She is Oxford educated and fluent in three languages - just saying!

He does, seem politically minded. He does a lot of work for Dafur, even funding a satellite to keep an eye on things.

Therefore I agree she's the beard that will help him further his political career .

kennyp · 29/04/2014 20:13

plus i worked with a girl who went to oxford (university, not shopping) and was fluent mc fluent in french and she was in no way more with it than me (she couldn't do a decent plait for starters)

DrankSangriaInThePark · 29/04/2014 20:20

If he marries this woman, then I'll dance up on my roof with only my pants on.

T'ain't going to happen readers.

I don't know why him and Jennifer Aniston don't just give it a bash together, they've both been engaged more times than I've mentioned her chin on MN threads.

Which is ever such a lot.

I thought everyone took for granted he was on the other bus? And the multitude of fiancees were just so he gets into the sleb pages?

Goodwordguide · 29/04/2014 20:33

I'm also Oxford educated and pretty dim but you can go far in the UK education system by being well read and good at exams.

ImAThrillseekerBunny · 29/04/2014 20:41

A lot of actors are a bit thick but Clooney has written/directed four movies, all of them interesting if not great. Fun Wikipedia fact, he and Walt Disney are the only people to have been nominated for Oscars in 6 different categories. (Actor x2, screenplay x2, producer, director).

fairnotfair · 29/04/2014 20:48

Another thread has reminded me that Nick Griffin went to Cambridge - and he's not exactly one of the Great Thinkers of our Time. One if the Great Wankers, perhaps.

CoreyTrevorLahey · 29/04/2014 20:49

I think Clooney seems pretty damn smart, as Hollywood actors go - he's politically engaged, has written and directed very well received films, he always comes across as sharp and a good speaker.

She, on the other hand, seems mega intelligent. I always thought he batted for the other side too but she definitely seems like she'd be too canny to be someone's beard.

Fairyliz · 29/04/2014 20:54

She might be intelligent and intellectual, but she is a woman. Wouldn't we all like to say we were dating gorgeous George and might be the one to marry him?

solvendie · 29/04/2014 20:58

OP - you made me snort! Wish we had a 'Like' button Grin

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 29/04/2014 21:10

Genuine question - are all the people convinced he dances at the other end of the ballroom (wonderful phrase!) saying that because he's never married or because they know things (really know, as opposed to having heard a friend of a friend opine) that aren't public knowledge?

i know someone who used to work as an entertainments reporter. i was asking her about all the rumours on various celebs and she batted them off with a no comment but when i asked about george being gay she laughed and said 'no way'. still not convinced.

Anyway I think he is doing well out of this marriage but her, not so much. I hope this doesn't lead to her rowing back on her career.

Goodwordguide · 29/04/2014 21:45

Though I never think speaking multiple language is particularly clever - many people in other countries are bilingual / trilingual and it's nothing to do with education/intelligence. About 90% of the kids in DD's old school (in London) were bilingual - not related to their intellectual ability at all.

But I'm only jealous because he is gorgeous and talented and not weird (like Tom Cruise) and has sensible friends like Mariella Frostrup and a fabulous house in Lake Como Envy

Jinsei · 29/04/2014 21:47

I'm Cambridge-educated, and fluent in more than three languages! I wouldn't say no to George! Grin

Hmmm, while I definitely DO NOT agree with anything that comes from his mouth or his party (apart from their position on university tuition fees, which I always assumed was a swing issue for me, but turns out to not be, go figure), I wouldn't say he's not intellectual. I assume he has thought quite a lot about, um, stuff.

motherinferior · 29/04/2014 22:00

I have an Oxford degree and am reasonably bright and would be prepared to entertain Mr Clooney if he applied for the position of gentleman caller, personally.

motherinferior · 29/04/2014 22:01

Though admittedly that might involve merely accompanying him for an evening of Musical Comedy Grin

Quangle · 29/04/2014 22:07

I have an oxford degree too and would be happy to provide some private tutorials for George to get him up to speed.

Has been said already but intellect does not depend on education. It may be honed, fine tuned but we'd be dismissing a hell of a lot of very intelligent people in assuming lack of education = lack of intellect.

Re the gay thing, it always makes me feel fairly uncomfortable when famous people are talked about in this way. The fact is nobody here who says GC is definitely gay could possibly know, and no, you don't have it on good authority [irritating wink]

The same people would say that being gay is no big deal in this day and age, nothing to be ashamed of etc so why harp on about it? About a person you never knew and never will? It feels vaguely homophobic to me.

It's another version of that creepy sense of ownership some seem to have for famous people (generally women). Kate Middleton for example, the way every tiny detail of her is debated and examined, every imagined fault held up for scrutiny like she's just a thing we all own.

I've meandered there somewhat but yeah, basically unless you've personally witnessed GC playing with a willy which isn't his own then no, you do not know he's gay.

BigRedBall · 29/04/2014 22:11

Is it me, or is he about to marry his female twin? Confused

Louise1956 · 29/04/2014 22:12

being oxford educated doesn't necessarily mean you won't have things in common with someone who isn't. They seem to have similar views on many subjects - lefty politics and so on. And having a degree doesn't necessarily make you more intelligent than someone who doesn't have one - you can be clever but not academic. And how many languages does he need to speak? Do you think she is worried about his lack of languages, considering his other assets? it seems unlikely.

BigRedBall · 29/04/2014 22:13

Same face if you ask me. He's fallen in love with himself...Confused

minibmw2010 · 29/04/2014 22:13

The guy is very sensible. He's had a lot of fun in his 30s/40s and early 50s (I think he's 52 now?). He's realised he's running close to looking like a dirty old man with his constant young pretty girlfriends so he's finally decided to settle down and has chosen a beautiful young (in her late 30s I think?) smart woman to do it with, so she'll be known as 'the woman who tamed George' (incredibly condescending mind for someone as intelligent as her) and he won't get the 'dirty old man' tag. Clever guy.

Quangle · 29/04/2014 22:15

chunderella Grin. You've got a winning way with highbrow smut.
