I panic bought my wine last night. Not that I really even want it, but I'd like the option.
Happy bad Friday :)

NuggetofPurestGreen · 18/04/2014 19:26

I was just saying that earlier, about people coming over for stags and hens because of the long weekend. You'd get some land wouldn't you?

YouTheCat · 18/04/2014 19:31

I really feel like going to the pub now. Grin

ChablisLover · 18/04/2014 19:33

Are you in the south? Can it not be sold at all?

Up north we can't buy alcohol in pubs till 5 but pubs can still open just not serve booze. Supermarkets and offies can sell all they want unless attached to a pub.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 18/04/2014 19:37

No Chablis not allowed sell it anywhere like shops or supermarkets. Some of the pubs might open to do food and soft drinks but no booze. There's a couple of exceptions like the dogs and the theatre and the train stations and airport (if you have a ticket) but no off licence sales.

JustSquirted · 18/04/2014 19:40

Oh thank you MaryZ.
My wee car has never raced down the road so fast.
Offy closes at 7 tonight.
But.....thanks to your good self, I have wine.

Cooking my Easter Sunday Ham in Cider and I'm in N.I. lol

Bunbaker · 18/04/2014 19:52

Everyone I know who drinks wine doesn't just buy one bottle for immediate consumption. Don't you buy a few and keep them in the wine rack like most folk? (ready for emergencies like this)

I realise this isn't a very helpful answer.

hollyisalovelyname · 18/04/2014 20:09

Ah Ma- that's Karma cos of your sacriligous name !!!Grin

MaRyzerection · 18/04/2014 21:04
Hmm

I'm not sure I like the tone of some on you on this thread

You aren't exactly sympathetic, are you

Bun, I have teenagers, there's no point in having a wine rack. Or a fridge for that matter.

What's the licensing laws like on Easter Monday in Ireland? We are heading down for a few days. We will need wine!!!

MaRyzerection · 18/04/2014 21:23

I think it's business as usual on Easter Monday (so pubs open, off-licenses open 10.30 to 10 pm).

dh has just walked in and said "oh, I had a bottle of wine for you but I left it in work".

Would it be unreasonable to kill him? Not (of course) for forgetting wine, but for mentioning it as he opened a bottle of beer.

Fucker.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 18/04/2014 21:27

Send him back!

MaRyzerection · 18/04/2014 21:30

Believe me I considered it. It's about 30 miles away though. And now he's had a beer Hmm.

OP posts:
Panadbois · 18/04/2014 21:39

The last time we went to Ireland (8 years ago today) we walked for miles looking for a pub so we could sample some Guiness. Took us ages to realise all the pubs were closed because of Good Friday. Such a waste of a trip Grin

MaRyzerection · 18/04/2014 21:43

They should have signs at the airport, really, shouldn't they?

Or get the pilot to make an announcement "you are now landing in Dublin where the temperature is 10 degrees, it's pissing it down a soft day (thank God) and the pubs will be closed for the next 36 hours"

TOADfan · 18/04/2014 21:46

And I too thought they where bad up here in NI.

For a nation thats stereotyped as drunks its a contradiction of sorts Grin

dustarr73 · 18/04/2014 21:53

I have to laugh drinking is a no no but gambling is alright.I stocked up last night.I will have one for you op as im feeling charitable because its Easter.Easter Grin

canyou · 18/04/2014 21:53

Ma where are you? I have an open bottle of red that I now cannot drink Hmm Will pass it your way Wine Wine Wine.
GAA clubs are open and can serve wine tonight if that helps

MaRyzerection · 18/04/2014 21:57

How are GAA clubs open?

You know, I thought a law saying no drink was to be sold was stupid. But I now think a law saying no drink unless you are at an important rugby match, a greyhound stadium or on a train is even stupider [baffled]

OP posts:
mousmous · 18/04/2014 21:57

oh,i sympathise.
am in a country that totally shuts down on good friday. not even the little shops at petrol stations are allowed to sell anything but petrol.

canyou · 18/04/2014 22:00

Our is collecte DC earlier members are in drinking Grin I was Envy. and Sad. I wanted to join in . I love a good lock in.

mousmous · 18/04/2014 22:01

bank holiday here= no supermarkets/shops are open. but petrol stations are allowed to sell groceries and pubs/restaurants are open.

lostheloveofmylife · 18/04/2014 22:05

Same in Canada. Everything is closed.

ChablisLover · 18/04/2014 22:09

Thanks

So there was drink at the rds tonight at the rugby??

We live on a strange island. I thought our norn Irish licensing laws were mad. Seems your laws are stranger especially given our collective reputation as drinkers!

Thank god st paddys day is not on Good Friday!
