just want to enjoy hearing the birds in my own garden on sunny days

I work full time, on the odd sunny weekend I just want to sit in the garden and read.

Unfortunately my neighbour always likes to bring their radio out and have it on for hours and this makes me retreat inside and close all the windows.

Already had an argument with one neighbour due to their security light that shined in my bedroom window every time a car went by so don't want to have another tiff. The music isn't really loud, but loud enough that I can hear the vocals and every single word of the adverts. They are nice people, so far,I just think its really selfish to play your music in the garden when other people are nearby.

I do so agree; it is lovely to sit in the garden and listen to birdsong; radios should stay indoors. I am trying very hard to remind myself that my neighbours, the Passionate Gardeners, do not play a radio or jump on a trampoline or scream and shout, but they are the noisiest gardeners I have ever lived next door to. At the moment they are planting something that involves banging it on the side of the shed for ten bangs, then some hammering and rattling of tarpaulin and then a crunch crunch crunch up the gravel path, and have been doing so since 9.30am; this happens every day; it isn't gardening , it's outdoor engineering; she also sings and flirts loudly with her husband,; excrutiating. The children on the other side, plus trampoline, are no disturbance at all. I am trying to study, which explains why I am on mumsnet and have been driven indoors, again, on a lovely sunny day.

There seems to be so much intolerance lately.

You'd be able to hear the birds in my garden today.

There's little wind so my windchimes are quiet.....

You are absolutely not BU. I love to hear the birds too and someone else's radio would drive me spare. You say they're reasonable- they may be amenable to a quiet word. Once lived in a flat below a guy who played loud music all weekend - in between sanding the floors. It seriously impacted my mental health. I know your situ isn't quite so extreme, but I fully understand. Good luck.

Seriously wind chimes would be pleasent. Nothing compared to the radio, that "love shack" song is driving me loopy!

Ordered three solar powered water pumps. Hope that sound doesn't annoy people, but might stop me being able to hear the music when inside.
