintage-looking mint green velvet sofa in Liberty at Christmas. But that was £3000 so I can dream on with that one Grin.

We've had cheap Klippan sofas for over 10 years now too. I think Ikea is good value for the price.

I'm finally getting a new sofa as we've finished our lounge. I've bought it from Love Your Home For Less. No idea what the quality is like though do I'm a bit nervous!
