To think "this thread has been deleted at the OP's request to protect privacy" is being overused?

"This thread has been deleted at the OP's request. (We don't normally delete whole threads but we will do so when it is to protect a poster's privacy.)"

Don't get me wrong, I know there are circumstances where there's genuine threat to privacy BUT I've seen some threads where the OP is clearly not happy with the way their thread is going and surprise surprise, it's deleted with the above message.

I think HQ should lock the thread instead of deleting it unless privacy is genuinely a problem.

Who gives out identifying details anyway? Do they not realise that this can be read by anyone in the world? Hmm

I think what they mean is "I've made a fool of myself under my regular posting name and I don't want other posters to see it".

When I have a glaringly embarrassing spelling mistake, I do wish we could edit on there!

Yes, that's not a bad idea usual, for spelling errors etc? How long would it be? A minute?

manicinsomniac · 02/05/2014 17:29

Yes candy this was a support forum too (kind of). But one of its boards was comparable to AIBU (the whole point was to rant and be nasty to people!) and that got hilarious. You could also post anonymously.

I used the edit feature for typos and spelling mistakes more than anything else. I wish we had it here for that reason.

manicinsomniac · 02/05/2014 17:30

oooh, that's an amazing idea usual!

candycoatedwaterdrops · 02/05/2014 17:31

Was it called Flameland by any chance?!

I'd quite like to have a quote function. It's irritating when someone says that agree with what Bob28 says and you have to scroll through the thread just in case Bob28 has said something ground breaking.

I think people should be able to get their thread deleted if they want to

Mintyy · 02/05/2014 18:40

NO!?

candycoatedwaterdrops · 02/05/2014 18:45

That thread was a stark reminder why we should never take medical advice online as anything other than meaningless chat.
