That's nice, but actually it's not "half term"

It is "end of term"

Have a lovely time with your daughter x

WorraLiberty · 11/04/2014 17:25

Yes I love it too

Mine broke up last Friday

2rebecca · 11/04/2014 17:25

Why did you put make up on for it? I don't get that bit, otherwise I agree it's great having them off although mine have been busy revising and are just finishing their fortnight off (Scotland)

TurnOffTheTv · 11/04/2014 17:26

I'm pleased because we seem to be the only school that finished today and not last week, so I'm getting a cheapy holiday on the 21st :-)

AnyFucker · 11/04/2014 17:26

I am off next week too

Mine are teenagers though and completely disinterested in me {grin]

TurnOffTheTv · 11/04/2014 17:28

Is that a good or bad thing AF? Grin

schokolade · 11/04/2014 17:29

Grin 2rebecca. it means "very happy that"

you've reminded me of the first time my (german) DH heard the phrase "made up". He asked my auntie why my (male) cousin would wear make up. Confused her a lot Grin

AnyFucker · 11/04/2014 17:30

Turn, it depends Grin

TurnOffTheTv · 11/04/2014 17:32

I've got a big age gap so the bigs (14,9) are keeping the small (2) occupied downstairs. They think I'm tidying the bedrooms in some mad frenzy so are staying out of the way in case I ask them to help. I'm actually sitting in my room having a glass of wine and mumsnetting. Grin

Sirzy · 11/04/2014 17:33

We broke up last friday, inbetween hospital and doctors appointents we haven't had much time for fun yet but still enjoying the holidays, looking forward to a quieter week next week with more fun!

misstiredbuthappy · 11/04/2014 17:37

Oops we call ut half term round here anyfucker either its a Welsh thing or we are just wrong lol thanks schokolade yes means im very happy that shes off for some quality time.

Octopusinabunchofdaffodils · 11/04/2014 17:37

Yes, absolutely love it :) The only better time is the 5 week summer holiday :)

2rebecca · 11/04/2014 17:40

I've not heard that expression before (and I was brought up in England but lived here for 20ish years). To me made up involves make up or make believe. Is it a new trendy expression (I'm now middle aged :( )or a regional thing?

schokolade · 11/04/2014 17:42

Definitely not new, but possibly regional. My family from the northeast use it. Not sure where else though, havent lived in England for a very long time. It certianly isn't a saying that makes much sense!!

TantrumsAndBalloons · 11/04/2014 17:43

I booked next week off. Though why, I do not know because my teenagers have revisions sessions at school, plans with friends, sports stuff.

Still, it will be peaceful Grin

misstiredbuthappy · 11/04/2014 17:44

No its not new. Im in north wales here. [Confused] people will read my post title now and wonder what the hell im on about :)

OP posts:
MrsBennetsEldest · 11/04/2014 17:45

Mine broke up today for end of term too. It must be a Welsh thing. Made up is the same as being chuffed, pleased etc.

MrsBennetsEldest · 11/04/2014 17:46

Sounds like us North Waleans are forrin OP. Grin

NadiaWadia · 11/04/2014 17:48

They say 'made up' = 'pleased' in Liverpool don't they? I hear it in a Scouse accent in my head. Know this from many years of watching 'Brookside'! (still miss it).

misstiredbuthappy · 11/04/2014 17:48

We must be mrs you watch someone else from north wales will pop up with not a clue what im going on about Grin

TheKangaroo · 11/04/2014 17:49

Ours break up on Wednesday (the country we're in has quite short Easter holidays) and I enjoy the break as they are now old enough to go out with friends, amuse themselves and so on (I work at home) but I've booked a few days and can't wait Smile

thornrose · 11/04/2014 17:51

I've mostly heard 'made up' in this context with a Liverpool accent.

We've had a week off already it's flown by Sad one more week to go, yay!

misstiredbuthappy · 11/04/2014 17:54

My dm was brought up in liverpool so maybe that has something to do with my strange sayings Blush

OP posts:
Sirzy · 11/04/2014 17:57

I live just outside Liverpool and didn't think twice about made up, just normal saying here

MrsBennetsEldest · 11/04/2014 17:58

But it's not strange OP, perfectly normal for us. I'm that made up that your made up it's cracking. :)
