Jurassic park.

My grandfather, so DS great grandfather bought us all 3 Jurassic park films. I mentioned in passing I wanted to see them and DS likes dinosaurs so I know why he's brought them. My DS is 4 so he shall not be watching them too gory. But grandfather says I'm being over protective not letting him watch them, and he saw wise than that when that age (world war 2)

They say PG on them, what she would you allow a child to watch them?

FWIW DS2 watched one when he was five (I'd forgotten the dodgy bits) and was very taken with the dino grabbing the guy on the pot

I didn't let dd watch the one where the T-Rex looks through a child's window for ages. Couldn't have done with the midnight dramatics that would undoubtedly have ensued.

My ds is 4 and loves them. Hes a dino fanatic. Terrified of some bits of puss in boots though.

My 5 year old dd is a huge dinosaur fan but I will not let her watch those films because I know that with her it will result in months and months of being unsettled and scared, that's just the way her mind works.

The other day my dad asked if she had seen them and I replied that she had not because I didn't feel they were suitable. So he started talking to dd about them . I cut in and asked him not to as I didn't want to have to explain to dd why they were unsuitable. So the twat turned round and starts going "never mind dd, when you are older you can watch......" . I cut in again, asked him again not to talk to her about them and he went off in a sulk after yelling "I have not said anything about them to her!" .

I might sound a bit precious about them but dd's mind is a very odd place and works in mysterious ways. She can merrily watch other films that have her older brother hiding behind his hands (he is a wimp though) but other things really unsettle her. Her teacher last term did a great thing on dinosaurs where they reared some "dinosaur eggs" in class which promptly hatched overnight and escaped. Several months after the escape dd is still genuinely concerned about the welfare of the herbivores and worried about the carnivores being on the loose. Can you imagine what she'd be like watching something as "real" as jurassic park?

God I let DS watch them at 2 and he just run off at the bad bits! Clearly not a good example to follow by the sounds of this thread

I didn't let my 3.5yo watch it the other day. I think it's quite frightening when they are being chased.

My two watched them at 4 and 5 and were fine

It's one of my dds fave films. She's been watching it since about 2 (3.5 now) but she's not the type to get scared by things like that

I can't watch them without hiding behind my hands and I am thirty two. The velociraptors in the kitchen scene and the T. Rex by the car scenes in particular.

My DS (4) would be ok with them, but DD (9) would have nightmares for weeks after watching them just like I do .

Gave me nightmares watching them as a child. Still have dreams of being chased by a T-Rex or it looking in my window. So I wouldn't let either of my kids watch it and I've a eight year old boy and five year old girl.

Totally depends on the child. Ds3 is 5 and is fine watching them, ds2 is 8 and terrified.

Depends on the child, my boys were older when they saw them but dd is three and has seen them, she is dinosaur mad and loves them!

I watched it when I was 7 and the only thing that bugged me was the severed arm in the switch room. I never got nightmares about it though. Then I watched the old 1960's godzilla and was terrified of him stepping through the roof of my house and wouldn't sleep alone for almost a good year. After that, my parents didn't let me watch any scary movies until I was 11.

It depends on your child and how sensitive they are.

You know your child best, of you don't think they should watch it then that's that.

kissmy my ds4 just six also loves Jurassic park and the jaws films, but he is terrified of Elmo goes to grouchland! Go figure!

My youngest was 4 when he first saw them. I talked to him before about the sort of scary stuff that would come up and said he could turn them off at any time.

Turned out he's a bloodthirsty beast and cheers for the dinosaurs.

Try it, remote at the ready, to zap or mute any dodgy bits. I bet he will adore it!

My ds's first saw JP a couple of weeks ago, aged 4 and 6.

Ds1 (a very 'old soul') sat there shaking his head, tutting and saying things like 'that is so sad, that poor man'.

Ds2 however was screeching 'YESSS! He got another one! He Bit him right in the middle, whoooo!' and doing a victory dance every time a dino got someone.

Ds1 has watched the first one - he was probably 5/6. He was OK with it. I wasn't sure but DH put it on while I was out.

I would let my dd(age5) watch if I thought she could handle it, I am a self confessed horror/gore fan but when I was 5 yrs old I was petrifyed of the old b/w king kong movie and dr who, I think the chase scenes are pretty intense and scary in JP so maybe next year or the year after , when she is a bit more able to understand that it is just a movie. My ds was 4 or 5 when it came out at cinema there was no way he could have gone to see it then, it was really scary in there, the sound was amazing! there were lots of little ones watching it though and lots coming out crying or having to be taken out during the film.
