Nursery went home and left dd!

lookingfortheanswer · 28/04/2014 18:36

Posting here for traffic, I don't have an aibu.

Went to pick up dd from nursery this afternoon and found the whole place locked up and nobody there. After frantically calling, banging on doors, checking nobody else had picked her up we managed to contact the neighbouring school. The staff who were still there were amazing, helped us to get into the building where we found dd on the toilet, on her own, lights off and doors closed, staff gone home. It took us half an hour to get in so she was there at least that long. She was obviously very upset but is now home and fine and drinking lemonade as a treat while I try to stop shaking.

Obviously this is a huge safeguarding issue and there is no way she is going back. The head of the neighbouring school has been in touch and is organising a meeting for the morning.

Any advice on where to go from here, who to complain to? Should we get legal advice? I am so so angry!

What the Jeff?

MagnaCharge · 28/04/2014 18:42

And I would report to OFSTED.

KittyandTeal · 28/04/2014 18:42

I'm a teacher and so inherently hate ofsted but I'd say this is now the time to call them. Huge safeguarding issue.

Your poor DD, I hope she's ok.

It doesn't matter how late you were, that's not the point. I worked with so
Wine who would regularly pick his Dd up half an hour-an hour after nursery closing (obviously he called to say he was late) because of his job and traffic etc.

His Dd was never left!

CoffeeTea103 · 28/04/2014 18:42

Omg! Totally unacceptable. I would be livid. Hope she is ok.

Joanne279 · 28/04/2014 18:43

Id ring the police and ofsted. Even if the police can't 'help' your call will be logged x

dobedobedo · 28/04/2014 18:43

Ohmyfuckingchrist! Surely this is actually criminal! Your poor dd, and poor you! Unbelievable. Thanks Thanks

Andrewofgg · 28/04/2014 18:43

Guts and garters come to mind. Ofsted - but not the Hate Mail which will exploit OP and the LO. You can't stop a skunk from stinking.

That is shocking Shock how old is you little one? I would be beyond livid!

HampshireMummyof1 · 28/04/2014 18:44

My stomache dropped when i read the title! I have worked in a nursery and always doubled checked everywhere before i left. leaving someone behind was one of my worst fears. Was she not signed out on the register? I hope she is ok and that you get the answers and outcome you would like.

DrFunkesFamilyBandSolution · 28/04/2014 18:44

Glad she is ok, good luck ripping them a new one.

ikeaismylocal · 28/04/2014 18:44

How terrible! I don't know what I would do but I would make sure the person in charge list their job and I would contact local and national press and name and shame the nursery and the staff.

Your poor dc :(

Forgettable · 28/04/2014 18:45

Omg

Ring Ofsted in the morning 0300 123 1231

You may be asked a few questions, you may be asked to follow Nursery Complaints Procedure but at least this horrible event will be logged with the Regulator.

You could ring the Early Years Team or Children and Young People or what ever it is called at your County Council, again in the morning. An email tonight to the Chief Executive if you feel able.

Hard bit - keep to the facts try to keep feelings out of your account of events

Right now - make notes of how things unfolded before you forget/get muddled - times, tel numbers (don't delete mobile phone call records) who helped etc

brandy for your nerves later xxx

happy2bhomely · 28/04/2014 18:45

Sorry, no advice, but OH MY GOD! How old is she? Has she spoken about it? I would be camped outside the nursery in the morning, warning every parent that arrives just how incompetent they are.

JustSpeakSense · 28/04/2014 18:45

I am speechless!

Ofsted
Police
Local Education Authority
Press

All of the above - do not let them downplay or damage control.

Sunnydaysablazeinhope · 28/04/2014 18:45

Sorry I get your upset the nursery was shut.

But how come you were so late they had shut up and gone home?

I'm kinda six of one half dozen of the other thus far. Did you forget? Plan to be late ? Tell nursery of lateness?

Confused. Not necessarily judgy yet.....

MrsMaturin · 28/04/2014 18:45

How is this possible? What time was the nursery supposed to close and what time did you get there?

kungfupannda · 28/04/2014 18:46

Looking at the timings of this, I'm wondering if something has gone catastrophically wrong at the nursery, somehow leading to this spectacular oversight. Most nurseries close at 6, and she was there for at least half an hour, and the OP only posted at 18.36, by which time she was home.

The OP also says that she went to pick up and found the place locked up and no-one there - she doesn't say she was late at all.

No excuse, obviously, but if the place was unexpectedly closed, I'm wondering if something very bizarre/some emergency has happened.

Rachie1986 · 28/04/2014 18:46

What others have said - report ASAP.

Hope you are ok xx

Sunnydaysablazeinhope · 28/04/2014 18:46

Did they shut early? It just doesn't make sense....

Ellie36 · 28/04/2014 18:47

Bloody hell that is absolutely horrendous! So glad your dd is ok! Hope you get to the bottom of it tomorrow and that you've had a medicinal glass of something

AreWeThereYeti · 28/04/2014 18:47

I would have called the police immediately.

Really?

Your DD was still sat on the toilet, in the dark? And had been so for over half an hour? No alarms went off when you went in?

All the staff members had missed she had not been picked up, so they don't mark them out?

lookingfortheanswer · 28/04/2014 18:48

I wasn't late, it's open until 6, me and dp popped to asda and got to the nursery at half 5.

I am utterly furious. Still shaking but now have Wine

The school isn't linked, but on the same site. They have been lovely, and the nursery has nothing to do with them. The head and one of the teachers who helped have called us from home to check on dd.
