to think that a certain well known clothing store is crap at bra fittings

And WIBU to return the bra they sold me in the wrong size without a receipt? It hasn't been worn...

I got fitted for a bra at said well known clothing store a couple of weeks ago - they fitted me as a 36DD.

I got fitted again today in a specialist lingerie store - they fitted me as 32FF - a bit of a difference!

Went there to be measured when I was a few months pregnant and spilling out of all my old bras. Lady told me I was a 34c....I told her that was what I was already wearing! She just said oh.... And then brought in a selection of sizes to see what fitted best!

PleaseJustShootMeNow · 29/04/2014 17:10

I think they're on commission at M&S. They always seem to think the best fitting bra is the most expensive one in the shop.

Dubjackeen · 29/04/2014 17:12

Yes, I went through the fitting experience in M&S. I could have done as good a job myself, with zero training.
I went to a different store, got a proper fitting, completely different size to what the M&S person had given, and I would never go near M&S for a fitting again.

TheWanderingUterus · 29/04/2014 17:13

Yup, 40D they said.

36FF said the independent bra shop, where I spent nearly a hundred pounds on bras that fitted perfectly. Go back there every six months now I know the bliss of a well fitted bra.

CouldntGiveAMonkeysToss · 29/04/2014 17:14

The only time I had a fitting at M and S was 12 years ago, I was 14. The fitter said I was probably a 30DD/E but I'd find it "impossible" to get that size so sold me at 32DD. At the time I had a 26 inch under bust and 34 inch bust so more like a 26FF.
I now wear a 28FF/G and it's nice to have bras that actually fit!

I am too big for m and s apparently coming in at 44 something or other. Actually a 36k in bravissimo

Snatchoo · 29/04/2014 17:19

I remember going to M&S about 3 weeks post-natal.

I was wearing a 32FF which was too small - the fitter told me that I was 'definitely not' bigger than a FF and needed a bigger back.

She then also told me that my breast size will fluctuate as I was breast feeding.

Yes, I know. Hence the reason I have come in, TO BUY A NEW FEEDING BRA!

I left after I countered what she was saying with a patient, 'yes I know, that's why I'm here' and then shrugged and told me they had nothing in my size anyway.

Itsfab · 29/04/2014 17:20

Not only are their fitters rubbish. They don't stock the sizes needed - "We can't stock every size" so they stock lots of 34A and 36B and 34C and the odd 32DD and think they have it all covered. Currently my local store - the last time I tried to buy a bra as desperate - had nothing but tshirt padded bras with one bra for the young girls and one for mastectomy patients. I emailed and they said "we know what our customers want..." I did note a couple of other bras last week..

Nocomet · 29/04/2014 17:25

Sorry, but I just can't get this huge cups, small band thing to work.

Anything tighter than a 38 band hurts after an hour and anything bigger than a D/DD either isn't filled or folds and wrinkles, depending on style.

Salazar · 29/04/2014 17:26

M&S are bloody awful. I'd been convinced I'd missed puberty in the 36As they'd put me in. I'm a 30D.

SorrelForbes · 29/04/2014 17:50

Nocomet Have you been over to the bra threads on S&B? Can we help?

Theas18 · 29/04/2014 17:50

Fortunately my youngest isn't a sensitive flower as she fitter in m&s would have scarred her for life.

Went in spilling out of wired 28DD at 11/12. Without even adding the size she said "shouldn't be in wires at your age" and, after trying on lots of bread that were too big in the band and small in the cup decided to go up a band size? We left. She didn't quite say"no one has breasts that size" but implied it.

Ended up in bravisimo again , for lovely bra and no stupid comments.

I've told dd she should be a bravissimo fitter when she's older if she needs a Saturday job!

goodasitgets · 29/04/2014 18:01

I think they put me in a 40GG or 40H
I'm a 32JJ

specialsubject · 29/04/2014 18:23

been there today. Tried several bras, nominally the same size.

either they are really badly made or there are some very funny-shaped people out there. Even with the straps lengthened to the max (which is always my first move) I'd need boobs on my collarbone for one item. The sports bra was less supportive than my normal £4 Asda cheapies!

got bored and left empty-handed.

SorrelForbes · 29/04/2014 18:42

Not only are they bad at fitting their bras are not scaled up properly for larger cup sizes and they also have serious issues with quality control. Their limited collection padded plunges in a 28 only stretch to about 25"!

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2014 18:43

the last Bra I bought there give me a huge boob seriously not a good look it was fitted and everything was told it was the perfect fit all the boobs to the centre is not what i was going for, Hmm

whats4teamum · 29/04/2014 18:51

Rigby and peller were spot on and you get prosecco!

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2014 18:52

I am a pleb though i can't afford Rigby and peller and i am in the wrong country and well I am a pleb 6sigh^ sounds very glam though

Itsfab · 29/04/2014 19:16

I had okay service in R&P in Knightsbridge and terrible service in R&P in Bluewater. Bravissimo was okay. Leia in Bluewater was probably the best out of all of them.

TiggyD · 29/04/2014 19:36

Halfords are worse.

ilovepowerhoop · 29/04/2014 19:42

what sort of bra are you buying in Halfords??

Greypuddle · 29/04/2014 19:44

They don't seem to stock any/many in my size - 30FF, so goodness knows what they'd measure me as to get a sale.

ThreeLannistersOneTargaryen · 29/04/2014 19:48

Halfords? They've branched out.
