To think that people who buy concert tickets just to sell them at 4 times the price are just greedy fucking thieves

And are the scum of the earth...

It's off but I don't think it's thieving. We were lucky that we managed to get the tickets for the concert my DDs wanted to see but I saw them selling at crazy prices, it sold out within ten minutes.

...gah, posted too soon.

..should be better managed to weight the odds in favour of individuals rather than touts, but it's not theft. No one is forced to buy tickets at an inflated price, and no one will die from lack of going to a concert. It's a legitimate way of making a living, and they do take the risk when they buy the tickets (not a great risk, admittedly, on popular things, but it's still a risk)

mrknowitallagain · 28/04/2014 10:50

its just a way of making money - and easy money it is too. I can make a fortune on tickets - best one last year was Mr Bble at the O2,

People who do this are shady twats. I am surprised how many people think it's absolutely fine for people to profit in this way. Of course promoters aren't arsed, they get their cut anyway but I agree with you african

Just because it isn't illegal doesn't mean the term scum is disproportionate either. Big companies legally avoiding tax to rake it in are scum also (yes there are more evil deeds in the world am aware of that)

we got tickets for a concert at the weekend that sold out in under a minute. at the same time the tout sites were selling them on. so this wasn't a case of people buying tickets that they then were unable to use. it was direct from the venue to the tout. heard an interesting article about this on the radio (cant find link sorry). the tout sites now have an algorithm that lets them use sophisticated computer programmes to get to the front of the queue and buy multiple tickets. so why don't the original sellers try and counteract this. perhaps we should go back to "on sale at the venue only" sales.

specialsubject · 28/04/2014 11:43

the job of parents is to teach kids how things work, and how not to be ripped off. If that means missing out on miming talentless bimbos on stage, so be it.

not surprising that there is a direct link from venues/artists to touts. They don't do it for their health.

as long as people will buy, there is a market.

sydlexic · 28/04/2014 11:55

Don't see a problem. Stock brokers buy and sell for profit, it is no different.

Profit is not a dirty word.

ICanSeeTheSun · 28/04/2014 11:58

It could be said about comics.

DH has a box full, some never been out of the cover and some first additions.

Price on the comic is 15p on eBay they are selling for £70. ( wish he would sell them)

Computer games. Paid £40 of a game if I was to trade it in would only get £10 back.

If people are willing to pay stupid amounts for ticket then it up to them.

MandarinCheesecake · 28/04/2014 12:06

Yes its unfair and greedy but as long as there is a market for it and willing people are prepared to pay extortionate prices then it will continue.

Twice I had tickets (different shows) that we weren't able to use so stuck them on ebay. Started both auctions at 99p for two tickets. Only cost us £35 each ticket, i stated this on listing so if I got something back would be happy that someone else could use them. 1st lot went for £160 second time they went for just under £190.

Complete madness but if someone was willing to pay that amount I wasn't going to argue.

mummymeister · 28/04/2014 12:19

there is a difference between selling on tickets that you bought thinking you could use them and then finding that something happens and you can no longer go to this event as opposed to the ridiculous level of touting that there is at the moment. it isn't about making a profit. if the venues collude with the touts knowing that they hoover up all the tickets then sell them on for more than the face value this is something the OFT should look at. because the face value of the ticket is never going to be what you pay if as an individual you have no chance of buying it at this from the venue. I am self employed running my own business and have absolutely no problem with people running theirs. I do have a problem when something that is advertised as being fair and transparent to individuals clearly isn't. if there is collusion then where are the OFT?

No there isn't. Both are sales from willing seller to willing buyer.

And concert tickets are not food, water, accommodation, or any of the other essentials of life. If you don't go to the concert . . . you'll live. No call whtever to try to regulate the market.

SouthernComforts · 28/04/2014 13:48

I got offered £1000 for my beyonce tickets outside the arena last year. I was seriously tempted but I absolutely hate touts!! Yanbu

Vintagejazz · 28/04/2014 13:54

YANBU. Maybe it's not actually theft but it's greedy and pretty disgusting behaviour.
