Just this really, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_sensory_meridian_response I don't really know how to post links but I get it when people play with my hair or if people are very softly spoken. Nothing sexual just a lovely relaxed feeling that starts with a tingling sensation in the back of my head. I thought everyone got it until I spoke to dh and he thinks it is odd. I have found on youtube and through google that there seems to be a whole community of people who gets this. Do you get it or is it unusual? It is a lovely feeling but very difficult to explain

I get it from people paying me attention - eye tests, doctor's appointments etc. I also get it when my children are the ones being 'looked' at like at the GP or wherever and bizarrely, I have builders doing some work just now and I discovered I also get it from watching them measure the house!

I get it from people paying me attention - eye tests, doctor's appointments etc.

This, plus someone playing with my hair, drawing on my hair and watching someone close by drawing or painting.

I also had misophonia and Alice in Wonderland Syndrome (probably not linked at all!)

givemushypeasachance · 22/02/2017 16:05

I get it and also prefer the accidental/unintentional videos - the whispery deliberate ones are a bit 'forced'? So I do feel something from them, but it's not as nice and relaxed and genuine as something like watching someone painting, or building/crafting something. The medical examination ones are some of the best - that and videos explaining how to fit someone for a suit, or giving someone a shave. And some people's voices just talking melodically seem to do it naturally.

I'm another person who gets it from close attention IRL too - opticians, doctors appointments, haircuts (though I don't like staring at myself in the mirror - if it was acceptable to just close my eyes and sit quietly, I'd properly bliss out from it).

One thing I really don't like is when someone comes up behind me and talks - I can feel it shivering down my neck, it's a physical sensation, it tickles. I jump out of the way or have to turn to face them. My family would tease me about it growing up - I was known for that well before I understood about asmr being a thing. Don't know if it's related?

KermitRuffinsTrumpet · 22/02/2017 17:02

Yup I've always had this but have only realised what it was over the last 5 years.
I favourite is ASMRmania on YouTube. She's amazing Wink

RaspberryOverloadTheFirst · 22/02/2017 21:23

I don't have misophonia, but then, I'm partly deaf. don't know if that changes things.

I used to encourage the DCs to play with my, then, long hair, they loved doing it and I would zone out somewhat.

RaspberryOverloadTheFirst · 22/02/2017 21:25

I've jsut remembered that when the DCs were younger, around 6-7, they would like to get my make up and draw pictures on my face and arms. I would lay on the bed to let them have a go, and this, too, would cause me to zone out. It was very gentle and soothing, and they could happily spend ages doing it.

Sums up my thoughts on ASMR lol

RadioGaGoo · 28/11/2017 14:46

Dr Dimitri is my saviour!

TheWickerWoman · 28/11/2017 15:02

Yes, I get it from clicky noises in a quiet setting, there are certain types of voices that make me go goosebumpy and sometimes watching hair dressers cut hair.

I’ve watched a few asmr videos online and the majority of it works for me. Oh.. and watching people have massages works for me too 😄 I’m almost as relaxed as they are just by watching.

FartnissEverbeans · 28/11/2017 15:28

Yes! I love it!

I love the whispery voices coming from all directions and the personal attention and certain noises... the hand gestures are a bit weird though, I don't get that.

My absolute favourite is watching people get massages. I prefer getting them myself but this comes a very close second.

I'm getting all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it, like settling down into a nice warm bath.

On a related note, I also love spot squeezing videos and that guy who magnifies ingrown hairs Blush

dustarr73 · 28/11/2017 15:36

ooh I thought I was a bit broken...off to dr Google I go

Fedupfeelingthisway · 30/11/2017 01:22

Yes, I get this all the time. DD always draws in my back or strokes my hair to avoid bedtime, she knows how to send me off into a docile heap, thus staying up later than she should!

My latest one though...Ear wax removal videos on YouTube! Oh boy I wish I had really clogged up ears Envy

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 30/11/2017 06:47

Yes I get it too, although didn't know the name until a few years ago. Some voices mainly, head massage, playing with hair, some music and some books do it for me. And often yoga nidra.
I've not yet found a good youtube video though, either too forced and annoying or too sexualised!

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 30/11/2017 06:50

And misophonia here too. Eating sounds make me want to leave a room.
