Can an Ikea sofa really be worth that money, given that most of their sofas are an awful lot cheaper?

My dad has just ordered 2 and they come with 10 year guarantees which is more than the likes of other major retailers offer.

Joysmum · 08/05/2014 08:46

...oh and ikea aren't likely to go bust and invalidate your guarantee which many retailer do.

BOF - we have one, it's now considered vintage Wink and it's lovely IF you want to sit bolt upright, anything else and you slide off and get neck crick Grin

I like the look of it but can't imagine getting really comfortable on it. I got a bargain just before Christmas - a large and a medium sofa from Debenhams in a grey 'velvetty' material which are just fabulous. They were half price, plus I found an online code so paid around 850 quid for the pair!

I know that sofa and fell in love with it on sight! Couldn't get it as it doesn't seem to disassemble and it won't fit up the stairs.

Buy it!

It doesn't look terribly comfy.

But then I like my big squishy sofa that makes me want to fall asleep when I lie on it...

TheFairyCaravan · 08/05/2014 12:31

We bought our sofa from Nabru. It is the comfiest thing ever and was ridiculously cheap.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 08/05/2014 12:39

It is beautiful. I have been lusting after the chair in the same fabric (only yellow Grin
Think of it this way;something like a sofa, (or living room rug, or curtains), you look at every day. Sometimes for hours! The things you surround yourself daily with should, if possible, actively make you feel happy.
Buy it.

Have a good slouch about on it, I was in Ikea recently and an assistant there told me someone had just returned a Stockholm sofa as they weren't finding it comfy enough.

Do you have small children? If so, seriously consider, however well-behaved they might be, if they are likely to make it grubby/stand on it/bounce on it etc. We recently bought 2 small John Lewis sofas off eBay - including the cost of hiring a van to pick them up, they cost us £250. Friend came round the other day (better off than me, redecorates her house all the flipping time, looks like something from a magazine) and gushed at how lovely our new sofas were. I smiled and didn't let on that they were secondhand...

(We plan to spend on "decent" sofas when the kids are past the primary/young teenage years and spend more time out with friends or in their room than on the sofa!)
