To think George Clooney's mother is deluded if he thinks he is his fiancee's intellectual equal?

She is Oxford educated and fluent in three languages - just saying!

OP posts:
Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 29/04/2014 18:38

I did think so Hully. though I would help him find out if there is any doubt

Helpys · 29/04/2014 18:38

Aargh ' don't want to out yourself.'

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2014 18:39

GEORGE DANCES UP THE OTHER END OF THE BALLROOM

maybe his mum just means she is on the same wave length as him and not a booby bimbo like all the rest he really has kept her quiet

motherinferior · 29/04/2014 18:39

I thought he was not in fact a friend of Dorothy, Hully? Although he might help out when they're short-handed, of course...

Deftones · 29/04/2014 18:39

She's a beard, but this beard gets a ring!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 29/04/2014 18:46

I said [ a long time ag] at work that I thought George was 'batting for the other team'.

I was greeted with scorn.

Love him, he's brilliant.

woodlandwanderwoman · 29/04/2014 18:47

I think equal intelligence means you are intellectually compatible too.

Opening each others' minds is important, so having an understanding and an interest of someone's field is helpful as is communicating on the same plane.

A genius musician and genius geneticist wouldn't be interested in each other because they were both geniuses, it would have to be because they shared mutual interest in each other's subjects.

George and his lady do at least seem to share mutual passions, I say good luck to them!

Maisie0 · 29/04/2014 18:47

I hope that this does not end in the same way as Tom and Katie did. My ex and I was talking about this actually. About what is love, and what is life, and whether we still have time and so forth. He showed me this article because it is apparently quite big news in the US too. When I see a situation like this with a large age discrepancy, it really is quite unequal in matching. I hope that the lawyer can wake up from this ! It is quite ridiculous and maybe she has no idea of what the Hollywood life is like and all that jazz.

paulapantsdown · 29/04/2014 18:48

He is very very smart and we'll respected as a director. If you are going to pay for a beard then you may as well have a really smart, good looking one.

I really don't understand why he wants one though? It is an open secret among anyone who has worked with him. Bizarre in this day and age.

castlesintheair · 29/04/2014 18:49

I have it on very good authority that George is indeed not a friend of Dorothy. I always thought he was too but apparently we are wrong.

Animation · 29/04/2014 18:50

I'm quite fascinated with this couple'

Yes she's good on her subject of - International Law, but that doesn't make her an inellectual in broader terms ..and superior.

The way I see it we're all good at something - and we KNOW our subject.

I think he may have met his match though - and I understand she played very hard to get.

OhMrGove · 29/04/2014 18:51

He has finally grown a beard. Interesting.

Animation · 29/04/2014 18:54

I'm rooting for them not to be narcissistic. Hope it's a genuine love.

Veins · 29/04/2014 18:56

Smells like he's going to run for public office and might need a good chin covering.

MaidOfStars · 29/04/2014 18:57

I don't necessarily link intelligence and intellectuality. Intelligent people CAN think, intellectual people DO think.

fairnotfair · 29/04/2014 18:59

Veins - that was my first thought!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/04/2014 19:02

Law is just a trade after all, like joinery or engineering.... Real intellectuals turn their noses up at such worldly pursuits do they not?Grin

All this is he or isn't he.... I would love to say I am not interested but sadly I fear that I am. Will we ever know? Maybe he's not even 100% sure himself!

Hully I have never heard that description before!

Animation · 29/04/2014 19:04

Veins - that would mean there's an agenda if he's running for office.

MarshaBrady · 29/04/2014 19:06

I agree you can't call intelligence on lawyer / actor, does he direct?

No idea on the other thing.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 29/04/2014 19:10

He is political.

If he was thinking about running for office then the last thing he needs to do is deny his sexuality [ if that's the case]. The press would hound him!

He would have Brad and Ange on his side and every right thinking heavyweight in Hollywood.

uselessidiot · 29/04/2014 19:14

I'm sure that's not true loller, please don't put yourself down. If you could coach someone to 2:1 level in such a short time then you must be a brilliant teacher.

Back to the OP, I've absolutely no idea what George Clooney's intellectual ability is. I know he's an actor but I've only really seen him that role ie playing a character.

Trojanhouse · 29/04/2014 19:27

Are we assuming that the other women he dated were not bright just because they are actresses/ models?
Jodie Foster, Kate Beckinsdale, Cindy Crawford , Natalie Portman, Tyra Banks are just a few examples of actresses/ models who are intelligent( if intelligence is based on academic qualifications)

TheJumped · 29/04/2014 19:32

I'm in the 'qualifications and career choice do not make / prevent someone being intellectual' camp.

George can be in whatever camp he likes and it wouldn't stop my lust for him. Except in the Nespresso ads cos they're creepy.

Surely someone on MN has shagged him or knows someone who has? The sleb threads always bring intriguing facts out.

Maisie0 · 29/04/2014 19:33

Maybe this is like Shakira and Antonio. What I would hate to see is if the woman's affection has been manipulated for the guy's actual career advancement or reputation. Living a very honest life for two people is important I think. As an artist I definitely like Shakira, because at least she stands for what is in her own heart. Her work shows.

It was many moons ago that I read Madonna as having used prominent men in her life to advance each time. But then I realised that the times have changed, and men can also use women too and their public image or their credentials. Times have changed, hasn't it ?

I am not so sure about George and Amal.

kennyp · 29/04/2014 20:02

i bet ma clooney is thrilled to be ma of the groom again. i'd say the same about my son as what she said about georgie though. ds is nine and i'm off the scale of deluded

wonder where their wedding present list will be? it's all a bit reverse bridge jones to me. wasn't mark darcy a human rights lawyer? wonder if they'll get hot air ballooons up in the air (durr!!) to stop pap photos from helicopters on their "big day". must move on from thread toute suite
