To put DC in 6+ month pushchair when under 6 months?

Wiggy29 · 08/04/2014 13:20

I guess this is less a aibu and more I should/ are there real risks?

Thinking that surely lots of people do and their kids don't have massive spinal defects?

I would be doing it out if desperate need rather than just to be defiant! I am expecting twins and have dc2 will only be 18months when they arrive, I've seen that you can actually fit 3 seats on select but seats are for 6 months plus.

Would you risk it? If I don't I fear I may never leave the house Aline and though there are other options such as Abc adventure that take 3 little ones, we just don't have the £900+ it costs.

Lots of advice, thank you.

No, select not supposed to be for 3 but had heard it can be used and hoped if I were careful it would be okay? Those support cushions look great.

Will look at other pushchairs suggested tonight.

Haven't joined TAMBA but had planned to so will do that tonight.

Really not too enthusiastic about sling idea, for the squashed boobs as mentioned and also I have back injury from bad car crash a few years back so really can't take weight on shoulder for any length of time really.

Have you seen the triple trio tandem. It's american I honk but might be able to get here

Tbh though I would just not go far for 6 months.
Like you say 6 weeks your expecting to be at home. So eldest will be more like 20 months when your out and about.

Book main things at weekends with dh to help. In the week find a few things all within short walk or bus able. Ie a music class for eldest. Easy as he is entertained, babies can sit on lap and feed/ watch. Invite friends over to you rather than you to them. Within weeks eldest will be confident on board and can walk.

A triple on a bus really is a disaster. You will spend all day waiting for empty one.

Contact local home start. They might give you someone who will come in and help once a week of so. Then you can use that morning to take them all somewhere as will have help.

Most new soft structured slings the weight is on hips not shoulders

oscarwilde · 08/04/2014 14:20

My sister used this but didn't recommend it. It was very wide and heavy, and her 18 mo toddler was v exposed in bad weather. They got rid of it very quickly and just used a double and a single. I don't think she left the house by herself though. Sorry, that will be very depressing to hear.

I would plan to buy a good double buggy that is either suitable for newborns or as close as dammit with a wedge and a sheepskin. A stokke single pram comes with a wedge so it's not usual I think. Bank on your 18 month being in it most of the time (easier to control him getting on and off buses and getting anywhere fast) and look into a new sling and a raincoat that you can wear over a baby.

If you have a cheap and cheerful umbrella fold too, then when you have someone with you, you can all ride out together.

Get a double that you can use a buggy board with (though I agree that he is too young) and start him with a scooter.

I've got a baby jogger City mini gt and to be honest I really don't think you could fit two in the carrycot, it's quite skinny.

MiserableCowWhenUpTheDuff · 08/04/2014 20:21

Emmaljunga do prams with a toddler seat that sits on the too, that can recline I'm sure it would fit on the double, I had one when my boys were little and my 17 month old was fine in the toddle seat and took the occasional nap. I have an emmaljunga again and they really are good quality prams xx

Newborn babies really should be in a pushchair that goes flat.
What about a joovy caboose?

Or a buggy pod smorph? (Extra seat you can attach to standard pushchair) you might be able to pick up a cheap tandem and add the extra seat

I have an uppababy and although it would be no use as it doesn't have enough seats but they have an infant snug to convert the pram (normally 6m+) for newborns

Thank you for all your ideas. My plan (for now) is to try and get a cheap carrycot for select and to put them both in when born, that way they can lie flat and even if it only gets used a couple of time, I can sell it on.

By the time the twins don't fit (depending on birth weeks but thinking from advice about 6 weeks) I'll decide if I should go down the buggy board/ different pushchair/ sling route/ sear pads etc.

Thanks again for all your advice.

Also. I'd be tempted to look at a twin carrycot pram ie the mountain buggy. You could def fit Twins laying down and eldest sitting facing them in the middle of them for quiet a while.

We did this with the cameleon carrycot sometimes. Just take eldest shoes off

poocatcherchampion · 09/04/2014 13:22

I'm no help at all but the thought of two or even 3 in a carrycot is pretty much the most lovely thing I've heard for days. congrats and good luck op!

Artandco · 09/04/2014 14:30

Have a look at the valco zee two twin plus joey seat

ebwy · 09/04/2014 16:14

my double buggy barely got used , I had baby in sling and toddler in buggy a lot of the time (or baby in buggy and toddler walking on reins), now it's eldest on buggy board and 18 month old in buggy. No way would I consider putting youngest on buggy board!

So I'd get a suitable-from birth twin buggy, and a comfortable, easy to use sling/baby carrier.

the double version of our buggy is quite cheap

Wiggy29 · 09/04/2014 20:32

Thanks again guys.

Most reviews I've read on sidecar type third seat have been pretty negative.

At the moment, my plan is 2 babies in 1 city select bassinet and eldest on seat (for as long as I can get away with). Then, move on to two babies in select (each in own bassinet) and eldest (at about 20 months by then) on this...

www.hottots.co.uk/product/easy-x-rider/

That puts us around November time so I'm thinking it won't get fully used on a regular basis until eldest is 2.

It's not an ideal solution but seems the best so far.

I should have explained that I meant I won't be doing loads of trips out in winter (I imagine) so will be March before gets used for longer periods, by which time eldest will be 2 (well, eldest will be 9 but I mean eldest who'll need a pushchair)!

I choose to put my ds in the sitting part of his pushchair at 3 months, he was huge and really strong and he hated being on his back missing out on being nosy and looking at eveything that was happening

We have a bugaboo and the seat has a half reclined option, we used a sheepskin.

Ds sat unaided at 4 months so I really feel like he was ready but I wouldn't expect our next dc to go in the sitting seat until he/she is ready.

Ds will be 20 months when dc2 is born and our plan is for me to carry dc2 in a sling whilst pushing ds until dc2 is strong enough to sit in sitting up seat, then we will have a buggy board and sling and dc 1 and 2 will take it in turns to be in the pushchair or in the sling/buggy board/walking.
