AIBU or is my cat ?

He's over on the other sofa. Snuggled up to DH. And he's staring at me giving me huge cat evils. He's spent the last month refusing to settle unless he was sat on me. I may have tempted him over here 4weeks ago with promises of stroking and other delights (and Sheba) But now I am dead to him.

You mean you don't already know what you did to offend him?

YABVU You need to sort your act out quickly, fix the problem and apologise before you find yourself replaced.

FaithLehaneFiveByFive · 16/04/2014 19:03

My mum's cat gets seriously shirty when I come to stay and bring DD with me as we sleep in 'his' room. Ignores everyone and pointedly sleeps in the porch despite there being lots of alternative 'his' places in the house.

My mum says he refuses to speak to her for days after Grin

Yambabe · 16/04/2014 19:17

You need more Dreamies, preferably cheesy ones Grin

cardibach · 16/04/2014 19:29

Mine is OK as long as he gets the sofa to himself:

NotQuiteWithItAtAll · 16/04/2014 20:17

Mine looked at me like this! I feared for my life.

Oh NotQuite she is terrifying.

After I stroke my cat she cleans the part of her that I've touched with a look of disgust on her face. She finds me repulsive Sad

ForalltheSaints · 16/04/2014 20:26

A person owns a dog, a cat owns a person.

ICanSeeTheSun · 16/04/2014 20:29

How about sending DH to the shop, remove the husband and the cat may want you.

ladymalfoy · 16/04/2014 20:36

You are nobody until you have been ignored by a cat.

Megrim · 16/04/2014 20:53

YABU. It is not the staff's place to question the actions of any feline in the household.

AryaHouseStark · 16/04/2014 20:54

YABU Grin My cat who is sitting purring on my lap is shocked

NotQuiteWithItAtAll · 16/04/2014 21:20

theeternal she is the same! How dare I touch her clean fur. She's happy to roll around on the filthy mat though!

jacks365 · 16/04/2014 21:24

My cat deserted me 2 years ago and chose a new human, doesn't matter how much the new human pulls his tail or pinches his foodI am now surplus to requirements

Wishyouwould · 16/04/2014 21:27

Deathraystare · 17/04/2014 13:12

OP I am sorry but it means only one thing. The cat is wondering why you are still around? I am afraid you have to leave. You have served your purpose. We are here to hold your hand.....

Funny they seem to prefer menfolk (who are not usually the ones that feed them grrr!). Ours always went soppy over my dad but would ignore mum (who cleaned up cat sick when no one else would!).

Quinteszilla · 17/04/2014 13:17

Cats are never unreasonable.

I give you Bear

Madratlady · 17/04/2014 13:49

YANBU but I'm afraid cats are always U

Girlcat has been Awol for 48 hours. Boycat is confused and has demanded my constant attention this morning. Unfortunately he has to move off my lap for baby ds which he isn't pleased about!

diddl · 17/04/2014 13:55

"they seem to prefer menfolk"

Mine does.

Gets to about 6, she jumps into the dining room window & when he pulls into the drive, dashes down to the door to meet him.

He does feed her though...

emms1981 · 18/04/2014 17:03

She always likes to sleep on or in my bed

AlpacaPicnic · 18/04/2014 20:58

One of my cats will only talk to me when there is no other option... I.e. No men in the house!
The other one is only just forgiving me because one of my friends accidentally shut him in the sofa on Saturday night and he was in there until Monday morning. He has a voice, just chose not to use it. 'Twas sheer luck we found him. Has been spoiled with cuddles, wet food, chicken, milk to drink etc. He still blames me. I didn't even do it!

DontCallMeBaby · 18/04/2014 21:07

My cats prefer girls. But they're boys themselves, so maybe that's it?

They are not unreasonable. It is reasonable to never sit on a lap unless the person to whom it belongs is sitting on the loo. It is reasonable to wail forlornly at 5am because you feel a little lonely. It's reasonable to spend the entire day rolling about on the bed in order to replace all the shed hair which mysteriously disappeared from it. Reasonable to sit outside the back door, but hiding behind something, emitting tiny pathetic squeaks until your person finally realises you're there and let's you in. Perfectly reasonable to greet your (bigger, harder) brother by biting him on the arse EVERY time you see him, thus initiating a fight which you lose.

Do not question the reasonableness of the cat.
