Is my child the only one who never has any of the following in her lunchbox:

hummus/hummous
chorizo (have no idea how you pronounce it)
smoked salmon trimmings
a spinach cake
homemade pear and ginger muffin
guacamole
bagel with pastrami & smoked cheese
Cous cous
minted lamb

any kind of fruit, veg or salad

Please tell me that there are MNetters who send their children to school with a cheese sandwich on white bread, a frube and a Penguin?

And squash (the drink not the veg).

My two dgs have [every day] one tuna sandwich, one Marmite sandwich, a little pot of cucumber and tomato and a little pot of grapes. They sometimes have a flapjack as well. There is no variety at all but at least they eat it all.

ForLyingWitch Gerald and Paperclip

Bake one potato and one sweet potato (left overs or microwave for speed) and scoop out the middles. Defrost about 5 squares of frozen spinach and mix into the potato, then grate in a big lump of mature cheddar - about four Babybels worth. Oil tart or muffin tins, scoop the mixture in and cook at Mk6 for 20 min to half an hour - I do longer for my DCs as they like the crispy outside.

I do similar with broccoli, beaten egg, breadcrumbs and cheese. Even my friend's incredibly fussy 4 year old loves these.

I also make little quiches with smoked salmon and spinach.

ZingWatermelon · 01/05/2014 12:35

Need

that sounds gorgeous.
send me some please, I'm too tired to cook.
Smile

NeedAdvice2014 · 01/05/2014 13:07

On their way Zing. I could send some sugar free sweet potato scones too, for extra worthiness and a whole other veg portion? Smile

Ev1lEdna · 01/05/2014 13:10

Smoked salmon trimming feature in my cooking a lot. Including the dc's favourite tea- hot cooked pasta, hot cooked peas, smoked salmon trimmings and a tub of Philadelphia(or own brand equivalent).Black pepper. Seriously delicious. A squirt of sweet chill sauce if you feel so inclined. In the door to on the table in 15 minutes max.

I do something like that for mine Smile

They are great for salmon pate/dip too; tinned salmon, low fat soft cheese (or Quark for really low fat) smoked salmon trimmings, lemon juice, dill and I add a couple of pinches of cayenne pepper. Great with raw veggies or whatever kettlechips

Ev1lEdna · 01/05/2014 13:11

NeedAdvice I am going to try those they sound good (and easy!)

Ev1lEdna · 01/05/2014 13:13

I do wonder why people put 'homemade' this, 'homemade' that on some threads.

On these threads because mostly I don't put homemade in the lunchbox, so on the (unfortunately) rare occasion I do I like to brag about it Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/05/2014 13:14

NeedAdvice... Ahh so it's like 'potato skins' then? I love those even more than Frittata. Thank you! Grin

I'm also going to try the salmon pasta. Couldn't face it with tuna but salmon 'sounds' right.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/05/2014 13:15

I really like Quark too. The only place I've seen that recently is Morrisons.

Ev1lEdna · 01/05/2014 13:18

I forgot to say about the pate that you blend it all (handblender)

Lyingwitch (great name) I have seen Quark in Tesco too - byt the cottage cheese.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/05/2014 13:31

Oh have you,Ev1lEdna, I'm going tomorrow, I'll look out for it.

Thanks for the compliment (not an original name apparently). I truly love Evil Edna, Willo The Wisp is one of my all-time favourite cartoons.

HavannaSlife · 01/05/2014 13:32

The pate and potato fillings both sound lovely!

ZingWatermelon · 01/05/2014 13:32

yes please Need
you are spoiling me!Smile

QueenofallIsee · 01/05/2014 15:49

My primary aged kids have lunch box content that would HORRIFY many mumsnetters.

Ham/Jam/Nutella/Cheese on 50/50 bread - they will not eat wholemeal these days though they did as tots. I let them pick what they want on their sandwich quite often
Carton of squash
frube yoghurt jobbie
babybel
box raisins
milkyway/similar
apple/plum/banana - this will usually just come home again

I cringe at the lunchbox threads - I just know my kids are the kids being mentioned with the terrible contents. But I want them to eat it, not show off with it!

Ev1lEdna · 01/05/2014 16:04

Queen it doesn't horrify me AT ALL in fact I think you do better than me.

desertmum · 01/05/2014 16:06

when my kids were at primary school I was the 'cool' mum who stopped at Subway on the way and got them each a 6 inch Sub when I had run out of snack box food - they loved them! I didn't do it every day obviously, but all their friends were really envious as they ate their carrot sticks and stuff. Hangs head in shame.

desertmum · 01/05/2014 16:08

Can you do that without the sweet potato and just use two normal ones Eve 1?

elliejjtiny · 01/05/2014 16:16

DS2 has a sandwich on white bread, crisps, banana, yoghurt and pepperami and a fruit shoot. DS1 has the same but more fruit. That's just when they are on school trips though, normally they have school dinners. No lunchbox police here.

NeedAdvice2014 · 01/05/2014 16:32

What is Quark and what do you do with it?

Desertmum originally it was just normal potato but I was trying to add extra veg. Sweet potato does make it sloppier, it holds together better without.

ZingWatermelon · 01/05/2014 16:34

Quark is fat free cream cheese (type thing) and is actually quite nice.

NoImSpartacus · 01/05/2014 16:45

Loving all the people coming on and being honest about what they give their kids in the packed lunches, gives me a warm feeling inside it does. And I'm not referring to the boasters!

TheRealAmandaClarke · 01/05/2014 16:53

Love smoked salmon.
I wish I could get the dcs to eat it because it's so convenient to use IMHO.

Kissmequick123 · 01/05/2014 17:10

My kids would love a penguin, white bread cheese sandwich and a frube but we never really have any of those items in the kitchen cupboards (with the exception of cheese)

mathanxiety · 01/05/2014 17:25

Today DD4 sallied forth with a ham sammy, a cereal bar, and a chunk of a white chocolate Easter bunny she partly demolished last night (it had fallen under her bed at Easter and she had been accusing DD3 of eating it until about 8.15 pm yesterday Smile). Plus a bottle of water.

The bread is called whole wheat bread but it looks and feels like a sliced white loaf.

I got the flasks being discussed in Aldi in the Aisle o' Crap last year! I also got DD2 her university dorm bed extra long fitted sheets and pillowslip set for far less than they were selling elsewhere. Nice purple microfibre, vair stylish. Plus a surprisingly healthy small rosebush.

ZingWatermelon · 01/05/2014 17:54

Ams

as long as you don't scoff it out of the packet before paying for it!Grin
