To drink alcohol on antibiotics that say avoid alcohol?

I got some metronidazole antibiotics and it says avoid alcohol.
Does that mean even 1 solitary glass of wine is not allowed? What will happen to me?
If I'm not allowed, how on earth do I get through a family filled Easter weekend!?!?
I did not think this damned bv infection through

I've drank on those and I seriously wouldn't advise it, a glass and a half of wine had me throwing my guts up and I felt like I had a hangover for days.
I've drank on other antibiotics and never encountered a reaction like that, but might just be me.

Mari50 · 15/04/2017 12:13

Do not drink on metronidozole. It will make you very sick.
Most antibiotics it's more about affecting the efficacy of the drug but with this one it will make you really ill.
They work in a similar way to drugs which are to help alcoholics stay off alcohol and you'll be very sick.

Mari50 · 15/04/2017 12:16

Reading this I'm agog at the amount of people who have drank alcohol when taking this drug. It clearly explains why it's contraindicated.
Utter stupidity.

PushingThru · 15/04/2017 12:22

People who are trying to persuade the OP to drink are being really irresponsible. I hope you aren't quite so dismissive & casual about doctors' and pharmacists' advice when it comes to giving medicines to your children 🙄

sobeyondthehills · 15/04/2017 12:31

ZOMBIE

HappyFlappy · 15/04/2017 12:36

f course you will get through the weekend without any alcohol

Might I recommend crystal meth? You can blackout more than family with crystal meth. It's powerful stuff.

SauvignonBlanche · 15/04/2017 12:38

I assume the OP made their mind up 3 fucking years ago when they posted.

What a weird ZOMBIE thread Hmm

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/04/2017 12:40

Ibarra had this for a tooth abscess and my dentist told me to wait 48 hours after the last dose before having a drink. I absolutely wouldn't chance it, whereas with something like penicillin I would have a glass of wine.

IloveBanff · 15/04/2017 12:44

ArielPistachio you're an idiot! What was the point of that?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 15/04/2017 12:45

Ariel I find it quite it quite mind boggling that you actually went to the trouble of a practice run and risked being horrifically sick just because you wanted to drink at a BBQ Hmm

Did you even read the zombie thread that you bumped with all the people who were sick in metronidazole?!

I know my body will be struggling to process the alcohol and you don't care

TesticlesInTheBlender · 15/04/2017 12:55

Why are you referring to antihistamines?

Rioja123 · 15/04/2017 12:57

I'm on the same ones at the moment for wisdom tooth infection and my dentist made me promise to her that I would not touch alcohol. She said I'd be really sick if I did.

Whichoneisit · 15/04/2017 13:01

They used to put it in George Best's food to stop him from drinking. I wouldn't advise alcohol!

listsandbudgets · 15/04/2017 13:37

You can and will get through the easter weekend without a drink. I hsventdrunk since July 2erd tbanks to my medication so it could be worse

Meekonsandwich · 15/04/2017 18:32

Don't do it. You WILL feel like shit.

They don't put these things for fun you know!

Meekonsandwich · 15/04/2017 18:34

Jesus Christ. I need to check dates more.

DEAD THREAD.

WankingMonkey · 15/04/2017 18:48

I don't pay much attention to the no alcohol rules, and have always been fine. BUT have never been on Metronidazole
