To ask who you plan to vote for and why?

Reading the UKIP threads on here etc its a hot topic of discussion and maybe some people are like me and aren't entirely educated on what each party offers / doesn't and would be interested in reading some views?

DH says Green Party would literally be a wasted vote, and everyone else with a chance is pretty much as bad as each other.

Embarrassed as I am at my lack of political knowledge, I thought others may feel the same and find a thread like this helpful

I think some of the smaller parties are a bit "niche"

I think labour fucked up when they were in power and I don't think the Tories have had long enough...although I don't agree with all their polices in any way

Last year there was a quiz thing were you voted for the policies without knowing which party supported each policy...I think I came out a quarter green, quarter labour and half Tory

I'll vote Labour. It all boils down to EU for me. My DH is an EU immigrant and I'm scared of the repercussions for our family and his status here if Britain pulls out of the EU. I think a Labour vote is the best way to avoid this.

BitOut... As someone who counts votes at every election, we enjoy spoiled ballots! If only more people knew they were a valid option. Some of them with 'fuck off' scrawled across them in crayon really make us smile.

I'm English, but I live in Scotland.
I'll be voting SNP.
(And also voting yes in the referendum. If Scotland becomes independant, I'll then vote Labour).

I'd rather eat my own eyeballs than vote UKIP or Tory.

I disagree with this notion of a 'wasted vote'.
Generations of working people fought for our right to vote, and the only way it is 'wasted' is when folks fail to turn out at all.
Your 'X' in the box may not make much difference in some constituencies, but it's far from wasted.

I wish I knew - I don't trust Labour not to run the country into the ground, can't trust Lib Dems to keep a single promise, and the way the government is demonising people on benefits makes me feel sick so that's the Tories out. I refuse to vote for the racist or misogynistic so UKIP are a no go. Maybe we have an independent or Green candidate...

What's really annoyed me is that in my seat and two other friends in totally different areas, UKIP are the only buggers bothering to deliver leaflets! I wouldn't vote for them in a million years but they're the only ones who seem to be aware of voters at all at the moment. No wonder they're gathering racist, homophobic, sexist, ableist steam

Labour - albeit very begrudgingly - I could hit that insipid Ed Milliband who seems to stand for nothing at all and not have much of consequence to say about anything. I think he'd be good as a Politics lecturer at Uni but as leader of the Labour party he is abyssmal. After being a lifelong Labour voter I can honestly say now, I don't know what the hell they stand for. At least with the smarmy Blair, you knew mostly what he was about. Milliband and his crew are afraid to put their heads above the parapet, people pleasers who are scared to move one way or the other for fear of 'missing' who they should please first, their jobs, ministerial cars and expenses claims coming before all of that, of course.

Actually I was thinking of voting Green and may well decide to do so, their policies are a lot more in tune with my thinking

Salazar there have been occasions in local elections when my choice has been Tory or UKIP - and so I've added a third box, labelled it 'None of the Above' and used that one.

I may get more creative next time happens, just to entertain those who are heroically doing the vote counting.

And thanks for saying I'm not pesky. If anyone from UKIP approaches me on the street I may prove you wrong, though.

In my area I never see a labour leaflet, it's mostly UKIP with some Tory and lib dem thrown in

We only ever see the UKIP guy as well, he is always at the bank holiday Farris, st George's day parade etc

Friends of us who voted for him (and wouldn't do it again) said it was because they admired his work ethic

Ugh so the test thing is useless, I got 29% Conservative (almost entirely due to agreeing with them economically), 27% Labour and 24% Lib Dem.

As grovel says - I think I'll have to vote Conservative in the EU elections as they're closest aligned to my way of thinking on Europe but goodness knows what to do for the General Election...

Are vote counters obliged to read spoilt papers, or just to scan them to confirm that they're spoilt?

Because if I'm still undecided I could well be tempted into an essay. Or a set of jokes about cheese.

Fatal. The counter will come across the vote, chuckle to themselves, and pass it on to 'higher powers' which is just to confirm that the spoiled ballot isn't a misread vote. Ie, a squiggle might be near a box, so it needs to be checked. An essay would be rather unambiguous, but it needs to be checked too!
