YABU. That image is not remotely pornographic.

ElizabethJennings · 21/04/2014 15:15

It's objectifying woman, and portraying school age girls in a sexual way.

edamsavestheday · 21/04/2014 15:16

No, it's not pornographic. Poor choice of pic though, grasping at straws to make boring story interesting.

Andrewofgg · 21/04/2014 15:18

It is neither. It was taken at a girls' school and is therefore a photo of girls and it does not show them in a sexual way unless you think any photo of girls of that age is sexual. Ffs.

PhallicGiraffe · 21/04/2014 15:19

That's a daily mail headline in your thread title. Dramatic and not true.

mummymeister · 21/04/2014 15:19

Agree its not pornographic but a very poor choice of photo to go with a serious story. this isn't from an 18 rated film. Not offended by it but it wouldn't make me want to rush out and support this company either. I always feedback directly to the company when I come across adverts like this. they tend to always be pleased for some feedback as often what a 20 something ad writer or jouno thinks is acceptable isn't always to parents.

pinkyredrose · 21/04/2014 15:20

schoolgirls in stockings and suspenders and you're saying they're not shown in a sexual way Andrewofgg?? wtf!!

whatsonyourplate · 21/04/2014 15:20

Hmmm... hardly relevant to the subject is it.

Goblinchild · 21/04/2014 15:20

Looks like a shot from the last St Trinian's film.

weatherall · 21/04/2014 15:22

They have suspenders showing which does make the image sexualised.

PumpkinsMummy · 21/04/2014 15:22

Goblin is right, it is from the St Trinians film. Lilly Cole is the "geeky" redhead with the top knots.

RufusTheReindeer · 21/04/2014 15:24

I don't think it's pornographic

It is however a completely unnecessary photograph and does conform to the "sexy schoolgirl" image

lollerskates · 21/04/2014 15:24

it does not show them in a sexual way

Some of the girls in the photograph are not wearing their normal school uniform. They are wearing a very obviouslysexualised version of their school uniform. The stockings with visible suspenders and high heels are the giveaways. Stockings with suspenders worn with skirts so short that the suspenders can be seen are a well-known "sexy" thing. I am very surprised that you have never encountered it before.

Ev1lEdna · 21/04/2014 15:25

It isn't pornographic, that is a highly sensationalist heading but it made me laugh Grin There is some interesting Lolita-esque fashion going on at the school though lol. Quite a few teenagers subscribe to being objectified (alas - I wish it weren't so) and it looks like the photographer decided to capitalise upon that somewhat in the choice of girls at the front of the photograph (if you look behind there isn't quite the same take on the uniform going on.)

Andrewofgg · 21/04/2014 15:25

Well pinkyredrose I looked at their faces - believe me or not as you see fit.

LeBearPolar · 21/04/2014 15:26

Well, the image is from the St. Trinian's films (so they haven't just dressed those girls up like that for no reason) but am not sure why it's relevant to the article.

lastnightIwenttoManderley · 21/04/2014 15:26

Glad I wasn't the only one to notice it was from St Ts.

Although to the posters saying 'it's a girl's school' I can assure you we never dressed like that in my day (about 15yrs ago).

Seems very desperate and entirely out of context. Surely Getty have some stock images of schools and/or solar panels?

BlueJean · 21/04/2014 15:26

Its a ridiculous photo to illustrate the article but it isn't pornographic.

mummymeister · 21/04/2014 15:27

Its a still from a film. its lazy journalism/advertising practice. "ooh we need a picture of some school kids to spice this up a bit. I know a still from St Trinians"

I have always taken the st T films to be more about female empowerment since its the men who cant do things without female help but hey that is just me.

RufusTheReindeer · 21/04/2014 15:27

St trinians has a 12 rating

Ev1lEdna · 21/04/2014 15:32

Well, the image is from the St. Trinian's films (so they haven't just dressed those girls up like that for no reason) but am not sure why it's relevant to the article.

Ahh it did look like St Trinians but I thought the girls were just being creative - as they do. I agree with the lazy journalism , what has that got to do with the article?

Fairy1303 · 21/04/2014 15:33

Are you being serious?

It's a picture from st trinians...

Ihavenopigs · 21/04/2014 15:34

I agree it's not legally pornographic so title possibly a bit strong but did get your attention.
But I'm is a sexualised image of schoolgirls (clearly not a real school) being used in a national broadsheet to illustrate solar energy investment.
Feels very inappropriate at least.
