to really dislike the tons of makeup look?

I know, I know, each to their own and its a free world, yada yada.

I like makeup and I think it looks great on most people.

But I really dislike the troweled on (Christina Aguilera, Kate Silverton, even Kate Windsor) look that is so popular now.

Saw a woman in Sainsbury's earlier, checking out the cheese strings, and she had huge fecking false eyelashes on and I just nearly laughed.

Anyway, feel free to hit me with the why can't we women just be nice to each other stuff, I don't care tonight.

Oh, I think Kate M is a bit common, is that mean? She looks it too, mostly.

Don't care about other people's make up, I find it quite fascinating!

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2014 07:44

So who does wear nice make up? If you say people in the public eye don't look good on MN you generally get told off for not supporting the sisterhood.

Bonsoir · 24/04/2014 07:48

I agree that the make-up laden look is awful, and it seems to be young girls (who would look wonderful almost au naturel) who go for it. Such a pity.

I agree the heavy make up worn by lots today is really only good for TV/photoshoots otherwise it is really obvious just how much they have used, especially in natural day light. I blame contouring! If you google it just see the amount of make up/time used to achieve the Kim Kardashian look! My skin is not perfect (especially being pregnant at the moment, I always get spots) but I'd rather wear minimal make up than look like I've trowlled it on!

Yes.

But then again you are entitled to your opinion!

JapaneseMargaret · 24/04/2014 08:48

I don't think it's that young people don't have the confidence to go au natural. They don't want to, because troweling it on is the fashion, and it's so important to be part of the 'tribe' at that age.

I do think the slug brow look is going to date, and date badly. Slug brows are to this generation what bubble perms, mahoosive, teased back fringe quiffs (generally, just humoungous hair) were to mine.

We thought we looked the dogs, but the photographic proof showed we so, so did not. Grin

adsy · 24/04/2014 08:50

Sorry, That link for whoever that person is....
is that meant to show a natural look then? It's still huge amounts of make up but a different colour

LRDtheFeministDragon · 24/04/2014 08:54

It is the fashion, but some of them really do believe they are 'ugly' without makeup. I've heard them and they're not putting it on or kidding. I expect we were all the same about something, but that doesn't make it better.

MiniatureRailway · 24/04/2014 08:58

I wear a lot of make up for work and nights out and really like a made up look. I'm also perfectly comfortable taking the dc out for the day without it. I'm confident that I'm attractive in both situations in different ways. You can't say that all women in heavy make up are insecure. I rather suspect the opposite is true as sometime I think rather a lot of myself with a full face on. Grin

MiniatureRailway · 24/04/2014 08:58

I will admit I don't like the big eyebrows though.

DownstairsMixUp · 24/04/2014 09:33

Cheryl Cole looks completely different without make up! She must spend so much time on her eyes as they look huge with make up but without they sink and look tiny! Same with Mila Kunis!

pinkpeoniesx · 24/04/2014 09:57

Cheryl Cole and Mila Kunis are ridiculously beautiful, both with and without makeup.
I love wearing make up, and not because I'm insecure without it as a pp suggested, but because it's fun!

It's not really anyone else's business how much effort someone chooses to put into their appearance, and I'm surprised how incredibly mean and bitchy some of these comments are Hmm

Theodorous · 24/04/2014 10:12

Well I think laughing at people in supermarkets because of the way they look is a sure sign of a shitty personality.
Each to his own, for my amusement I find the fuzzy haired wellywearing mumz amusing, for fucks sake, brush your hair, just the fact of having giving birth does not mean you can't at least be tidy.

Who cares if anyone has fun with their image? Are we really going to stand there and judge because someone has worn a certain look? What's to stop someone judging you for how you look?

By the way, anyone saying that Cheryl Cole or Mila Kunis are anything less than gorgeous should submit their own photo for close scrutiny.

thebodydoestricks · 24/04/2014 12:18

Doesn't bother me really. Each to their own.

I do snigger at dd3 aged 15 though. I think she has a trowel hidden somewhere.

When I was 15 my dm used to say you look like a painted slut dear take it off trouble was that was actually the effect I was after ha ha.

Rather a million times see someone bothered about their appearance than someone untidy, dirty and smelly.

thebodydoestricks · 24/04/2014 12:21

japsnese fergie bow and bat wing jumper!

I have the photo of me. It's diabolical.
