To put DC in 6+ month pushchair when under 6 months?

Wiggy29 · 08/04/2014 13:20

I guess this is less a aibu and more I should/ are there real risks?

Thinking that surely lots of people do and their kids don't have massive spinal defects?

I would be doing it out if desperate need rather than just to be defiant! I am expecting twins and have dc2 will only be 18months when they arrive, I've seen that you can actually fit 3 seats on select but seats are for 6 months plus.

Would you risk it? If I don't I fear I may never leave the house Aline and though there are other options such as Abc adventure that take 3 little ones, we just don't have the £900+ it costs.

Excuse all typos, should say never leave house again and pushchair is baby jogger city select that can fit 3 seats.

I wouldn't with newborns. Would a backpack carrier for the oldest be an option?

Wiggy29 · 08/04/2014 13:27

I think he'd be a bit too heavy for me to carry him any distance and push a reasonably heavy double pushchair.

What about a double from birth and a buggy board?

candycoatedwaterdrops · 08/04/2014 13:29

Have you looked for a second hand pushchair for 3 littlies?

WhatsTheWordHummingbird · 08/04/2014 13:30

Oh and take a sling so you can swap one baby into a sling to let the 18mo have a nap in the pram?

candycoatedwaterdrops · 08/04/2014 13:32

Is this any good? Maclarens are usually suitable from birth.

Wiggy29 · 08/04/2014 13:33

Triple buggies just too wide and I think 18 months is too young for a buggy board. I have looked at buggy board with seat/ straps but I imagine he'll still need to nap during day at that point.

I have a baby Bjorn but was very uncomfortable first few months with other DC (think because I have excess milk so always tender boobs) so didn't use it until they'd settled at about 6 months. I need a solution for that in between stage.

Candycoated- I just can't see me getting on buses/ in local shops with something so wide.

KatAndKit · 08/04/2014 13:34

There are cheaper triple buggies than that. I have seen a basic from birth triple stroller on the kiddicare site. Other than that, you could use a double and get a buggy board with a seat.

KatAndKit · 08/04/2014 13:36

Hmm missed the bit about buses. That might be tricky.

VeloWoman · 08/04/2014 13:36

Why don't you use a city select with one twin in a bassinet, the 18m old in a seat and the other twin in a sling. And for the first six weeks you may be able to get away with both twins in the one bassinet, or longer depending on how fast they grow. Or you could use a double with lay flat seats and a front mounted toddler seat.

The main reason not to use a 6m+ seat with a newborn is not their backs it is the angle of the bucket seat, their chins can slump onto their chests and this can compromise their airways/breathing/oxygen saturation levels.

I really would not do it.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 08/04/2014 13:38

Ah right, the bus does complicate things.

DaleyBum · 08/04/2014 13:39

Baby Bjorn carriers are not ergonomic, they do not distribute the weight of the baby evenly and they hold the baby in a position that can be detrimental to their spine/hips. If you get a carrier that is properly designed it can be comfortable for a very long time (I've even seen someone carry their 7 year old). I use a woven wrap but if it's buckles you like you might want to have a look at Manduca, Ergo, Tula and Boba, all which will be much much more comfortable. I comfortably carry my chunky 91st centile 4 month old for hours and hours every day.

KatAndKit · 08/04/2014 13:39

The T3 triple might be suitable? It is 600 on Amazon so used would be reasonable price.

I have a 20 month gap between my dd and twin ds's, the boys are now 9 months. I have no idea about the risks of putting tinies in buggies for. 6 months + but I do know that although it is possible to put 3 seats on the select it is not safety tested or recommended. That's not to say it is unsafe, but equally, there's no guarantee that it is.
I bought a Valco Zee Two and toddler seat from the USA. I was lucky that DH happened to be working there ar the right time, but they are available on eBay, much cheaper than the abc. Also look at the t3 jogger which is often available 2nd hand on eBay for approx £300.

I did consider the bugggy board option, and that would have worked if I drove everywhere and dd just went on it for pottering around town, but I walk a lot, eg a mile each way to town where most of our baby groups etc are, and I really don't think she would have coped. Also considered the sling option, but although I did use one a bit I had a c section so was careful about not carrying them for long. My boys were small enough at birth that they both easily fit into a single phil &teds carrycot, so I had them in one side of the double and dd in the other side for a bit.

Good luck with whatever you decide. 3 under 2 is very hard work, but you will leave the house again eventually!!

TheOnlyWayisGerard · 08/04/2014 13:42

You can get foam wedge insert things for bucket seat can't you? The Silvercross Wayfarers used to come with them to make the seat useable from birth, something like this, I assume there are also UK stockists

Artandco · 08/04/2014 13:42

Wiggy - I would use earlier that 6 months with a pushchair wedge and sheepskin. However prob not from newborn.

But what you could do:
0-3 months - have both twins sharing one babyjogger carrycot top and tail. Can sling one sometimes but should fit

Then like I said look for a pushchair seat wedge. Can't think who sells but can look. And add sheepskin. Then not such a curve. Main reason is so airways are open rather than just spine I think

Practice buggy board when needed

Def recommend the beco Gemini sling. Can go on front for baby's and back for toddler. Means any can be carried at any point if needed. It's really supportive and I tried ds1 the other day who's 4 and he still fits if needed. ( great at airports etc when no pram). If you get on with it I would suggest two if with dh so you can carry babies and let eldest toddle if just going local

Ihateparties · 08/04/2014 13:45

Wiggy you can put a wedge in the select seat to flatten it for newborns (silver cross surf nest, mamas and papas sola city one, maxi cosi do one for the buzz too, there are quite a few) I have seen pics of the select with three seats on, I cannot for the life of me remember if you can have them on full recline, which you would need to. I think I can send someone who will be able to help you with the practicalities of it if I can find her....

Artandco · 08/04/2014 13:49

Yes I'm not sure with 3 seats on that x2 would recline

Ronmione · 08/04/2014 13:49

Is the city select designed for 3 children? As there's not much space between the seat to fit a baby

unintentionalthreadkiller · 08/04/2014 13:50

Have you joined TAMBA - there's a few ABC triples for sale on their at the moment.

I've never seen the city select with three seats. It's pretty heavy with just two so I'm not sure how that would work. Its also not that great for getting on a bus, sorry!

there not their!

Wiggy29 · 08/04/2014 14:03

I had looked at having both in bassinet but womAn at john lewis said they're pretty small and unlikely to hold two. Plus I probably won't leave the house much for first 6 weeks!
