Its estimated that the cost will go up 17% by 2020. Something needs to change or the NHS will collapse.

Maybe make people that are overweight pay something towards their treatment would in courage people to eat better and exercise more.

but have T2 diabetes as a result of developing PCOS

I'm a carer for my disabled husband and mentally ill daughter, so am on benefits. Ner ner

Is that really something to be saying ner ner about? Hmm

Should I say lucky you?

Dreamer789 · 06/05/2014 14:44

OP, you have a couple of "interesting" threads running today. Are you quite alright?

Maybe she is sick of seeing fat gits at work who won't cut down on fatty food and just sit in front of TV all day?

SilverDragonfly1 · 06/05/2014 14:45

Aw, thanks sillybilly. I don't actually feel guilty about it in that way, just felt like being as childish as the OP for a moment :D Ironically, my blood sugar was a bit low at that point- had lunch now.

Ubik as someone else mentioned if your dad is in the UK he shouldn't be paying for his meds. In fact, diabetics are exempt from charges on any prescription (oh dear OP, more and more terrible!).

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 06/05/2014 14:45

Also my grandmother was diabetic. She died at 50. She spent 30 years of her life working for the health service as a nurse and matron, including at a military hospital in the middle east in WW2.

So fuck off.

SilverDragonfly1 · 06/05/2014 14:45

Dreamer irony is a thing.

turgiday · 06/05/2014 14:47

My family are all thin and most have type 2 diabetes. Mind you some of them have been smokers in the past. so maybe they should pay extra?

My mum has been pretty sporty in the past and has lots of issues with old sports injuries. Totally self inflicted. yes she should pay more too.

And what about my friend who has a genetic disability but has a daughter. she should pay for her daughters medical treatment as that was totally self inflicted.

My friends sister who had skin cancer after a lifetime of using sun beds, totally self inflicted.

Blimey at this rate, hardly anyone will not have to pay more.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 06/05/2014 14:47

Dreamer you are a card Grin

Lauranda · 06/05/2014 14:47

Wow, spot on! Nobody wants to take responsibility for their own health, just want the government to provide a magic pill.

OP posts:
BigBirdFlies · 06/05/2014 14:47

I know plenty of very slim people with type 2 diabetes.

A major risk factor is ageing.

angelos02 · 06/05/2014 14:48

I drink too much alcohol than is good for me but I also work full time and pay loads in tax. Should the teetotal non-smoker that has never worked a day in their life be ahead of me in the queue for NHS help?

expatinscotland · 06/05/2014 14:49

'Wow, spot on! Nobody wants to take responsibility for their own health, just want the government to provide a magic pill.'

And so what about those who do, live so damn long they get dementia, which is very expensive to deal with? Logan's run then?

turgiday · 06/05/2014 14:49

angelos - Maybe we should have a points system? So you get extra points for working, but lose points for drinking too much alcohol.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 06/05/2014 14:50

When you get RSI in your hand from too much posting shite typing, will you contribute to your treatment as well then?

SilverDragonfly1 · 06/05/2014 14:51

Dreamer apologies if you weren't snarking there. I'm up to my eyes in centimetre thick forms trying to get some financial help for DD and this really isn't a good day to be told yet again about how disabled people are the reason for all the problems of the economy, along with their conspirators the dreaded Poors.

ReallyTired · 06/05/2014 14:51

Asians have a pre disposition to developing T2 types so would charging for treatment of T2 diabetes be racist as it woudl be a tax on coming from the Indian sub continent.

How can you prove than ailment like cataracts was caused by diabetes?

Ill thought out.

expatinscotland · 06/05/2014 14:51

'A major risk factor is ageing.'

And certain ethnicities, black people, for example, are more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than white people.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 06/05/2014 14:54

Really? Just really?

Where the hell would you draw the line - should we make certain cancer sufferers pay for their chemo if the doctors think lifestyle could have contributed............overweight...drinkers........depressed.....should they all pay for various treatments.

So ridiculous! What about accidents - should we make people pay for their own treatment if they have a silly accident which could have been prevented?

Crumbs, lets hope you never have to pay for your own treatment, will take even longer to save up for a house hey!

IceBeing · 06/05/2014 14:56

oh oh ohhhhh I want a points system!

I would have a bronze medal for not drinking (non-drinker now but had some wild teenage times)

I would have a gold medal for not smoking at any point in my life.

I would have a silver medal for avoiding ridiculous joint damaging sports (with the exception of my badminton habit)

AND I would have a gold medal with BOOBS on for breast feeding for 3 years.

turgiday · 06/05/2014 14:56

What about those working very long hours who get ill because of the stress? I know a couple of men who have had heart attcaks because of this. Should they pay extra too?

angelos02 · 06/05/2014 14:57

turgiday a points system would be impossible to administer. What if I stop drinking tomorrow and jack my job in at the same time?

turgiday · 06/05/2014 14:57

angelos - Sorry, it was a joke. Of course it would be both unworkable and unethical.

wheresthelight · 06/05/2014 15:01

Laura I have a form of to diabetes and it is not self inflicted and neither is the fact I am overweight. I have a condition that means despite dieting, eating healthy and exercising when am able to I cannot lose weight and even if I was a size 0 I would still have the condition and still have the form of diabetes.

I cam only assume your school is on an inset day and hollyoaks hasn't started yet

IceBeing · 06/05/2014 15:03

hmm I would definitely not get an 'avoiding work related stress' medal...or if I did it would be a brown gangreeny sort of colour to indicate what a burden I was being to the NHS....

Joules68 · 06/05/2014 15:03

We'll the government have tried early intervention with school kids but it seems parents don't want to know

They get the 'your child is overweight' letter and come here to be told ignore it!

Lauranda · 06/05/2014 15:05

Exactly joules, they have been trying the carrot method for decades. Time for a bit more stick, and I work in a caring job. Sometimes you've got to be hard on people.
