So this morning was checking facebook and my homepage was full of pics of what people had bought their dc. Money, clothes, games trampoline, trainers you name it. I thought at easter you got easter eggs right ? Its like christmas number 2.

Will admit my daughter who is 15 weeks old had 17 presents this morning ....but shes too young for chocolate !

Easter has never been a time to give more than eggs in my house either Confused.

The best one on my FB wall this morning is someone who has given each of their 3 DCs a largish looking basket filled with sweets & toys each, plus two outfits each, plus countless (literally, they didn't all fit in to the photo) easter eggs. At first I thought that maybe GPs had given some of the gifts - aunties, uncles etc., but then I read the comments underneath which made it clear that this was all just from Mummy Confused.

We give gifts and no eggs due to health reasons... But I'm not on Facebook so don't post pics.

I haven't seen any pictures of big presents either! Mine got a bag of mini eggs to share (for an easter egg hunt), an egg each from the pound shop, and an Easter activity book.

And there was me thinking Easter was all about celebrating Christ Risen. You know, the symbolic egg thing.

< disclaimer; I'm an atheist and Easter for me growing up was a couple of bad choc eggs and a slap up Sunday lunch. Oh and feeling guilty that we hadn't joined the rest of extended family for Passover>

I am old and moany but everything (lately) does come across as just an excuse for spending money on even more stuff. What's wrong with a couple of eggs, belt loosening lunch, arguing over washing up, board games and James Bond?

DH says as a child used to get ten Easter Eggs as a minimum, because it was a big family all buying each other eggs. So he would have been seen as very spoilt these days even though he wasn't at all.

We seem to have managed to distance ourselves from that sort of madness though. Mum and Dad gave our two a tenner each.

I had none of these on fb. None at all. Which was nice.

mamicar · 20/04/2014 16:07

it is a bit much. I did put a picture up of my boys eggs for my mum. But they did only get eggs, 2 off us, 1 off my mum and 1 off my dad ( hence pic!) they got money too. £20 between three of them off mil and a fiver each off my nan. we will use that to take them out next weekend though oe towards holiday clothes.

On my son's first Easter he had 27 eggs. Every single person seemed to buy him one. He had since moved house and this year he has one in a truck from my parents, a small one from an aunt and two from us (one of which was sent from a kind Mumsnetter). He has no real interest in chocolate and they are still sitting on the fireplace....until Mammie gets them....lol
